Hi guys!

I am wondering if you could help me. This is the first time we've ever done the MNSSHP. Currently we are scheduled to fly in on the 16th (off site, rental home), meet family who are flying in from Canada, have Thursday the 17th as a grocery/pool/relax day. My original plan was to do the MNSSHP on the night of the 18th.

Is it a good idea to start with the halloween party?

Would it be better to chose one of the later dates (20th/22nd)? It might be nice to have the bulk of MK behind us and fully enjoy the party, instead of trying to cram a lot in?

Here are our dates and tentitive plans:

16th- Fly in
17th (Thurs)- DaySettle in- DTD
18th (Fri)- Day at home (naps!) MNSSHP (?)
19th (Sat)- Epcot/ Akershus @ 11am
20th (Sun)- Chef Mickey's @ 10am (Hollywood Studios?)
21st (Mon)- Rest/Shopping (Disney outlet stores?)/International Drive- Mini Golf?
22nd (Tues)- AK or 2nd day short day at MK (early day- rope drop?)
23rd (Wed)- Crayola Experience & American Girl Store/PM- Old Towne Cruise (Mom & Dad)
24th (Thurs)- MK- Stay for Wishes.
25th (Fri)- Day @ Rental/packing
26th (Sat)- Fly back to PDX

Is blowing off AK worth a 2nd full(ish) day at MK worth it?

Since it look like you are from here in Oregon or Washington I would recommend the beginning of your trip. You have fairly young children and if you want to stay until the end of the party it would only feel like 9pm to their natural clocks versus if you have the party later in the trip. They could have already changed over to eastern time and be ready for bed earlier. I have always taken my children at the beginning of the trip to MNSSHP. If fact this year I am taking my 11 year old nephew who has never been on our first full day in Florida.

Brilliant. You are absolutely brilliant. And you are correct. We are in Vancouver WA. This is a great idea. Thank you! That's why I come to the experts!

We have our MNSSHP planned for the 18th but thats the night before our last day there. I could have done a potential less crowded party night on the Tuesday before but I wanted to end with party. I wanted to do all our MK days first so we don't feel like we have to go on all the rides during the party, this way we can focus on the party-only incentives like the parades and dance parties etc. But I would pick a night where you can sleep in the next day.

We are there Oct 10th - 19th. You look like you're there in September.

We're doing the Tuesday party, toward the beginning of the trip. I figure it will likely be LESS crowded, given Monday is Columbus day AND the Friday night parties tend to be busier, of the options available. We were left with Tuesday or Thursday...and we took Tuesday.

With our kids..it's a late night...and I'd rather they have some "recovery time" (we're doing the WS half of Epcot the next day) before we do anything else or have to travel. It makes things a little smoother for us. ;)

I think, given your point of origin, time zone differences, and the general structure of your schedule......going when you are looks PERFECT. :)

I would do it early in the trip.....because of weather.
We went one year when it rained nonstop and everything was cancelled.....no parade, no fireworks, no stage shows, so they gave people a day pass. The AP holders were out of luck......but the people that still had time in their trips got a new ticket for a later date.
We did that and it worked out great.

This is a GREAT point.

The party is "rain or shine", but..having said that...if the weather is absolutely terrible (we were there a couple years ago where there was a party with CRAZY rain and wind...which luckily we were not scheduled to attend), and they have to cancel all the "extras", they usually WILL let you swap your ticket for another party (that's not currently sold out).

Ok these are great thoughts.

Gosh I thought September weather would be perfect. Guh I hope we don't get rain and storms!

Sept and Oct, generally, are VERY good weather (though, technically, it IS still Hurricane season). And the times we've run into weather like what I described.....I can count on TWO fingers...and we go down frequently during Sept/mid-Oct.

But...it happens. The weather gods do occasionally do decide they need to unleash interesting "stuff" on WDW. ;)

Yes! ITA with this post! We did MVMCP on our last day of our December trip, and it was too much. We'd been there for 6 days, and everyone was kind of over Magic Kingdom and tired. So this year we fly in on a Saturday, no parks on arrival day, and we are doing MNSSHP on Sunday, our full first day at WDW. We may head over to MK in the morning and knock out a few of DD's favorite rides, but we are staying on the monorail so it's easy. We plan to eat lunch and take an early nap back at the hotel before the party.
