MK Touring Dilemma?

I've run into a bit of a dilemma concerning our upcoming October trip and would like a little advice.

On Thursday, October 9, our daughter's High School marching band is supposed to march in the MK. Now normally, that being an EMH day at MK, we wouldn't go near there. And to further complicate matters, Epcot will be closing at 3pm that day due to the press party that's going on with Mission:Space, so I'm betting that crowds will be even worse as people leave Epcot and head to the other parks.

What would be your strategy in this situation? Do we head to MK early and take advantage of EMH (we usually don't do this as a rule, but maybe this time??). Do we enjoy another park early and head to MK in time to get good seats to see our band? Do we tough out the crowds and just do the best we can? I think MK is open until 8:30 that night... will the crowds make it unbearable to stay later in the evening?

What are your thoughts??

How cool - where and when that day is her band marching? We will be there that week. I was planning to do EMH that day with a ps at Crystal Palace at 11:30 and then we'll leave. I am thinking of coming back that night for Spectromagic, because even though crowds will be high with Epcot closed, it will probably be worse on Saturday. I think for something as special as your dd being in there you can endure crowds! I just wouldn't count on it being your best day to see all attractions in MK.

I don't have complete details yet, the band director told us final plans probably wouldn't be released until about 2 weeks before we go, BUT they are supposed to march in the MK and I'm guessing it will be right before the 3pm parade. Obviously we will endure crowds regardless of size for the parade, I'm just wondering about whether we should plan on touring another park in the morning or afternoon (after the parade). Unfortunately, because it is a band trip, we'll only be there 5 days so I don't have a lot of options as far as what day to do what park.

I'll definitely post again when I find out concrete details... or at least as concrete as possible... as we all know with Disney, Plans are subject to change!;)

Call me crazy, but October isn't exactly peak season. Even with EMH, I think you're probably worrying unnecessarily about the crowds.

Leaving after the parade might be advisable due to the Epcot closing, but in the morning, I'd take advantage of EMH to hit the big rides, enjoy a nice lunch at the park, and remember to line up early for the parade.
