MNSSHP 2014 Official Thread

I'm so glad you started this thread!!! I was looking for one a couple weeks ago. It was suggested I start one. But with the Frozen tip thread going, I knew I couldn't devote the necessary time.

I went to the first party. It was soooo much fun. Hoping to get back to another, but not sure if I will.

Just FYI, all the candy stops had the exact same candy except 1. The Pinocchio Haus had the Werther's again, 2 different kinds. Town Hall had Craisins and other snacks for allergies.

It's always recommended to avoid Friday night parties because more locals attend on Fridays. (Not that you want to avoid locals, just that they're going to make the party more crowded. ;))

Seems Sunday would be less crowded..

Going on Tues 9/16 and hoping for a low crowd night. Just a couple of questions since this will be our first time going:

Are most of the major rides open for the party? Almost all the rides are open during the party. The lines were very small and we enjoyed the rides during the party. It was fun to trick or treat in the Tiki Room as the show was going on while you were trick or treating with all the lights on.

I noticed there are characters at the haunted mansion. Do they do regular meet and greets or is it something different? Carlotta and Renotta are the two ghost ladies that sit on the bench on the lawn of HM. They are a hoot! We love listening and interacting with them. They are great photo ops but you can't get up there with them. I love the pic above where she came down to pose, but that did not happen when I was there....bummer!

Are there Photopass photographers with all of the characters? We only took a pic with Jack Sparrow and he did have a photopass photographer. We got some great shots

What time should we find a spot for the second parade so we don't miss the headless Horseman's entrance?
We lined up at 10PM around the hub and had a great spot for the parade. The headless horseman did come about 10min prior to the parade, so I was not ready with my camera for a good shot.

Hope you have a great time at MNSSHP.

I normally do not like to line up for parades or the fireworks early, but I made an exception for MNSSHP and I am glad I did. Hallowishes and Boo to You are my favorites!

We were able to book a trip for the end of October and are going to attend the MNSSHP. There are two parties when we are there - Sunday, October 26 and Tuesday, October 28. Which night would be better to attend?

Thanks for helping us decide!

Tuesdays generally see lower crowds.

I have been to several MNSSHP at Disneyland but this year will be my first one at Disney World. At Disneyland, the Haunted Mansion is changed to A Nightmare Before Christmas theme--is it the same at Disney World?

How about Space Mountain at DW? Does it get a scarier Halloween theme? The one at DL, scared my daughter.

Any other rides get a Halloween makeover?

Thanks! :)

Unfortunately no Halloween makeovers for rides! I would love to see the NBC overlay one day though!

No makeovers at WDW, thankfully.

The Haunted Mansion NBC overlay is fantastic.

If they could magically install it overnight and remove it overnight from HM I'd be more sympathetic. But since it takes a number of weeks to do both--weeks that lots of once-in-a-lifetime or very rare visitors show up expecting to ride it--I'm not a fan. Let it stay at DLR, where there are far more repeat guests.

That's a very good point.. and I thought of that while I was typing my response... DL relies more on local traffic and keeping things new for the locals.. whereas WDW really worries about the 1 time tourist. Which is why DL gets new fireworks/parades about every 18 months and MK gets new fireworks.. well.. I think it's been over 10 years for wishes....

Having said that, I am still REALLY psyched for my first trip to MNSSHP! :)

It is a great time. Have fun! :thumbsup2

Flying down tomorrow for a weekend trip to take the wife to the halloween party and the kids for all three birthdays (yep that's right....my wife and 2 kids have bdays between 8/31 and 9/21). It's how you justify a 3 day weekend flight :jumping1:

Anyhow.....we were just there this summer so we will really take advantage of party stuff....except with a lower park capacity, of course we are hoping for shorter lines for the 7 dwarfs mine train. I'm sure it's still full, but please tell me it won't be a 90 minute wait during the party? I was really hoping for 30 minutes or less.....especially later on in the night.

Unfortunately we're going on a Friday...it's just the best night that worked out in our schedule, plus its the last night of our trip so thought it would be a cool way to end it. Hope we're not dissapointed.

Question...We'll definitely be attending the parade and fireworks and also taking advantage of some rides while there and trick or treating. So aside from those and character meet and greets (which we'll skip if its long lines), what is there to do that's worthwhile?

The few reports I've read from the early parties are encouraging.

You pretty much summed up what the parties offer. On a smaller level, there are various PhotoPass "magic shots" and an exclusive Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom card.

we found the Villain's Dance Party a lot of fun...great interaction. (prob because I love the step sister and they were there) we did both the one at the Diamond Horseshoe saloon and then the Monster's Inc one in Tomorrowland. We chose those over the Villains Stage show since the mingle part was removed. We did the fireworks and then 2nd parade and it worked out quite well. We had time to run and do HM in between and had a great front row seat on the curve of the hub on the Tomorrowland side at the bridge....made for great pics as the castle is the backdrop in the phots..esp the Headless Horseman ones. We attended the first party and attendance was low so that helped a lot, but I think you will have a great time , we wished we had at least 3 more hours! It was our favorite part of our trip so having it on your last night should be a fab send off!:thumbsup2

I am hoping this is the right place to post my dumb question. Regarding the magic shots they do in front of haunted mansion, etc., do you have to purchase the photo in the park for the effect? Or are you able to purchase later through photopass online? I need a picture with the hitchhiking ghosts for my life to be complete :goodvibes

I have somehow always missed magic shots, but I want to try them this trip. I will be doing the late soiree though, so rather than shopping and going to the photo shop for the last half hour, I will be at the castle and don't want to spend prime party time getting pictures printed. Thanks in advance!!

They were available through PP for me a couple of years ago, I assume it's no different this year.
