Hi there! call me an early planner but I have started thinking about putting together our cotumes for 2006. i have never been before so don't really know what to expect but I want to dress up as well as the kids. There will not be one coordinated theme as the kids have very different personalities and favourites. My question is,

When I search for costumes online, a lot of them seem quite revealing, or have short skirts to them. I certainly wouldn't be dressing as a sexy nurse or anything, but what are the guidelines for costumes? How short is short enough? Could you show middle skin if you were jasmine or a belly dancer? Can a pirate wench have a short skirt? Just wondered what your views were on this so i know what NOT to look for ( would not want to feel out of place or embarrased)

many thanks on this matter,
Claire xx

we went last year and saw everything..just keep this thought..you are at disneyworld..there are alot of families and children around..just use good judgement...

We went this past year on Halloween night. We went to the disney store at our local mall and let the kids pick out whatever costume they wanted. Our 2 younger (9 and 7) picked out Jasmine and Tinkerbell. Our oldest dd (15) wanted to be a pirate so we took her to a costume store and let her put together an outfit.

i'm going through the same thing.i want to look cute but not to old lady like.so i had to consider that i will be doing alot of bending over with the kids.but princess jasmine has her belly showing(i mean the impersonater that is jasmine.)

Nothing scary, no masks, no weapons (toy guns, etc), and nothing that would interfere with the operation of a ride.

I think a bare mid-drift would be OK as long as it is in good taste (there are several varying degrees of a bare mid-drift) but a Jasmine/Jeannie costume should be OK.

I agree with the earlier post to use common sense as you will be around alot of young kids.

Have fun with it!

I was glad to see this post because I am planning my 2006 trip to MNSSHP right now!

Does anyone remember when those tickets (MNSSHP) usually go on sale? My memory is just about fried! I am thinking Summer time but want to be sure.

Hope to see you at the party!! :wave2:

Another early planner here. Having told our DDs about our Halloween trip on Christmas Day, we are now into planning mode. I am also waiting for the tickets to go on sale - if I remember rightly, it was about April this year. I actually don't think DH will want to dress up but me and DDs will be up for it. I am also struggling to come up with ideas so I'm glad someone else is already thinking about it.

I certainly won't be showing any bare flesh (there's plenty of it so will need something tent-sized to cover up ;) ) If anyone has suggestions for 2 teenage girls, they would be gratefully received. I did suggest I went as Cinderella and them as the ugly sisters but, for some reason, they weren't amenable to the idea :rotfl2:

We went to 2 MNSSHPs this past Oct in the first week - just want to remind everyone to keep in mind that it was HOT! that week - into the 90s in the day and the evening didn't cool off much - muggy and sticky. A whole family got onto our bus in full Incredibles costumes - very cute!, but we couldn't imagine how they were going to get through the night in those costumes - the mom said she never thought it would be so hot in Oct. DGrD (2) wore a short sleeved Tink costume and we took along a shirt and a little cape for her, but she never needed either (we did use our ponchos on the 2nd night as it rained early in the night). I made the 'big' kids halloween t shirts from the wonderful designs being shared right here on the DIS - they loved wearing them and were very comfortable! MNSSHP was sooooo much fun - the little ones still beg to watch the Boo To You Parade tape several times a week - we're trying to figure out how to get back for another Halloween ! :wizard:

I've included a couple pictures (with any luck in figuring out how to do it)... I would say that half of the adults wear costumes (including simple hats, shirts, etc). The unknown "royal family" was simply outstanding!

As far as it being hot... Most likely it will be, but Wilma saw to it that it was quite cool for us.

I'm another early planner :) I think I read that the MNSSHP tickets go on sale around May 1st. I'd love to wear a costume, but I'm traveling with my DD, who will be 14 next October, and she gets embarrassed by just about anything I wear  I suppose I could do a t-shirt with a halloween design that reads " Not wearing a costume so I don't embarrass my teen "

I'm an embarrassment to my DD now, too, she'll be 12 next year so I probably won't wear anything crazy.

But has anyone seen the Mad Hatter "rave" hats in the resort shops lately?
I wanted to buy one a few years ago but forced myself not to (where would I wear it?) Now I know where it can wear it...MNSSHP!

Few comments...

As long as you are wearing more clothes than Ariel, I think you are fine...

If you have a 14-year old daughter, your mere existense is going to embarass her, so go ahead and wear what you want...

Although it can be HOT, it can also be cold. Be prepated in case it is in the 40's the night you go.

My DH and I made our costumes this year....DH was Steve the Crocodile Hunter and I was Love-A-Lot Carebear! It was very hot and we were really glad we did shorts!!! The Castmembers all commented on my Carebear and most of them even knew which one I was!!! You will see all types of costumes at MNSSHP and yes, lots of adults dress up! We didn't have kids and still did all the trick or treating and the rides were walk ons late in the evening!

Do most adult attendees of MNSSHP wear costumes?

This past year was our first MNSSHP and we did see a lot of adults dressed up. However there were just as many that did not dress up. My wife and I were going to get a MNSSHP t-shirt and change into it, but with the kids getting in all the candy lines and all of us getting in line to ride, we never changed. The atmosphere was such that you could dress up or not and be comfortable either way. I also remember that the online disney store had alot of adult costumes as well. The Incredibles and The Nightmare before Christmas costumes were popular with adults this past year. Also saw several Star Wars costumes for adults.

DS tower of terror bellhop was a hit see pic below. DD was jasmine, DH and myself had headbands of princess Fiona and Donkey from shrek. We had alot of comments ie hahaha you guys are in the wrong park!

DD, 14, her best friend, best friend's mother and I had a wonderful late October trip this fall. We went to three MNSSHPs including Halloween night. It was not as hot as I expected. In fact, we ended up wearing sweaters at night. We all dressed up every night. First night we all went as a pj party in Old Navy pjs. Looked pretty nice - all cor-ordinated nicely. The second night DD was a Pink Lady from Grease, BF's mother was a poodle girl, BF was a Swan Lake Barbie (she really does look like a dark haired Barbie doll) and I was a Genie from a bottle - without exposing my middle - no use scaring small children and large adults. For Halloween night DD was a beautiful vampire, BF was Tinkerbell, BF's mother was a witch and I was a saloon girl.
All in all we had a ball and plan to make this an annual event if the Disney Fund holds out.

We went this past year and saw many different things. I would say to use your best judgement. If you would feel comfortable wearing the costume to church, then it's probably okay. :rotfl: If not, you might want to rethink - lol! :confused3

It's a mixed bag. I didn't see as many adults as kids dressed but there were many.

We will be going to MNSSHP for the first time this year. I have read in the past some nights sell out very early. Halloween falls on a Tuesday this year, does anyone know if this would be a good night to go?
