I bought this today at Michael's and I have a few questions before I decide to keep it.

1. There wasn't any instructions or info in the box -- should there have been? The box wasn't taped shut, so maybe I got a returned item.

2. How do you cut small paper? If I have a 3 x 4 piece of paper and I want to cut it down to 1 1/2 x 4 how do I do that -- the 1 1/2 mark is under the clear paper holder - -there is no way I can see to hold your paper in place. It is also difficult to see if it is lined up right. Am I missing something?

3. What is the red lever for?

I had high hopes for this cutter -- I am so tired of bad cutters and replacing blades. I must be able to trim a small piece of paper or the cutter is just not for me.

Thanks for your help.

The red tab lets you take the blade assembly apart. I have taken mine off twice because I got a lot of fuzziness, and so the cut was a little less sharp than normal, so I just took it off, wiped it down and it was fine.

Yes, cutting small stuff is a problem. Usually, I subtract from a bigger piece. So if I have something 7" wide, but I only need 1," I will line it up at the 6" mark and then what I cut is 1". But sometimes I do need small cuts, like making squares, and for that I pull out my old Fiskars trimmer.

My one problem is that the grid is wearing off, but I emailed MM last week, and they told me to fill out a replacement request. And other people have said that there was a bad batch and that they have had no problem getting the machine replaced.

I think the only instructions I had were on the back of the box, and weren't very detailed.

But I LOVE my cutter. I go through so much Bazzill, that my blades with the Fiskers would barely make it through one swap project (and forget it if I was cutting Bling paper).

I have this cutter and I loved it up until Saturday when it developed a very annoying "squeak". Can't figure out what's causing it.

For smaller pieces, I do the same thing Hope does with cutting from a bigger piece. Yeah that gets annoying, but I can deal with it compared to all of the blades I was going through with my Fiskars trimmer.

Thanks ladies. So I have to hold onto my old cutter for the small stuff. Hmmm

I would still keep the MM one. It is great for cutting large quantities of items (you know, like we swappers tend to do!). I have no problem cutting through 2 pieces of Bazzill at a time with mine.

I'll keep the MM one. I just need to figure what to do about small things. The cutter I have been using is a full 12x12 cutter with a guillotine arm -- it takes up too much space in my scrap closet to keep there. I also have a CM cutter which would fit fine, but there is the whole blade thing again. I'll need to get some replacements and they are pretty expensive since you can't use 40% coupon.
