MNSSHP 2014 Planning

I am in the very beginning stages of (possibly) planning a visit to WDW over Labor Day 2014. My DW has always wanted to go to MNSSHP and most likely we'll only be able to go over an extended Labor Day weekend. A few questions...
1) I'm assuming Labor Day is crowded. By comparison, how bad is it?
2) Do they have the "party" every day or selected days?
3) Anything else I need to know?

1. Labor Day weekend is probably the least crowded holiday weekend. I go this weekend most years.

2. Selected days. But the first MNSSHP is usually about a week after Labor Day, somewhere in the September 8-12 range.

3. Depends.

What about Columbus Day weekend? That would be the other possible weekend I could do this. I guess I wasn't really thinking when I started planning Labor Day. Is Columbus Day weekend super crowded?

I have been to Disney over Labor Day for the past 11 years and just booked my airfare for this year also. Labor day weekend is not that crowded. I remember one time in the 11 years, that I said to my mother, boy, it's pretty crowded today.

There are also rumors on sites that the Mickey's not so scary Halloween is going to be going on during Labor Day weekend this year. Friday the 29th and Monday the 1st, the park closes at 7 p.m. so speculation is saying that it must be the Halloween party.

Labor day weekend is a good time because a lot of kids are just back in school and parents don't want to pull them out so early in the year. In the past, they have also offered the free meal plan during Labor day. Last year was the first year since 2003, that they haven't offered the free meal plan over Labor day.

I hate to hype up that weekend too much because I don't want everyone to be like lets go to Disney over LD but we have never had problems.

I will be at WDW August 30 - Sept 2. I will do 2 park days at AK and MK Sunday, August 31 and Monday, Sept 1st. If the MNSSHP is Sept 1st how will the MK crowds be during the day. It it less crowded due to the party that evening? I'm trying to decide which day to MK and which to do AK. Thanks!

Party days are good days to go to the MK because most people don't want to go to the MK on days when it's only open until 7 and there's no MSEP or Wishes.

I've gone Labor Day week a few times and loved it! Crowds were so low and though it was hot the low crowds and short waits helped make the heat bearable.

However, from my experience, MNSSHP doesn't usually begin until after Labor day week so if you are only planning just for the weekend you'll probably miss it.

Do you need to go over a 3-day holiday weekend? If not, why not try the middle of Sept. Crowds are low. We enjoy MNSSHP and like to take our son, but try to do so that he won't miss much school. We were looking at Columbus weekend this past year, but airfare was more expensive than for Sept. So we went towards the end of Sept.

This year we're going Sept. 24- 28 as Sept. 25 & 26 are the Jewish holidays and school should be closed for my son so he will miss only 1 day.

No but if you look at September hours, if MK closes at 7, there should be a party.
