Why are they so expensive!!!! I would like to watch the halloween parade and trick-or-treat with my kids, but I don't see that it is worth $600+ for my family of 6. We will have plenty of opportunity to see the fireworks from our hotel if we want. They went up about $30 a ticket so for us that's $150-200 increase and we probably won't stay till midnight to ride the rides. They kind of screw you over during that first week of Oct (which is our fall break) as a week long vacationer since they have a party on Sunday/Tuesday/Thurs/Fri of that week, so magic kingdom is only open past 7pm for guests with normal park tickets on Monday/Wednesday/Saturday. In my mind I wanted to go to a party because it's another night at the best park, but it's too costly. I was planning on this as a part of our vacation but now I'm thinking not. I will already be paying north of $2000 for week long tickets, I don't know why they would want to gouge me again. Maybe sales will be poor and they will discount tickets.

Because people will pay it.

We are in the same boat - was hoping to get an extra day using the party. We arrive on October 30 so it would be $105 pp + tax for the 4 of us to go on Halloween. Just did the math and we could buy a 1-day ticket to MK for $117 INCLUDING TAX. How does that make any sense? o_O

Planning this trip has been a long road to Crazytown.

Just to keep things clear for those reading along...

If a guest wanted an "extra day" (for trips that already include fewer than 10 theme park days) the adding of another "day' to a multi-day ticket can be as inexpensive as $10-$15.

It's all about simple economics and basic supply and demand.

There is no other Walt Disney World, therefore they can charge above what the market demands.

Yes, but WE cannot add a day to our tickets because they are discounted through my husband's work. So for us, we would have to buy a full 1-day ticket...which apparently would be about the same price as a 5-hour party ticket! Madness.

I don't understand what your ticket discount restrictions have to do with the Halloween party prices?

Choosing to go on a peak day will mean paying peak Halloween party prices, I personally think it's fair. Go early, save a little $$, go later pay more. Kind of like air travel, you go a week before Christmas and it saves a little cash. You fly December 23 and you pay through the nose. That's just how business works.

P.s.- the ticket gets you in at 4, so it's an 8 hour ticket, which is what most people would spend at a day in the parks anyway.

Yep. We're looking at the 11/29 MVMCP. I can go for $191, or add another park day for $64. Or, I can add another day and upgrade to park hoppers for $198.

I just paid it. Grumbled a little but still paid. :D I love halloween, the theme, the parade and i'm excited to go. It will just be DD and I so it felt more affordable. If it were my whole family of 5, I would not pay the extra $400+, that is not worth it to me. We skipped the christmas party last year for the same reason.

Over the years we had chance to go to both parties once each, frankly in the future we would not bother, in fact would look to avoid party periods simply to avoid the shorter MK park hours for day tickets due to the hours taken over by the parties. For us the value of park tickets is amount of activities/attractions that can be done over the longest amount of park hours available - and the parties take away from that approach. More value with cost of multi-day park tickets when MK is open 9/8am until 10p or later. The added events and decorations at the parties are great and nice but hard to add to the value of the higher cost - and crowds impacting the experience.

First timers will typically always go. This will cut down on the repeat visitors who aren't head over heels in love with the parties. So...it could marginally reduce crowds at parties that didn't sell out or barely sold out before.

I don't think the price increase is going to deter people at all. People will pay the price, I did. Mind you I'm Sept 2nd so cheaper night, but if I were going in October, I would pay what they're asking. And I know I'm not alone because I tried to call in today to cancel another Pirates & Pals (putting that $ towards the Halloween Dessert Party) and the hold time was close to an hour and I'm sure that is with MNSSHP people either trying to get tickets or to sort out their lack of confirmation emails that seems to be a problem this morning.

I agree with previous posts about this being a pretty basic supply/demand exercise and IMO, the tiering in the price based on date is a direct result of supply/demand, they are likely not trying to decrease attendance, but they could be trying to even out the attendance. Only time will tell if/when we start to see sellouts.

What I would love to know and likely never will, is if they are selling fewer tickets per event this year than previous years (I'm assuming yes because of more dates and because of the % of price increase).
