MNSSHP-Tips, Tricks, Secrets newbies should know (from the 2009 party!)

I am packed and ready to go. I decided we would just wear last year's party shirts and light up ghost necklaces and glow bracelets. Just ran out of time to make special shirts like I did last year. We'll be there the 8th. Hope to see some of you there too.

I'm so excited! 2 hours til I go and pick up DD and tell her I'm taking back to Disney! :woohoo::woohoo:

Well, we attended the MNSSHP on 10/2 and it didn't exactly go as planned. Trip report here:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2303190

I do have a few pieces of information:
- Strollers are NOT free. The CMs looked at me like I was crazy.
- The easiest place to get the party-exclusive pins is at the jewelers on Main Street. They have a menu of the pins, and then just grab them from boxes for you. They may not have all of them (they were sold out of the Mickey vampire one that I hear you can still get other places), but it was a quick and easy place to start.
- If you are interested in the Mickey ghost trick or treat bag that was shown in the video a PP posted, it is very hard to find. The Mickey pumpkin one was everywhere, but the only place I saw the ghost one was at the toy store at Downtown Disney.

Hope everyone else has fun!

They had TONS of the Mickey ghost bags for $2.99, I think (or less) at the Character Premiere Outlet.

We are wearing our shirts from last year too and way too many light up thingy's. I swear my neck starts to hurt from blinking pumpkins, skeletons, ghosts etc.!

Here is my Dad w/the skeleton light from last year, that's what started killing my neck!

Where is the Character Premier Outlet??

At Orlando Premium Outlets on Vineland. Great place to pick up a few cheap souvenirs after buying $30 tshirts and $10 keychains. ;) I bought a picture frame for 39 cents and a shirt for $3.99!

Attended 10/6. Fun, Nice, HOT, unique, awesome FIREWORKS, recommend once but, I don't see myself doing this again. Sorry. :confused3 It's impossible to trick-or-treat, see, do, ride everything in one night and, I've got 4 bags of candy that we really don't want to take home. :guilty: It really was ALL the +'s tho! I just don't think I'd pay extra again for that. JMO

Given the record heat here , there was little chocolate given out - not that I care but, fyi, the chocolate that was given out melted, as previously mentioned. So.... why bother? :confused3

Despite my own personal opinion (please don't flame me), I wore a trick or treat button, Minnie Mouse Halloween witch hat ears with silly orange colored long hair thingies in my hair. DD wore a Camp Rock costume with crazy, rock-star hair, 21yoDS wore some Jack Skellington clothes (hey, that alone impressed me!) ;) and, DH wore a Disney tee with a trick or treat button - That was pretty good for Him too!

Again, I WOULD recommend it and, when people saw my DDs wrist band they asked how it was and we all spoke positive. I just don't think that next time we'll spend the extra money. Been there, done that - JMO.

We're leaving this afternoon. Weather is supposed to be a 40 year record high the next few days.
I'm having second thoughts about the party tomorrow night.
We've been there in August, melted, and it wasn't even 95 degrees. :lol
Oh well, I guess there's always Typhoon Lagoon or the resort pool.

OK, it took me a while to post this up, but we went to our first MNSSHP on the 15th September, and had a brilliant time :cool1:! I went dressed up in Mardis Gras get-up (I had my mask on a stick, rather than wearing it, to keep to the rules and to keep cool!), with my wheelchair covered in beads, lights and ribbons; the fella went as an explorer, in khaki shorts and shirt, with a pith helmet (yup, two 'adults' without kids, fully dressed up to the nines!) :goodvibes.

We ended up watching the parade twice, because we didn't have such a great view the first time, and I loved what I saw of it so much that I had to do it again! We lost track of time and suddenly realised it was due to start any minute, and we were miles from the nearest wheelchair viewing area (OK, not miles, but a fair distance, and the wrong side of the parade route). We just got as close as we could to the ropes, then some very kind people let me pull in front of them, so I could see.

We did the trick or treating from start to finish of the party, just ducking into any line we saw. Because we went so early in the party season, the lines were extremely short and quick moving, and we were quickly laden down! We didn't have the space in our luggage to take everything home (this is after we'd been snacking on them for a whole week, too!), so we handed them in at the front desk of our hotel. They were really greatful for it, and said that they hand out candy themselves, whenever there is a party at MK. As long as somebody got to enjoy it! :thumbsup2

For anyone not sure whether to go or not - it really is well worth the money and much more (though please don't put the price up, Disney, if you're reading this!!)! :thumbsup2

Just wanted to share this in case it helps anyone else. I ordered tickets to NSSHP in advance. We planned the day around this party, took a rest, and were dressed in costume (although was very hot in early October - Harry Potter robe was out!). I decided to make sure the tickets were actually for that day. To my dismay, they were for the next day!!! I went to the front desk at the hotel and they said, it shouldn't be aproblem, just go to MK and exchange. I was skeptical, but went anyway. They were more than happy to exchange the tickets. I had the impression before the party that tickets were absolutely final, no exhanges. This was not the case. Saved the day!:yay:

p.s. started in line for Snow White and the 7 dwarves (all were there) at 6:30, then a cast member did come at 7pm and tell us she was not coming out until 7:30pm which they did. It was a little frustrating. No photopass, no autographs, just a quick snap with our own camera.

did the party on 10/6 and had a blast as always except for one little part...

my group and i were dressed as famous disney characters (alice, wendy, cinderella and prince charming) and although our costumes were highly similar and accurate we did not look like th WDW character versions. we recieved a lot of warning and frankly bad attitude from a cast member informing us that we were not allowed to take pictures at all with any guests.

now, we know we're not the real thing. and we did explain to the people that we were just party guests and weren't real characters. but they didnt care and just liked our costumes. im sorry, but whats wrong with that? it says nothing in the rules about not being able to take a picture. we know we arent allowed to sign anything, and we didnt. but a picture? please...

this highly upset us and so we asked a manager that was on duty what we should say as to not dissapoint a child who actually thinks we ARE the real thing. and he simply said "oh, just say: sorry i cant." im sorry, that didnt seem very magical to me and perhaps would sound upsetting to a small child who thinks your alice and you wont take a picture with her.

we felt bad the entire night because we couldnt talk with anyone. we were afraid to even say hello to anyone looking at us as we walked by. of course, this did calm down at 7 once the party started so i have mixed feelings about going back next year at 4pm myself.

other than that: we had a blast. rode mostly everything we wanted to, candy was nothing too special (didnt get a lot of chocolate) and we got some adorable pictures that 'little mermaid' should be posting soon. :]

We're going tonight...can't wait! We'll leave in about 45 minutes to start our drive to WDW. It's going to be a mother/daughters weekend...

If you see us, say hi -- my 15 year old DD will be dressed in black and deep purple as a "funky witch" (lots of spider web tulle on that costume) and my 10 year old DD will be dressed as Minnie Mouse. I will be wearing shorts and a black t-shirt that says "Happy Halloween" in sparkly letters. It's just going to be too hot to wear my costume (50s girl pink felt poodle skirt with petticoats -- way too hot!).

I have really appreciated this thread as I've been planning for our first every MNSSHP -- thanks to all!!

I am about to leave in an hour for our first Halloween Party! DD 10 will be dressed as Minnie while DS and I are wearing custom pirate Mickey head tshirts. I am sooo excited! Thanks for the helpful hints on here. :goodvibes

I read about a dozen pages of the thread and can't find an answer to this question. Hope someone can help. :goodvibes

How are they handling crowd control this year for MNSSHP attendees before 7pm? Do they route everyone into one land while the rest of the park is cleared-out?

We are attending one of the parties and want to meet-up with some folks around 6pm who are NOT planning to attend. Is there a good spot in the MK where we can meet and chat for 15-20 minutes--before 6:30pm--without being shooed-away by CMs trying to clear the park?

Thanks!

They totally don't route anyone into certain places at all. They don't start shooing people not staying for the party out until 7pm when the park officially closes for non-party guests. You could meet up anywhere you want!! Have a wonderful time!!

We have been there 06 and 07 as "non MNSSHP" and were on the back side of MK as they made the announcement the park was closing. We were able to hope a few rides (Pirates, Aladdin, Jungle Cruise) right at 6:45ish then slowly walked out and admired the decorations and costumes. We didn't try to participate in any of the activities - no one said anything and it was at least 30 - 45 minutes before we got to the exit. We probably could have wandered around longer as long as we weren't trying to participate in the activities.

Leaving to drive halfway in 3 hours !!! Will be at MNSSHP on Thursday night - thanks to all that posted. I have read every message since the thread began in preparation - this will be our first party even though we have been several times during Oct before.:banana:
