MNSSHP - Adult Costume Question

I've never been to any of the hard ticketed MK events, so I'm not sure how this works. I know a lot of adults dress up for Not-So-Scary and that there are some rules about not wearing Disney character costumes.

My DGF and I will be wearing Final Fantasy character costumes (Tifa and Cloud from Final Fantasy VII) for Halloween and ComicCon this year, so I thought it would be cool to try them out at MNSSHP first (without the fake weapons, of course). Since both characters are represented in Kingdom Hearts (in a very small way), do you think this will be any problem?

No.

I found this on a search of MNSSHP images; try to guess which one is the Disney Princess!

I am curious about the "don't take photos with other guests" part. I was actually looking forward to seeing some of the great guest costumes a lot more than I was seeing Donald wearing a pumpkin, and I'd like to take pictures of some of them; maybe even pose with some people whose costumes might be similar to mine if I wear one. I find it hard to believe Disney would object to guests taking pictures with each other if they aren't pretending to be cast members. If so I don't see how this is any different from any other day, when kids can walk around the park dressed as princesses but a guy who looks like Santa Claus has to leave.

The real Rapunzel is on the right- the wig gives it away :)

I think Disney's intention is not to prohibit guests from taking pictures from each other, but from doing such in a way that would enable/encourage folks to queue up with them. I took pics with several guests, and it was just like any other family/friends stopping to take pictures.

As far as taking pictures with guests, my DH my DStepson (20 at the time) and I dress up as Woody, Jessie and Buzz a few years ago. Lots of people wanted their picture taken us and no one stopped us. It was mostly people with little kids dressed in the same costumes.

Dress up and have a great time.

Linda

If it's a quick picture, it's not that big of a problem. Like a PP said, it's just to avoid queues. It's bad for Disney if kids think you are the real deal and then the details aren't perfect, or you don't have that Disney charm/aren't in character. I've seen amazing costumes at the one in Disneyland. There was a Bert/Mary Poppins and three penguin children in particular that were getting a lot of attention and taking pictures with people, but I saw them the whole night. Even the cast members loved it. Pooh's escort was pointing them out to Pooh.

I think as long as it's a picture here or there CMs don't mind it. I know a few people wanted pics with my son, "Frozone", when we went several years ago, and we didn't have any issues with it.

The ones that would be a problem are adults in highly accurate costumes of characters found in the park, such as the Rapunzel posted. As long as she doesn't present herself as the real deal/a CM, it'd be fine. So if you have an amazing costume, don't let yourself gather a crowd. Politely tell them you have to get to your next ride/trail if you get too many people in a row in the same spot asking for pictures, and also if you see someone else gathering a crowd/line, refrain from taking a picture with them at that moment, so they don't get in trouble.

I concur that the rule is not so much to prevent folks from taking pictures with each other as it is to prevent people from pretending they are CMs.

For costumes, plenty of adults dress up. Disney doesn't really publish a set of rules (I wish they did because it would it easier for folks to know if they can wear something or not; DLR publishes rules on their tickets!), but mostly it's common sense. No fake weapons (or real weapons for that matter) and nothing that violates the normal dress code (e.g., profane language on outfits). Other suggestions might be to avoid anything that might drag or get caught on the rides and to remember that this is a family oriented party. (So, you'll see lots of Disney costumes, plus the usual assortment of what's popular with kids. You won't see a lot of skimpy French maids or slasher victims. There will be a few, but they'll stick out like a sore thumb.)

I keep trying to convince DW that this year she needs a certain costume that includes two tiny wings, eyes big and yellow, horns of a steer (but a loveable fellow). I've been looking for an excuse to buy a top hat and dye my beard red.

If you do convince her; I would love to see photos! :)

The used to sell a full costume for infants. It was really cute. Maybe that would be a starting point...

Be warned though we went in costume two years ago I was morticia an DH was Gomez we were so hot after I think maybe two pictures I had to take my wig off. The dress was also too hot. DH was melting in his suit.
Make sure what ever you wear it's cool, and comfortable or take a change of clothes and stash them in a locker.

The guy we saw as chew baca last year that year was a crumpled mess by the end of the night with the heat.

I do hope someone can find and post the photo of the guys dressed up in the various johnny depp costumes that was awesome,

:rotfl: Same for the awesome looking Sully costume I saw. Start of the night, the fellow was wearing it. By the first parade, he had taken the hood off and the front of the costume was unzipped. By the second parade, the whole costume was draped over the handle of the stroller.

Yes the chewbacca was having iced water poured over his head last time we saw.

I so agree, check out my DH - Woody in shorts. I was hot in my wig but would not take it off. My Dstepson was also hot and had a white tshirt on under his costume and kept taking the top part down - except for pictures. Even though it is October - it is still Florida.

I had guessed the Rapunzel on the right (honestly!) because of the wig, the bigger smile and the better dress, although I want to know two things:

1. If the one on the left wasn't a CM, I neeeeeed the pattern to sew that costume! Simplicity makes patterns for Cinderella and Snow White but I want that pattern! I'm a decent seamstress but am lost without a pattern. If anyone has ideas, PM me. I may someday feel inspired to try to fake Rapunzel's dress using a similar looking pattern or patterns (piece 'em together) but ugh.

2. Where did the one on the left get the little Pascal?!?! I LOVE Pascal! I've looked and asked at D-land and DTD (CA) and they don't sell any Pascal items except a large plush which I didn't like because it's probably about a foot long...ridiculous...Pascal is little!

P.S. I agree with wearing a comfy costume...last time at D-land I was dressed as a fairy and although the costume was on the short side and light, I was so hot, just because of the warm daytime weather and relative humidity. You have to be unencumbered enough to ride rides, walk a lot and not sweat off/smear makeup. REALLY reconsider masks. You may be miserable. Or just bring it for photos. The wig is the other reason I'd have a hard time with the Rapunzel costume, although I thought I might sew the dress and go as "Rapunzel right after Flynn cut her hair"...hahaha!

Love the idea of Rapunzel with the shorter brown hair :goodvibes - it would make for a GREAT picture of you and Rapunzel with the long blong hair.

In 2011, my daughter and I went as fairies (her request). She wanted to be SilverMist and insisted I was Tinkerbell. (I made our costumes)

Now, I know I'm NOWHERE near as tiny as the Tinkerbell is at WDW, but I did get quite a few compliments and not a single CM said I was dressed inappropriately (as in dressed the same as a character).

Like they said before, as long as you dont' try to play off like you're the "real" characters, no issues.
