MNSSHP - worth it?

Being my frugal self, I'm kind of having a hard time swallowing the $200 (for a family of 4) price for MNSSHP. My kids really want to go, and Halloween is DS7's favorite 'holiday' (which shouldn't come as a surprise, since he pretty much lived in costumes as clothing for almost 2 years).

Can anyone put my frugality at ease and tell me it's really worth the cost of admission?

DH and I have gone to MNSSHP every year for the last 6 years. We live in FL and are annual passholders and STILL buy the tickets every year to go. The parade and fireworks are different on party nights. There is something just so wonderful about trick or treating as an adult around Magic Kingdom :goodvibes and we get a kick of seeing people dressed up, adults included! Best of all the crowd level is way down on party nights so the lines are WAY shorter! For us it is worth it. I hope that helps!

We went a couple of years back with our 2 oldest boys and although the kids enjoyed it, I wasn't all that impressed. My kids dressed up as pirates which you could probably save your money and let them do any night of the week in the park anyway. The candy they gave out was horrible and the stations set up to give out the candy were few. I was expecting much more. For me it's a "been there done that" kind of thing...once is enough and although my 3 other kids haven't been I doubt I'll pay the money to take them. :confused3

We really enjoyed it, and we'd do it again. Sure the pricetag is a little rough, but I saved up for it in a separate account (OK, envelope) for it, so that made paying for it a little easier.

Heck Yeah it is worth it! The parade, the Villain Mix and Mingle Show, and the fireworks are fabulous! The whole environment of the park is completely different then normal. There are so many fun things to do...there are two different dance parties with the Characters. And free face painting. The lines are shorter for the rides...it a TON of fun. :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Who cares if the candy is crappy...you can buy candy ANYWHERE

You really need to go

We never did it until last year because we thought it would not be worth it. We were so wrong- WE LOVED IT!! We swam in the a.m. then showered and napped. The we got ready and went. We ate in our room and resort for breakfast and lunch. We got there at 4:30 and ate a counter service. Then we did the MNSSHP. Fabulous. My kids would rather do this than to do an entire day of MK. My kids were 5 & 7 at the time. This year we are eating at CRT at 4:20 for my birthday and doing MNSSHP. During the day we are having breakfast at Ohana w/ Lilo & Stitch, swimming, and napping. We are all looking forward to it.

We did the MNSSHP in 2008 and really enjoyed it. The parade was fun and the fireworks were FABULOUS. We thought there were many places to get candy and we got decent stuff. It was early Sept, so it was still quite warm and didn't really feel like Halloween, but it was fun to see all the kids dressed up and many adults too.

We did the MVMCP last year and really enjoyed that too. Again, the fireworks were fabulous and atmosphere tremendously fun.

I look forward to doing both parties again!

There's different batches of candy given out throughout the two months. There's like 4 different boxes, with one box being mostly chocolate and the others being more sugar based/hard candies. And some stations are more proned to getting certain mixes than others. But it's really not about the candy.

I love the parade, I think it is the greatest on they've come up with... Fireworks are cool, not my personal all time favorite, but they still do a good job. Love watching the villans show, although I will not even get near the mingle part...
Our night usually starts off with Character greetings in Toon Town, the prince will usually accompany thier princess, and the whole gang has special halloween outfits on. Pluto, Stitch and I think it's Chip n Dale are at the Cosmic Ray Dance Party. Susie and Perla (cindy's mice), and I can't think of the others are at the Dance Party next to ariel's grotto. Snow White comes out with the seven dwarfs between the dance party and pooh's playground. There's no signing, all the dwarves are lined up with Snow, and your family is set in the middle for a quick picture. You litterally have to get in line before they leave for a 1/2hr if you want a pic, it's crazy. Cindy's coach is set up next to Small World (old skyway ride area) with photopass there. Photopass also does special hitchhiking ghost pictures in front of the Haunted Mansion, and there's usually some creepy lady sitting in the garden to talk to the line. Tarzan and Jane are usually in Adventureland (at the old restaurant), and Capt Jack is next door. Genie and Abu come out by the carpets, alternating with Jasmine and Aladdin. Sometimes you'll see the country bears roaming frontierland, or the brer gang.

We usually pick our prime spot on main street (castle hub area) for the Fireworks, then Mix and Mingle, which is right before the second parade. First parade can get awfully crowded, as it happens shortly into the party night.

When we first started going to Disney as passholders, we opted for a special meal, like a character meal, instead of the party. Our first year working for Disney, we finally decided to go, and couldn't believe we skipped out on so much fun. Now it's a yearly thing.

I'd rather attend the halloween party than a christmas party.

we started going 3 or 4 years ago and i will be on the phone Thursday morning to buy my tickets for this year's party. Definitely 'worth it'.

I agree, you should try it once while your kids are young. (although it is not just for the young;)) We have been twice and really enjoyed it. The candy used to be a lot more chocolate, not so much lately. As stated, that is just a small part. We got a LOT of it, though. So much that I used some of it for handing out at home for trick or treating! The reduced crowds alone are worth it. We do what a PP does, hang out in the morning at the pool and head out to MSSHP at 4:00, when it opens.

Much better than MVMCP, IMO>

Our last trip in Oct was on a super tight budget ($1,500 for everything, including transportation) for a family of 4. I worked in MNSSHP as the only time we would be at MK. We had never done it before.

The kids LOVED it! I thought it was nice to do something a little different at MK than just the usual stuff. It was fun seeing all the characters in Halloween costumes. The downside was it poured rain the first half of the party.

Would I do it again? Yep!

Definitely worth the extra cost! We are thinking of doing the party twice this year. The crowd level is so low. For an example, we stood in line for Dumbo for an hour during a weekday and during the MNSSHP we walked right on. You'll get so much done during the Halloween party it will be worth the cost. But its neat to see the Magic Kingdom all decked out. The characters in costume are neat to see. The parade and fireworks are great.

Wow, thank you for all the enthusiastic responses! I do agree that there's something to be said for doing these things during that 'magic' timeframe before they get all jaded, lol. Mine are 7 and 9 and my 7 year-old seriously LOVES Halloween. I was planning on doing it no matter what, but now I am actually REALLY EXCITED about it! :thumbsup2 We will be going on the 29th, so maybe it will be a little more crowded because it's so close to Halloween, but I believe they cap attendance, correct? And do the majority of adults wear costumes? If so I will have to start thinking about ideas.

Guess I will be on the phone first thing Thursday morning. I am afraid that date so close to Halloween will be the first one to sell out!

We are going for the first time in October. It's actually going to save us a tiny bit of money as we won't be going to the parks that day-only the party and the ticket is less than park admission. We are only going to be there for 3 days-using our GAD pass on one, MNSSHP one evening and the 3rd day is up for grabs but probably another Disney Park-maybe we will check out HP at Universal...?

That's exactly what I've been doing too !! Every little bit of extra cash we've had, I've been tossing in the envelope for the tickets....we've never been but are looking forward to it !!

this is the same way we saved. we actually started a "change jar". Each friday when I went to the bank I got a roll of dimes or quarters to put in it. That way I wouldn't take it out and spend it. The girls at the bank thought we were crazy at first however now they totally understand why we do it.

My dd is now 20 and does NOT like Halloween at all..she is the typical 'yeah, i've seen it all' young adult (she lived in NYC for 2 years so she REALLY has the blase attitude) and she LOVES Disney. Parties and all. She still gets excited about it all.

So, time is on your side but why wait...2012 IS coming.:rotfl2::rotfl2:

We couldnt justify the cost. We already had paid for a days admission into the park, and didnt see the point for the extra perks of paying $200 (or whatever the actual cost was a few years ago for the 4 of us).

Besides, I dont think it starts until 7pm so depending on the age / tiredness level of your kids they may not want to stay more than a couple of hours.

What we did was....we had a late dinner resv at Liberty Tree Tavern and left there after 7pm. We got to see the decorations and such and took a few pics. We couldnt ride anything (but we had already ridden the same rides earlier in the day) and we can buy candy for a lot less than $200. So...we didnt see the parade or fireworks, but we saw the decorations and such and still kept our $200.
