MNSSHP - help a Brit thread

It seems like Halloween is celebrated a lot more in the US than in the UK (though that seems to be changing gradually). I have booked MNSSHP tickets for my trip in October (when in Rome, do as the Romans do).

Can any of you kind folks tell me what to expect and look out for at the MNHSSP? Do we need to wear costumes or behave in a particular way (my teenage son would have no trouble acting like a zombie)?

Or should I just ignore what's going on and make the most of shorter lines whilst everyone else is doing their Halloween thing?

How old are your kids? Would your teenager want to dress up? Are you into that type of thing? If so, YES dress up! Halloween is a fun place at Disney. Like you said...when in Rome...Clean adult humor is always appreciated when dressing up too

Take advantage of the whole experience. We have a son who is 10 and he will be dressing up. We have gone to the party twice before. DH and I purchase the t-shirts for sale that night and wear them.

Of course they hand out candy at certain spots. Consult a guide map that you pick up as you enter the party. Definately see the parade the headless horseman is a must see. He starts the parade. They also have interactive stuff for the kids and adults to participate in. It is all family friendly.

I assume the headless horseman thing is something to do with The Legend of Sleepy Hollow?

Any idea why Halloween is such a big deal in the States? It's very low key in the UK, though it is getting more popular. 'Trick or Treat' seems to be replacing 'Penny for the Guy' (a replica Guy Fawkes, who was one of the Gunpowder Plot gang) as the things kids do around this time of year.

Sorry I forgot to answer this in my last post. I've got a DS15 and a DD13. They may consider dressing up I guess. We've done fancy dress parties, but dressing up for a Halloween is a novelty for Brits.

Not sure what you mean by clean adult humour when dressing up. I'm not sure what the Halloween dressing up in-jokes may be. Do you dress up as ghosts / ghouls / monstors etc, or anything at all?

I could reprise my ventriloquist dummy fancy dress. It may be appropriate. However, the man at the bar wasn't amused when I asked for a 'gottle of geer'.

CANDY!!!!! I think we also may have a touch of the pagan in us. Who knows? We absolutely love Halloween - trick or treating, decorating the house super scary - it's just so much fun!!

We're going this year (DD5 and I will be dressed up - not sure about DH yet!) and have been in the past. The last time we were there, DH and I wore "normal" clothes and DD was dressed up (she was 1 y.o. at the time).

Trick or Treating is great - even adults get to do it at WDW!

Thanks for the links. Hmm...very different to the usual MK fayre. Should be interesting.

Crowds sound a little worrying though - especally if they don't keep to a ticket-holders only policy as suggested elsewhere.
