We will be at our first MNSSHP Sept 29, and have put alot of effort (and money) into our costumes, my daughter and myself as Belle, my son as Beast, my mom as Mrs Potts. I've been reading the boards about people getting turned away if their costumes look too "authentic". We bought our costumes at the Disney store, and they are high quality, and now I'm worried we will not be able to wear them. Has anyone got any experience with this? Please tell me we didn't waste all that money on something we can't use. :confused3 thanks!!

I think the "authentic" thing applies more to costumes that literally look like you took them off a castmember and wore them. It also applies to costumes that look too authentic in that they are gruesome and may scare some children. I don't think you'll have any issues :) More people will probably be along soon to help give more advice.

tiggerstail...don't worry you'll be fine in costumes from TDS!! :thumbsup2

Here's Disneys "official " guidlines for costumes at MNSSHP:

They should not interfere with their ability to board and unboard attractions and WDW transportation system.

Do not drag on the ground.

Do not contain sharp or pointed objects or material that may accidentally strike another guest.

Be offensive to other guest.

Should not contain any weapon(s) which resemble or could easily be mistaken for an actual weapon.

About the last one....when Erich was the pirate he had a flexible rubber pirate knife with a skull on the end. When the boys were Ninja Turtle's one had plastic swords strapped to his back and the other the little plastic daggers in his belt.Last year as Puss N Boots he carried a sword. We had NO PROBLEMS at any time with these props.

Make sure your child's costume is COMFORTABLE and EASY to get around in. You'll be getting on and off rides and do not want anything that is cumbersome.

I also suggest something in a light weight fabric. Those of us that are accustom to Halloweens up North are use to Trick or Treating in something warm.I grew up in Indiana and it was always cold and/or raining when I was a Trick or Treater! The costumes that are sold through the Disney catalog, like Tigger or Pooh, the jump suit FUR type ones, those are really TOO HEAVY for a Halloween in Florida! The most we've ever needed at MNSSHP is a light jacket or sweatshirt.I make my boys costumes.

If your little girl is going to be a Princess or something quite lovely... I know she looks adorable in those glass slippers but bring sneakers or some other comfortable shoe for her to wear.I've seen little ones dragging around crying about their feet hurting because they're in those plastic dress up shoes which are killing them!

Well, ask yourself these questions: Do you look like Belle? Do you have her hair color, are you about the same weight, etc? If so, it may be a problem. I have read posts on here about people getting turned away because they were adults dressed as princesses.

A big concern here is the heat-those seem to be very hot costumes to enjoy yourself in. We have dressed up the latter part of October the past few years and it is VERY warm and humid.

During our visit to MNSSHP one year, there were several people that were dressed as Disney characters that looked pretty close to the real thing. They were ususally with other people though so you could tell it was a group thing rather than a Disney thing.
