Mmmm. . . Bagels and lox on a Sunday morning

When the kids are home for holidays I get them bagels from Panera as a treat. Too many calories for DH and I to eat. Kids usually have them toasted with butter or cream cheese. Never had lox.

Plain, salt, or sesame bagel with plain cream cheese and lox. Sometimes with tomato slices, and red onion as well.

I grew up with bagels with lox and cream cheese every Sunday after Hebrew school and of course for break-fast on Yom kippur

But these had to be real bagels from a deli. Western Bagels are okay. But bagels just don't taste the same from any place like panera, or grocery store bakeries, etc. at least not IMO.

Unfortunately, now I am allergic to wheat and dairy so bagels and cream cheese have been non existent in my lfe for almost 2 years.

There are no deli's anywhere near me, nor in the Irish immigrant enclave where I grew up. I did not meet a Jewish person until college! I'm not sure when I had my first bagel, and I'm sure I've never had a 'real' one in your eyes!

love a ripe, juicy slice of summer tomato, with a dab of cream cheese, lox over that, and then capers on top. No need for a bagel.

I do love bagels, though. With jalapeno cream cheese.

And raisin bagel with cream cheese and then bacon top of it.

Basically thinly sliced smoked salmon

Yum! Always wondered what that was.

For me, if I'm not super hungry, just cream cheese. Otherwise, I make a sandwich with Monterey Jack and cheddar cheese, a fried egg, and thick cut hickory smoked bacon from a local butcher. Obviously, that doesn't work on something like a blueberry bagel :lmao:

Classic for me is everything with cream cheese; if it's a day old or from (sigh) the grocery store, I toast it. I like lox best with a plain, pumpernickel or salt bagel.

The only sweet bagel I can stand is cinnamon raisin. My husband occasionally orders a blueberry bagel, which I call a muffin.

I love a jalapeno bagel toasted with butter. For a sweeter thing, I love a cinnamon raisin toasted with peanut butter. That was a go to for me while pregnant.

Everything bagel with butter and cream cheese (mixed together).

No need to toast, if it's a good bagel.

YUM

I love an everything, sesame seed or poppyseed bagel with just cream cheese and lox :) It's one of my favorite foods. Not as good here as in NYC though!

Growing up with a Jewish family in the Chicago suburbs, lox and bagels was a staple Sunday brunch at our house. My toppings were lox, cream cheese, red onion, tomato, and cucumber.

Sadly, I moved to Wisconsin and married into a Lutheran family. There's no such thing as a good bagel in northern WI. Whenever we go back to visit, bagels and Portillos are a must!!

Personally I am just a cream cheese on bagels kind of girl!

But since you did bring up Portillios...we have had this 2times this month...once when we took our DD to O'Hare, the other when we picked her up. I agree that a good Chicago-style hotdog is a must!

I like cinnamon raisin bagels with butter or cream cheese. Once in awhile, I'll have it with DH's homemade veggie cream cheese.

Homemade veggie cream cheese sounds really really good. I used to love using veggie cream cheese as a spread on pita bread for sandwiches or just plain pita bread.

If it's a bagel from a jewish deli, than plain cream cheese, lox, and capers. Plain bagel or salt bagel.

If it's from anywhere else: Savory bagel=veggie or scallion cream cheese, not toasted. Sweet bagel=toasted with butter (I tend to gravitate to savory).

I love asiago cheese bagels with cream cheese. But, I like all bagels, really (except for raisin).

We pick up a dozen bagels every Sunday. My favorite is a blueberry bagel, toasted with butter. Actually it's Country Crock. My dd was very annoyed one morning when we just got our bagels made at the deli. "The lady used the wrong kind of butter!" :lmao: Actually love, she used the best kind of butter! :goodvibes. The rest of the family likes Everything or Egg bagels toasted with butter.

Really? Where do you live? It is common language here.

I live in Ontario, Canada. Never heard of any of these things and just asking my DH he hasn't either. Never tried smoked salmon in my life. We buy multi-grain bagels at the grocery store. Probably not a "real" bagel.

I like everything bagels with cream cheese, YUMMY! I also like blueberry and cinnamon with cream cheese, I prefer whipped cream cheese over regular, it's so good.
I also like egg sandwich bagels, slice of cheese, bacon or ham and an egg, of course plain bagels work best for this and cream cheese is a must. :) I also like to use bagels for lunch sandwiches, cream cheese, lunch meat, cheese, veggies, good stuff!

An everything bagel with cream cheese, capers, red onion, lox, and hard boiled egg crumbled. yum! If I want sweet I have a raisin cinnamon toasted with cream cheese. It's been a while! :)

Yum!

I love a good bagel with butter.

When I was a kid there was a bagel factory called Watson's in Irvington, nj that rivaled anything you found in NYC. They closed years ago. :sad1:

I also love a bialy but they are really hard to find.
