I emailed Airtours to see if they would tell me if there was any extra charges with the new air tax which came out. We paid our balance in full when we booked so I wanted to see if there would be any additional costs.

This was the reply

Good Evening

If you have paid your full balance there will be now additional costs to pay

How would you take that. Is it a typo with now meaning no or does it mean we will have to pay the extra?

Many thanks

Hi Louise,
If its a package holiday you have nothing to pay its in all tour operator T&C's they cannot charge you the extra tax.
Here is link to Airtours T&C's, read section 3. Surcharges. Simply says they absorb costs of upto 2% of your hoilday costs including any government imposed increases.

Hope this helps.

I can confirm I have had NO requests from any charter package companies for the extra APD charge, they are all absorbing the cost as far as I can see

lol No extra costs I would hope!
Was it a box standard letter - pp signature type thing?
That's terrible - point it out to them! Lol my spelling and grammar are just as bad!

Does anyone know if all airlines are 'absorbing' the costs?

I booked with Thomas Cook Signature and am flying with Virgin.

Its a package deal and we still have some to pay on it.

We have heard nothing from our travel agents so I am assuming we don't have to? Though I won't be suprised if a nasty suprise hits us when we check in.

Virgin are not absorbing the cost, whether Thomas Cook sig decide to or not you'd have to ask, they are only chasing payments up to May at the mo so if you're travelling after that date they wouldn't catch up with you yet, Do not be surprised to get a letter or bill through showing the additional cost, economy class £20 pp, upper class and premium £40 pp

So is this a standard policy with any package holiday and all operators?

I've established that when we do WDW with Virgin Hols in Sept they are absorbing the cost, but we are going skiing with Inghams in a few weeks, and I've been wondering if they're going to charge us the extra £5 each when we get to the airport.

I thought all operators had stuff written into the contracts that say it is possible for taxes etc. to go up and you may have to pay for it? I could be wrong though, that's why I'm here asking :)

Looks like you escape the surcharge as a on a European ski holiday, but long haul ski packages will have to pay - see here.

Claire ;)

Phew! That's good. I know it was only a fiver anyway, but all those little costs add up ;)

Inghams are not collecting at the airport, Virgin Holidays have so far not asked me for any APD although Virgin Airlines have.
