Do you replace your tires based on wear, mileage or age?

How do your decide when it is time to replace tires?

As a former tire-buster I follow the thread depth gauge. You can get one off on amazon for like $4.00 . Use it and remember that anything below 2/32 is a failed tire. Age doesnt matter unless the tires have been sitting up and not being driven on.
The tire companies say age does matter. 6 years being the figure used.
 
I wait until the mechanic tells me it looks like I need them and then ask my dad if he agrees. I just replaced mine at the beginning of last summer since I had a flat that couldn't be repaired. Hopefully it will be awhile before I have to replace them.
 
About every 3 years. The heat where I live kills them, regardless of miles. Batteries never make it more than 2 years.
