Has anyone done this tour? My DH is a major train collector, and is very interested in this. He has to BE AT MAIN GATE at 6:15am tho! Just wanted to see if it was interesting enough to justify the cost and early wake up call!

My DH did this last year and LOVED it! He's into the history of trains. Their tour was supposed to be over and the group continued to sit above the train station and talk for quite a while after the set finish time. His tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and loved sharing all he knew. I had to leave DS with him while they were sitting and talking because DD and I had fast passes for Space Mountain. DS even got a special button and a pass to be "guest conductor" on the train. I would say it is most definately worth the money and the early wake-up call. ::MinnieMo

I booked this for my DH on our last trip at the beginning of May and it was worth every penny! My DH loves Disney but this tour alone converted him to a Disney Nut. The tour is very technical so your DH will love it (it's not like- "look at the pretty trains" ). My DH got to be in the locomotive while it was running and he was thrilled, plus got photos that he never would've been able to get. Bring a CAMERA!!! They tell you not to, but there are lots of in the park areas that you can take pics. The engineers that run the tour will stay all day with you (no kidding!) so make sure to leave extra time after the tour is "over". My DH said that he would gladly pay 10x the price for the experience and he can't say enough great things about it so I would get it for your husband... he will love you for it. Don't forget if you have an AP or maybe even AAA etc., that they offer a discount.

So what did you and DD do while the 'guys' were at the train tour? Since they had to be there so early, did you just come later to MK? I'm trying to figure out the logistics of it all (we're staying at POR). Thanks!

The kids and I went to MK for opening time. DH went on the tour on an early open day at MK, so we all rode over together and the kids and I just hung around until the park opened. We did our thing around the park and arranged to turn on our walkie talkies at the time the tour was to end. It was easy to re-connect this way. DS was with me until after the tour time was "officially" over. I believe they don't allow kids under age 10 on this particular tour, but it was OK with the tour guide while the group was sitting chatting after the official tour was over. ::MinnieMo

He actually needs to be at the Main Entrance at 7:15, not 6:15... The tour starts at 7:30. The tour is definetly worth it, especially for someone who is into trains. It is very informative, the tour guides are great and you get the rare opportunity to sit in the locomotive of the train. As was said make sure he has a camera... They will tell you that cameras are not allowed on the tour but that is the standard tour speil when you book. The train tour actually has camera spots built into the tour.

Dan Murphy did this tour a couple of years ago and posted some great pictures of it. They should still turn up if you run a search.

I just booked this tour for my DS, DF and DBIL. They are all avid train buffs and collectors. It sounds like it's a going to be a very interesting tour. That will help cushion the early hour for them.

Thanks for the info.

Go to WDW web page. Then type in "train tour". That's where you can get info about it. Call 407-WDW-TOUR to schedule. It's 3 hours, cost $40, and runs on M/Tu/Th/Sat at MK.

Thanks so much for the info I booked it for him just now!!

He will be SOOO excited!!
