MM Warriors - Three Steps to Good Health (As of 11/18)

Sushi was sooooo good! Not all with rice so I think we did fine, actually. I ate a lot of edamame first. Nell, Tom is very much into his dog, lol! That's his best hobby. I was trying to think what Tom would be doing at Robin's where we all had our assignments and in my mind, I couldn't get him off the porch. I could at least see him throwing frisbee for all of our dogs!:rotfl:We did find a nice belt today. I'll have a chat with him tomorrow after I read Diane's email. I don't know that I want to know that there is no stacking, lol! I might eat too much! I wonder how long between carb dams one should aim for then? I try to go 5 hours and put one in half way if I know I'm going over. The weather in Hawaii sounds fantastic, Jocelyn! I'm glad you had fun with your friends. Robin, thanks for helping me with the email. We're going to watch Angels and Demons now, if Tom can stay awake.

Yay Barb!!! Good for you! That is right, you and all of us are done with dieting! The MM works! I get what you are saying with collecting diet books becoming a way of life. I've found what works now. Like Pony points out, there is nothing wrong with keeping up on the research. But what a relief to know we don't have to keep trying something else.

Lisa, is Tom almost to a normal weight? That would explain not losing. I think that meals 1 hour apart aren't ideal, but I know going without eating is more of what we have to worry about. Maybe he could have a carb free or 5x5 morning snack instead? That way he wouldn't be doubling up so close.

He was trying to follow the rule about eating before working out, but then forgot to work out, LOL! He usually eats 1/2 banana when he gets going to the gym and then the breakfast he packs. He could stand to lose more weight, but he's not terribly overweight anymore. He lost 40 lbs. before MM and had gained some back, so I don't know exactly. He keeps his stats kind of close to the vest. I think from being the big kid for his whole life. He's done really well, just no pounds on Step 2. I think he's lost inches though.

Hi Nell - we must have been posting at the same time. There is another web site I have been on where people did change clothes. It was larger than our little group, but it might still work.

Lisa - it might be sleep deprivation that has stalled Tom's weight loss. I was going to ask how much he still needed to lose, too. Are the inches changing - that is supposed to be the real test, not the scale. I know it is certainly easier to eat the same things at meals you share, but how many meals do you share with his schedule?

I just wrote my boss and sweetly told him what he could do with his latest job he had for me. :goodvibes Boy do I feel better! This one was a doozy. I've had enough. Marti thinks I've become so invaluable to him that he'll come back a whole lot nicer. I don't care at this point! :rotfl: I'll offer to rake lawns or something and make more money!

OK, Im back...talked myself into going after all! Every night when I get out of work I can easily convince myself I am too tired to go, but my car drives itself there now, so I have no choice!! LOL, of course I feel great afterwards, so its all good! I definitely notice that my arms are feeling firmer...not so much jiggling when I wave them around!!:lmao:

Jocelyn - unfortunately, the only times Ken and I can actually talk LIVE, is when he is on the mainland, and the time difference coincides with a time I can talk. He is now 13 hours ahead since we went to daylight savings here. Its mostly offline messages on our yahoo IM these days, and occasionally we get to Live Chat there as well.:sad2:, oh well, not a thing we can do about it, so its better to have the messages than nothing! I stil smile when I log in to the messenger and find his notes there for me!

Lisa - I will search for the e-mail Diane sent me as soon as I am done here and send it to you...are there any doggie type gifts you could get Tom? there are lots of cool things on dog.com...maybe something they could share? They have some neat light up frisbees and stuff for romping at night!! I can definitely see him in charge of Doggie Day Care here during our retreat!! My old dog is still very much into chasing tennis balls, although I think the frisbee would interest him as well! If there is another dog around and he has to keep up, he acts like a puppy again! At least for a little while, til he collapses and takes a nap! He would so LOVE to have someone who wouldnt mind throwing that ball over and over and over and over and over...I get sick of it quick, so he would appreciate someone with a little more dedication!

Nell - what did your boss ask you to do that ticked you off? I laughed and thought to myself, oh how far our Nell has come!! Good for you for sticking up for yourself...Im sure Marti is quite right and he will come around to your way of thinking! Gotta keep those men in line or they try to walk all over you!!:cool1: Not sure what the heck size I am these days...I like my tops loose, so have been wearing 2x for quite awhile, but they are huge on me, so I have gotten a few 1x, and they fit well...looking forward to the day I am back in a regular misses XL and out of the plus sizes. I could probably get into them now, but they would be tighter than I like. I started out a size 20 pants, went to 18, and now I can get into the 16, but they are still really snug in the waist and I dont find them comfortable enough to wear all day at work. I also have trouble fitting in straighter leg pants as I do have big calves...all the working out back in the day! The 16 fits much better in the legs and butt, but that darn waistline still keeps me wearing the 18's for comforts sake, especially since I sit at a desk all day. Cant be bothered with "sucking it in" all day long!!

Lisa - if Tom is keeping his stats close, cant you tell by looking at him? If he has dropped a couple pants sizes I would think you would be able to at least get the gist of whether or not you think he needs to lose ALOT more or maybe just a few more pounds? My ex is 6'5", and used to go around 310...he has lost 75 pounds this year and I swear he looks way too skinny now to me...the gym he goes to says he should weigh like 225, but to me that is not realistic for a guy his height and with his build. Its amazing how the same weight can look so different on each person depending on their overall body structure! I know when I was a size 9, I weighed 165 pounds!! Nobody ever believed me.

going to bed and maybe get to sleep in an extra hour tomorrow...haha, we all know that will never happen! Something tells me the ponies KNOW when my car is home and they will be up here gazing at the house at some ridiculous hour of the morning! I need to get one of those sleep mask things!!:rotfl:

We only share dinner, but he packs food I make for the other meals. He hasn't missed much sleep until this past week. He's on call a lot through the holidays this year. I'm going to see if I can get him to get his chart out and measure again tomorrow.

Robin: I can't tell much difference for a while on Step 2 with Tom. He can fluctuate really quickly since he's so big. I know he weighs less than 300 and he's 6'6". I'm thinking maybe around 280?? Maybe less - I don't know...It was his idea to go back to Step 1, but that was after I told him I thought something was wrong. For all I know, he made a mistake when he told me he's only lost 8 lbs. altogether. I find that really hard to believe since he's lost 2 pants sizes and I've lost 18 lbs. Something doesn't add up and it really threw me for a loop. I'll do more detective work tomorrow and see what we can figure out.

Hi Lisa - sent you that info to your e-mail...I think its a good idea for him to re-measure and check the chart again. I know that if I went by what the doctors charts said I should weigh for my height it would be like 125-130 pounds!! I would seriously be skin and bones to weigh that much. I would have to wear like a size 0 or 2!! Never going to happen with my build!! and I can honestly say I would NOT want to look like that!!

OK, now Im REALLY going to bed!!

This week I was supposed to get all of the email contacts for the radio stations here in Florida, and they are just not published! No where! I could get numbers and fax numbers, but not email. The only one I was able to find is because I accidentally hacked into a page of the fcc database and they had it listed in their contact info. But I'm not a hacker, and besides I don't know how legal that is. I just copied it because I was there. I don't want to go there on purpose. There's like 300 radio stations on the list, and it would take me hours upon hours to try and find the info, which I can't even find. I wrote him a letter and re applied to petco again. They have a new one in Palm Harbor. I'd love to work part time, at least until school gets too hectic and I have to start internship type deals. I just wish there were jobs available, they are all taken in this area.

Kathy: Mike loves you so much and is so good to you. Do you think he could keep his treats in a place you don’t see so he’s not tempting you? I know for sure he wants the best for you from everything you’ve told us about him. Perhaps you just need to tell him what you need by way of support to succeed.
You are so right. I will have a heart to heart with him today. He really is so good to me. Treats me like a queen, and to admit it, I love it!! Thanks for the input and the reminder that it's ok to ask for help if I need it.

Kathy - I forgot to mention earlier that I got decaf espresso roast at Starbuck's a while ago.
Thank you Jocelyn for the heads up. I actually have 2 starbucks here in town, plus the stores sell their coffee, so I will be looking for it today for sure. I am such a coffeeholic!! But don't even miss it the way I used to drink it thanks to the espresso machine and the syrups.
Thanks again!

Good morning everyone! It's a cold beautiful day here. It was a chilly 28* out when I got up at 8. Wednesday is to be almost 50*! The sun is shinning so brightly, I opened the blind, and it's coming into the living room right where I am sitting. It's great!

Nell, good for you telling your boss no way! That is just plain crazy!! I have a good friend who is a manager at Petco and he loves it. Plus you get 20% off your dog food, toys, etc. I will say a prayer for you. I had to chuckle to myself when you said about going out and raking leaves and what not. I remembered way back when you started this WOE, how tired you always seemed. My how this has changed your life! I am so happy for you and your new life. I would love to have your weather. Any time you want to switch (except for the hurricanes) just let me know. LOL

Have a great day everyone. I am back on track and feeling a bit better today. I know a lot of the depression is just the time of year. It usually doesn't hit this bad until Jan. or Feb. Going to take Tyson for a walk to get my fresh air and sunshine in today.

Lisa, Tom can play with Tyson all he wants when we go to Robins. The only problem is when you play ball, he thinks WE should get him and the ball, not him bring it to us LOL. Maybe Bonnie can explain it to him :lmao:

Kate, loved the beach photos you posted on FB! Wish I could have been there to enjoy it with you!!

Catch you all later

Nell: I second the motion that the job request was too much! Thanks for your suggestion for dog things for Tom and Bonnie. I got him a Chuck It from her for her first Fathers Day and they have several Frisbees. She gets so depressed if he is more than 10 minutes late home – they are so cute together!

Tom is upstairs re-evaluating what ever he has written down and his current status. His doctor says he doesn’t have much fat left to pinch, even though he is a big guy. He has added a lot of muscle so maybe there isn’t much to lose and Jocelyn is right – it’s slowing down because he’s so close to his goal. I do know he sure feels good, lol! I love this new muscle he has in his arm. The charts have him at a ridiculous weight, too, Robin. I think there are some people that really are ‘big-boned’. His ancestry is Dutch and they are not tiny people. You’ll see what I mean when you get our Christmas card.

OK, he's back down and says he's lost 12 lbs. since we started MM and he weighs 285. He's not matching the charts at all, but he can tuck a tee shirt in and not look like there is much extra. He should lose about 2 more inches off his waist to be super heart healthy. I think we've decided to keep him on Step 2 and put safeguards in place so no matter how long he is stuck out working, he has a food source. Lots of Wheat Thins, lol!

Kathy: I’m so glad you are going to talk to Mike. He sounds so sweet. I bet you feel even closer after your chat. You are a lucky woman!

My fellas are going to do the lights together and get me down my boxes so I can do my tree so I am going to be singing Christmas songs today! Yippee!!!

I did get 2 of the davinci caramel syrups at Sams. They only had the caramel in s/f. I will go to Greensburg Sams and see if they may have other flavors. What does Kaluha taste like? I do like that you get twice as much syrup for the same price as Walmart.

I looked for the DaVinci syrups at my Sam's last night and couldn't find them. Where are they located in yours?

I lost two pounds! I was afraid to weigh even though I didn’t cheat, isn’t that weird?? Holidays are scary! I’m still on that average 1 pound per week. Very slow, but it’s happening!

Wow Lisa - congrats on the 2 lbs.

Good Morning

It sounds as if everyone had a great Thanksgiving. We did. The buffet we went to was lovely and we were able to pick what we wanted. No one noticed the absence of potatoes, etc.

I didn't go near a store yesterday. I finished my afghan - it only took about 12 years, but there was a looooong break in there!!!

Today I am meeting friends in Waikiki for lunch. They came in on a cruise ship this morninng.

We got out Bob's Christmas shirts yesterday and there we some pants in the box that we had stored away, too. They were a bit too small at the time. Well, they all fit so the too big ones he has been holding up with a belt went into the storage box. If they are still there next year we will then Goodwill them. His newest belt is now too big so he will probably get a new one!! Great idea Lisa!!

The sun is shining in on me. Looks to be a lovely day.

Love to ALL:love:

Jocelyn - sounds like you had a great Thanksgiving and lovely day after. Congrats on the afghan. I have a couple of projects like that sitting in my closet. It sounds like Bob's been very successful on this WOE.

BTW - I have your crock pot soy bean chili in the CP right now. It will be dinner tonight. Seemed decadent to use CP on a weekend when I'm home, but DH has a tendency to want to go out on Sundays, but he really likes this chili, so hopefully we'll stay home. If not, it will be perfect to reheat tomorrow.

Robin: I remembered why I dismissed the Lee bootcut jeans - because they have pockets with a flap and button, which adds volume to the bootay. Might really work great for your skinny bottom half. I don't need any extra real esate in that vacinity! I am so glad I watched that Oprah on perfect bras and jeans. I know I've been going on about it! I did find it really helpful. The 'girls' are finally up where they belong and fit nicely within the uppers paramaters of my cross-over tee! Gives me more room for an actual waist, lol! I can see a difference today. The back fat is going down! I used to be grossed out by that - how did I end up with so much of it??? Thank you, MM!!!

Have a great evening!

I need to see if that Oprah show is online to figure out what bra I need. The girls could use a "lift". Glad the backfat is disappearing!

Hello everyone. Just wanted to drop in. Sounds like everyone's a little busy enjoying family and friends. I'm enjoying my daughter before she goes back to school tomorrow. Today wasn't bad. I helped my sister move and lost track of time and forgot to eat my 11/20, but I got something in as soon as I realized it. Well about to go to the movies...girls night out (me, my sister and my daughters). Have a wonderful MM evening.

Sandra

Sandra - so good to see you. I hope you had a great girls night out. Did you allow yourself anything to eat at the movies? Last time DD and I took sunflower seeds and a zippie bag for the shells. They last a long time and fulfill that salty craving I have at the movies.

Ladies and Tom,

I took a huge leap of faith today and took all of my other diet books to the used book store :yay: I told hubby I won't be going back to try any of them ever again :woohoo: MM will be the final chapter in my WOE and WOL.

Pony, thanks for clarifying what Diane said about switching back and forth. Anyone interested in a very good background of the research that supports lowcarb eating, you might like "Good Calories, Bad Calories" by Gary Taube. What Diane has done, has taken low carb one step further in helping us control our L&P by timing our carbs correctly. We now have the perfect recipe for health and weight control. :dance3: Ok, I'm preaching to the choir, I'll stop. I'm just happy today :)

Barb - I'm so glad you are sure you have found your "solution". I need to look thru my books and take some to the book store also. I need to see if any of my WW cookbooks have core recipes. They might be ok for MM.

Beverly: I miss you! What are you up to these days?

Just keeping busy around here. I have 10 minutes until we leave for DD's soccer double header, so I am trying to check in.

Robin - good job on working out! I did my Zumba yesterday a.m. and will be back again tomorrow. I think we are all so proud of Nell and how she is standing up for herself, and taking care of herself. WAY TO GO NELL!!!

Atta girl on the sizes lost. You'll be in the regular XLs before you know it.

Nell - one thought if you have to do this job, is to find the website for each radio station and find the contact us button. Many times there will be an e-mail address there, or if there is a link to click for e-mail, it will open your e-mail program and put their e-mail address in the TO: box. Just a thought.

It sounds like Tom is "solid packed" in his skin and might not have a ton to lose. I think you should both stay on Step 2 and just back extra food like you said.

Have fun with your Christmas decorating.

I'm off to soccer!

Bev, if I remember right, the syrups were either with the coffee or with the baking stuff. Sorry I can't remember for sure.
You could also go online and pull up "your store" and see if they carry it. I believe you can also have them pull it for you and you just need to pick it up then.
Still doing :laundy: since I was lazy yesterday. But I am doing a "fly" and putting each load away as it comes out of the dryer. Usually I wait until I fold everything then have a couple baskets to do. This seems a little nicer. Doesn't seem like as many to do ;)
Going to take Tyson for a walk in a while. It is a beautiful day out. Almost 60* do I don't want to waste it inside all day.:cloud9:

Ok guys, where do you order your Davinci syrups from? Or do you just order them directly from Davinci? I need some flavors for my muffins, etc. All I have available in s/f is vanilla, chocolate, and caramel.
Thanks guys

Good Morning All

Beverly - nice to hear from you. Glad you like the chili. I am going to make a batch this week. I love that you don't have to really stir things in the crock-pot, even if I am at home!! Plus, it smells soooo good.

Bob really just follows Atkins or lower carb eating - he has added a few more things back in and we have always used a lot of veggies and salads. I don't think I could ever convince him to follow the 5 hour rule, but I don't think he is a met B either. The minute he thinks he is gaining a bit now, he just watches what he eats a bit more closely. I did try to get him to eat something when he got up and before bed and I think he does eat a cheese stick most times, but not faithfully!

I had a bit of Frage yogurt before bed last night and I slept llike a baby.

Nell - Bev had a really great suggestion for getting the addresses. The changes that you have made are remarkable. It would be great if you could get a job outside the house. Your new found confidence would make it great -especially at a pet store!! Just keep trying and you might wear them down!!

Kathy - hope you find the coffee - they should have it. :surfweb: Enjoy while "talking" to us!

:):)Have a great MM day EVERYONE:):)

I would Google Da Vinci - there seem to be a lot of options. I know Netrition sells it with a flat shipping charge no matter what the order - at least that is what they advertise for the 48 mainland states. You would have to compare costs of bottles as well as shipping for your area.

One of my favorites is cinnamon and I use it to sweeten applesauce. I also have pineapple that I put into my teryaki sauce - a little bit of that goes a long way, though. I think they also have a "simple syrup" type that would be 0 cals. It could be used to sweeten anything.

Time to get on with my day. "See" you all later.

Bev: Sunflower seeds is a great movie idea! I’ve been avoiding the theatre so far since I have such a weakness for popcorn. No, Nell, I cannot have 3 air popped cups, LOL! It has to be drenched in butter. Gross. I was thinking flavored almonds might work for me. It was great to see you and thanks for the validation for Tom. I complimented him today on tucking his tee shirt into his jeans. A far cry from last year when he was wearing tent shirts loose.

Kathy: I got my syrup from locarbu.com Love the pumpkin pie flavor. I saw hazelnut at Home Goods and they had a big sale on a bunch of them at Cost Plus World Market, if you have one of those. Pineapple would be wonderful even in those muffins! My favorite thing at the Westin in Maui was the pineapple muffins in the morning on the cart. I’m easy to please – a muffin, coffee and hit the beach. Now, I take a portable blender and make shakes in the room.
