MNSSHP parade-why did they water it down?

Those of you who asked what the old parade was like. I don't have any videos, just great memories. The old theme song had a real great "umpa-umpa-umpa" beat with an eerie horn melody. This year's song took some of the beat but made it more "fun", like it could be on Sesame Street. The old parade was more Disney villian themed, there was one float with the monster from Fantasia, where "Night on Bald Mountain" plays. Really good. Then a float with the villians singing how this is their night. Old parade had the Haunted Mansion with the undertakers, Mickey and friends only show up at the end, with a barn dance theme. Not too scary, but not cutsie either. Hope that helps.

FYI...post #10 in this thread has a link to video of last year's parade.

Hmmm I dont have anything to compare it to. This was our first MNSSHP. I did think the paparde was amazing up until the HM floats passed. Then i was like... uhhhhh cowboys? A chicken? An entire float to a chicken? What am I missing. :rotfl2: However, we have been home for 3 days now... and im still booping to that darn melody. "de del delde de.... booo to you!...ahhhhh!"

We loved the "Boo To You!" parade!!. That music really does stick with you, I totally agree! We have been singing it all week. I just wish my photos would have come out a little better, but that's another story...

I have to admit I did wonder about the chicken float too... Otherwise, I just thought the whole parade was darling. It was our first visit to this party and to see the parade, so I have nothing to compare it to also. I really wish we could have seen it a second time, but there's always next year!

This was our first MNSSHP and after reading the DIS we were very excited about going. However..we left there wondering what all the hoopla was about? :confused3 The parade was ok, but quite honestly, DH and I have no interest in returning for MNSSHP, and DD9 hasn't said too much about it. I think it was just a let down for her. The crowd was huge and it was hard to manuever around. The rides had about a 10 minute wait and the candy lines were pretty long. DD decided it wasn't worth waiting in the lines. There wasn't as much theming as we expected. So for a first experience, it may well be our last.

Please not anymore of that song. :) Way too repetitive, and I'll have it stuck in my head.... oops too late. thanks a lot :)

We went this year and two years ago and I much preferred the one from two years ago. This one was toned down a bit, although the Villain meet and greet was pretty cool, and guess what.. there were TONS of kids there to see The Queen of Hearts, Jafar, Captain Hook, Maleficent, and the others. These are the villains of Disney, it’s not as if they are putting Jason, Mike Myers, Freddy Kruger and Hannibal Lecter on a float or having them randomly walking the streets. (They are from Friday the 13th, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street and Silence of the Lambs & Hannibal for those that don’t watch horror movies). But no, these are creations of Disney. And Halloween is about getting a little spooked. If zombie Goofy were to appear in the Christmas parade, ok I can see an issue with that. Halloween is the one holiday that you can have fun and not need to be bubbly. My question is where will it end? Why not implode Haunted Mansion and Tower of terror while we’re at it, (after all they might scare a kid) and have the next Halloween parade in pinks and yellows with all the lights turned on full blast so it’s not spooky at all.

Don’t get me wrong. I had a great time at this last Halloween party and I do think that Disney does a fantastic job. I blame the uber-sensitive parents that insist on the ‘spooks’ toned down and the party more upbeat because someone might get scared. Kids can be scared by anything. One of the funniest things I’ve seen was a video I saw on AFV of a kid that was terrified of Eeyore. Of EEYORE!! as soon as Eeyore turned to wave at this kid he let out a blood curdling scream with the hands shaking. The parents were trying hard not to laugh while comforting their kid. You felt bad for the kid, but I doubt highly if he was emotionally scarred for life. But that is my point, kids get freaked out by random things sometimes. But way overprotective parents well… unfortunately they are the squeakiest wheel.

Just my thought.

LOL ME TOO! We bought a new camera ($500.00) and all the parade shots didnt come out. And none of the night shots did either. I am so annoyed my old camera was soooo much better. Im going to have to research a high MP camera, thats small and slim, that takes good night shots.. or am i dreaming. Hey im anybody knows one PM me. Mine is the Fugi Finepix.

I was using a new Kodak Z740, and I think my older Kodak (DX4530 was better, IMHO). I tried every setting, adjusted and readjusted, and I just didn't come home with good photos. Maybe I'm actually the problem..

we use a Canon G2 it's about 4 years old and still take pretty good shots. you have to take a couple of test shots but they come out pretty good.

ITA about the new parade OP!! I thought the new one was not as good as the previous one!!

Not sure the reasons why it was changed but we prefer the old song and some of the old, missinng floats. I missed Cruella and her dogs float. :( and we missed the old hags' float where she's making the potion. I also missed Hadies from Hercules' float with Megara on the back. I also missed the music although some of it was in the villian show. I also wasn't crazy about the Goofy candy advertizing! At least they kept the Haunted Mansion float and the grave diggers!!

What a bummer. Thankfully, I have the old parade on videotape so I can see it again, whenever I want to. I just wish they put the old music on CD before they changed it. :(

Here's last year's parade if you want to compare. It wasn't very scary at all; just different, and IMHO a little better.

Thanks for posting the link of last year's parade. This year was the first time we attended the party, and we really enjoyed the parade. After watching the video, there were definitely some elements that would have been nice to have included in this year's parade (for instance, the "Grim Grinning Ghosts" music during the HM segment).

We found that it was tough to get bright enough pictures as well. We saw the parade twice and the second time, we put ourselves under better lighting. In Frontierland, it was particularly dark in certain areas. I wonder if they might ever feature the parade during the daytime...perhaps on Halloween. They do that with their Christmas parade.

I can see that they toned down some of the scarier parts, but this year, some kids in front of us were scared when the villains would suddenly turn to the parade watchers out of the blue.

I hope in future years that they keep this year's song; our family found it to be quite catchy, and I hope they keep the hoedown segment again as well...so nice to see such rare characters as Clarabelle, Horace, & Clara Cluck.

Thanks for the link - I enjoyed seeing the Headless Horseman again and I'm going to show your tape to everyone I've been describing it to...you really got some great shots.

We too went for the first time this year and had a great time. My 4 yr old son was a little scared by the gravediggers who danced with their shovels (they came within a few inches of him and I think the noise got him), but I thought they were cool. Maybe they should have a toned down parade at 8:00 and then a little scarier one at 10:00, just to appeal to everyone? The song from this year's parade was pretty catchy, IMO.

BTW - I thought I read that a witch flew overhead before the Hallowishes fireworks...we were right under Tinkerbell's usual flight plan at 9:00 until the end of the fireworks and never saw anyone fly by. Did they stop that?

Unfortunately, they got rid of the witch too. :( We caught her for the last time last year.

Oh that song, I need to hear that song. We went on the 16th and have been singing & humming it ever since. Someone had posted on another board that they wanted to buy the song & Disney said it's not for sale on any cd's and at the time I was thinking, how good can it be, but I would love, love, love to hear it again. I hope they play it at next years parade. As for the parade, this was our first year also, but we liked it. I especially liked the headless horseman and when the gravediggers did the shovel thing with the sparks. That was pretty cool!

:wave2: You are very welcome...I thought it would be good to share it with those who've only seen this year's so they can compare them!!

Although I liked a couple of things from this year (the new song), I loved last year's and years gone by much more.

thank you for sharing that video HOW COOL was that!~~~

we did not get to MNSSHP this year but I loved watching your video!! We did not take video this year either but have lots of pics, next year video camera and MNSSHP!!!

THANKS again

don't know about the parade but Hallowishes was AWESOME!!!

I was disappointed in the headless horsemen.. I like when he came from Mainstreet down the bridge, this year it was the same..

But I really enjoyed MNSSHP this year. I thought it was better organzied in general.

How...How.... HOW... Could they get rid of the witch!!!!!!!!!!

Beatyfamily - THANKS so much for the video, the only thing that could have been better is of I could have watched it every day last week before Halloween. I have actually been "homesick" (or should I say Disney Sick) because we couldn't get to Disney this Fall. You helped make it better - and I can't wait to show it to the kids after school.

Thanks again!
