MNSSHP parade scary?

We are planning to do the party because I think our DDs (8 and 5) will love the trick or treating, characters and dance parties. I've heard the parade is great but after watching some videos, I think my girls may be scared of some of the characters. We are not big scary stuff people, so they don't care for anything "spooky" as they say. I know they would like to see some of the parade but I don't want them to be scared early and then miserable the whole rest of the time. Normally, I would just pull up youtube and let them decide, but we are surprising them with this trip (telling them about 2 weeks out) and I'll need to buy the tickets well in advance of that. Any advice would be welcomed...

I don't think the parade is scary. Mine were 3 & 1 years old the first time we went, and we have attended a few different times since then. It's pretty fun. My kids love to get right up front & put their trick or treat bags out for CM's to walk by and load their bags up with even more candy! Oh the candy! You will get so much candy! The parade is fun. I recommend watching it.

It's not bad and in person is more fun than scary...My niece and Nephew (who are 4 and 2) loved it...my own kids (6,7, and 9 at the time) enjoyed it as well.

It's not scary. My kids loved it. There were 9 and 5 and had a blast. When the grave diggers come by the drag their shovels on the ground, so it's a bit loud, but nothing else bothered them at all.

You can watch it on YouTube to judge it before buying tickets.

I'm in the not scary camp.

I have watched the parade many times and while I don't have any kids, I have never seen any kid frightened of any of the characters. The only two places where it might be an issue is the headless horseman 15 minutes before the parade starts and the Haunted Mansion float with the grave diggers. For the headless horse man, I would maybe distract them as he goes by if you think it's going to be a concern and for the Haunted Mansion float you could remind them that Mickey wouldn't let anyone hurt them and that the grave diggers are nice and just having fun with the shovels.

I have also watched the videos of the parade online and I thought that it looks darker outside than it actually is and so the floats look creepier than they actually are. It felt that is was pretty light in the areas that I've watched it (Frontierland and Liberty Square) and you could also help that by going to a very well lit area to begin with.

Is there anyway to have your kids watch the video by saying that you are just watching for fun or to get ideas for Halloween costumes this year because you need to plan ahead? Or you can say that you are going to have a Disney evening and watch all the parades and maybe fireworks shows just to throw them off track.

In the end, they are your children and you know them best, if you think that they'll be scared maybe MNSSHP isn't right for you, especially at the price of the extra ticket. Or you just trick or treat and either be on a ride during the parades or leave early.

I don't think they will find it scary. We took a 2 and 7 year old and they both loved it. Only thing they might find 'scary' is the horseman.. Where's his head?! And they do this thing with shovels, so it can be a little loud when they tap them on the ground but other then that, at their age, they should be fine.

The grave diggers and the villain from Princess and the frog are the only things that concern me. How dark it is outside is also a concern so I'm glad someone mentioned it may not be as dark in the videos. I know we'll mainly be getting autographs and candy. Another question, my oldest hates chocolate, so Halloween can be rough for her. Is most or some of the candy non-chocolate? I would think chocolate wouldn't work in the heat. I think we'll enjoy it and if needed can avoid the parade.

My nephews were 3 & 1 when they saw this and it didn't seem to bother them. My nephew who is now 6 will look at the pictures from time to time and the grave diggers and villians do seem to get more questions now. So I don't know if he saw it now if it would bother him or not.

From what I remember, it wasn't all chocolate that they received in the park. I think it was a mix of chocolate and things like starburst, etc.

I think overall the party is really great for the kids! My nephews had a blast, and still talk about dancing with Woody and Jessie at the party.

It's Disney so it is designed to be family friendly and enjoyed by all. That being said, it is pretty impossible for anyone here to say what will or won't scare your children.

If they scare easy, there is a chance something might spook them in the parade.

Not scary..My daughtr was 4 yrs old her first time and loved it.Not scared at all..The Fireworks on the otherhand , scared the crap out of her ...LOL

DD (just turned 8) scares pretty easily with anything "creepy" and she loved the MNSSHP parade. I had showed it to her online previously and she didn't like it claiming it looked creepy, so I was concerned, but I figured we could always get up and leave if it scared her. When it was live, she loved every minute of it. DH and I did too. We are not generally Halloween fans, but we loved everything about the MNSSHP party. I never thought I would say I liked it more then MVMCP, but it really was more fun. We loved seeing all the guests costumes!

My 6 year old is a huge wuss Even the POTC ride terrifies him. I was nervous about the party, because I was afraid he would be scared. But he loved it! He did not get scared at all!

My kids were 6 and 8 at their first MNSSHP. It was not scary at all. I think the thing that makes it not scary is the music. It is so fun and upbeat that it really sets a vibe for the parade.

As someone mentioned, the "scariest" thing is the gravediggers around the Haunted Mansion float, and honestly the thing that bothered my kid the most wasn't the actual gravediggers, but the routine they do with their shovels--it's really, really painfully loud.
