Can you only get from MK to Wilderness Lodge by boat?

Where is the boat? Is it by the boat to Fort Wilderness?

Thanks :)

There are no buses directly from WL - MK. The boat runs pretty regularly and depending on the time of year will make stops at Fort Wilderness either on the way to MK or on the return.
You get the boat from the WL dock which is right past the main pool.

Is the boat at MK to WL in the same place as where I would take the boat to FW?

From MK, take the same boat. It stops at both FW & WL. The boat dock is very clearly marked at MK.

(There is also a boat route that goes WL/FW/CR. It's smaller.)

The boat may go to Fort Wilderness first or may go directly to the Lodge, it depends. If it does go to FW first, enjoy the ride.

I'm taking the little ones to Whispering Canyon Cafe at the WL while my husband goes to Disney Quest with my oldest son. We're staying offsite (free accomodations at Westgate Vacation Villas since we own a condo in a ski resort, we just trade weeks :-)

We thought it might be fun to take the boat and monorail just to spend time before heading back to downtown Disney. Is that possible? How long would it take? I also forgot how long it's okay to park if you're coming from offsite to a resort restaurant.

To answer you questions:

Yes it is possible.

You get a three hour parking pass for any resort for either eating or shopping.

The only busses to DTD are from the resorts. So, from WL you can take the boat to MK (10 minute ride with at most a 20 minute wait). Take the RESORT monorail to the CR or Poly or GF and take the DTD bus from there. (5-15 minute monorail ride depending on which resort, at most a 20 minute bus wait, 20 minute bus ride, get off at the PI stop (not market place)

So a best it will take an hour to get to DTD that way or at worst almost 2 hours.

Dani, I'm confused by your post and then the reply. Are you looking to go to DTD from WL or just wanting to "ride the circuit" so to speak? If you're just looking to kill time, you can boat to MK then ride the resort monorail around Poly, Contemporary, and GF and still eat at WCC all within 3 hrs. You could also just take the boat to Ft Wilderness and take the little ones to the petting zoo. Ft. Wilderness is a pretty neat place to explore.

Have fun no matter what you decide.

I am going to drive to WL and park, but both of the above posts answered my question, thanks! I had not though of checking out FW but it sound like I will have plenty of time to do so. We have never stayed at the resorts, so I like to see them when we can, especially now that we can trade weeks at several of Disney's "villa" properties.

Just an aside here, but it isn't easy trading into DVC. Some people have done it, but unless someone from DVC wants to trade out into your resort, it will be difficult. VWL is the smallest DVC resort, so it fills up quickly.
