Do they close the park entirely and empty everyone out beofre the event at night? If not why would you not go in for the day and just stay in? What time does it start at night? I can not figure out how they seperate these events? Thanks

They do herd people out around 5:00 or 6:00pm UNLESS you have a wristband which the cast members will put on when you show them your MNSSHP ticket. Even then you are told to wait in Tomorrowland unless you have dinner reservations somewhere.

Unless they have an annual pass, most people don't want to waste a day on a regular pass. So they wait until later in the day and use their party ticket to access the park.

They are amazingly very good at 'herding' out non-party ticket holders and letting party ticket holders stay.

They do this process between 6:00p and 7:00p! The park closes at 6:00p. Everyone without a ticket or wristband is led/directed out of the park. Everyone with a party ticket has a wristband and is either eating in a restaurant or herded to either Fantasyland or Tomorrowland until 7:00p. They will NOT let you ride any rides without a wristband.
