MK to Epcot by monorail or cab?

We just got reservations for our arrival night 8/19 at LeCellier at 8:50pm. Naturally I have the kids all whooped up to charge straight to the MK after 12:45pm landing at MCO. So, we are dumping Liberty Tree Tavern ressies to take LeCellier and I am wondering how long to leave to get from MK to Epcot for our reservations. Can I get there by monorail? Thanks!!!

Yes, you can get to EPCOT from MK by monorail.

Take the monorail from MK back to the Ticket & Transportation Center (TTC). Transfer to the monorail that will take you from TTC to EPCOT. It's maybe a 15 minute ride. Just guessing on the time --- someone else may know more precisely.

If you have small children, you might want to allow more time. But I would probably aim to get on the monorail at MK by around 7:30PM.

You might or might not have to wait a few minutes at the MK station. Then a 5 minute ride to the TTC. Get off the monorail, walk down a ramp and back up another ramp. Then you might or might not have to wait for an EPCOT monorail. Upon disembarking at the EPCOT station, you will have to walk to the entrance and to go thru the turnstiles to enter the park (might or might not be a line). Then it will be a pretty good walk back to Le Cellier -- I'd say at least 20 minutes.

If you have slow walkers (either very young or very old or special needs or otherwise unable to go quickly), maybe allow even a little more time.

I'd vote for the cab. It's your first night there and you don't want to be all stressed out on the first night figuring how to get to dinner. If you take a cab you can go to Boardwalk/Beach Club area and enter Epcot right in World Showcase. The walk from Future World to World Showcase is a killer! And it would bum me out to have to high tail it straight to Le Cellier without getting a moment to take it all in as I stroll along.

Just my opinoin! You can certainly make it work either way.

Good luck and have a great trip!

I very very respectfully disagree with your opinion. It's all good, and it's all just opinions, but please let me explain why I see things differently.

When you leave Magic Kingdom, there are no taxis available right there. The taxis are at the Transportation & Ticket Center (TTC). In order to get from MK to the TTC, you have to take a monorail or ferry.

Okay, so now you're at the TTC. Yes, you can walk pretty much a straight line down from the monorail platform, past the ticket booths and look for a taxi to drive you to the Boardwalk area.

But since you're already at TTC anyway, I'd suggest you just walk to the other monorail platform and take the monorail to Epcot (to get from MK to Epcot you must take 2 separate monorail trains). Yes, you might have to wait for the monorail for maybe 5 minutes or so. But once you get on, it is a direct shot to Epcot. No possibility of traffic tie-ups. No possibility of other sorts of delays. But yes, once you arrive at Epcot you'll have a decent walk back to Le Cellier.

But like I said, since you'll have to get to the TTC anyway, from that spot, I'd choose monorail over taxi any day.

If this was a bus route from one park to another,. I'd certainly vote for the taxi, since they both have to drive on the surface streets and you would likely leave in a taxi before a us would even arrive to pick you up.

Thanks for the info. and input! Point is well taken about having to take a monorail ride to get to a taxi. At the end of the day we will probably monorail because we haven't been since 2002 and I don't think we took the monorail then. We were in FW cabin and used ferries and car. Kids will probably see mono as an adventure!!! Again, thanks for the help.

Agree you should take the monorail. Especially since it is your first day, your kids will be excited to ride it.

Even if you did take a taxi to the Boardwalk and entered the International Gateway, you would still have a walk as it is a bit of a hike to get from the front of the resort to the entrance of Epcot ... then Canada is near the front of the World Showcase. I think your "walk" will be about the same from either direction.

Have fun and save the taxi fare for something else!

I agree 100% with everything you said.

Nobody asked me :( but the most efficient route is probably to just take a bus from right outside Magic Kingdom, to the Beach Club - then walk to and enter through the International Gateway.

You get my vote!

This saves a lot of potential waiting for each monorail. This also eliminates the VERY long walk from the main Epcot entrance to World Showcase. By entering via the International Gateway all they have to do is stay to the left as Canada comes up pretty quickly.

The Beach Club is a good idea but distance wise it's probably about the same. From the bus stop at the BC, across the BC grounds to the International Gateway to Canada is probably about the same as from the monorail station at Epcot to Canada.

According to my favorite runners website (www.usatf.org), DebbieB is the more accurate here.

You can click on the icon for "America's Running Routes," then choose "create a route," then zoom in on Florida, and so on.

The problem is, I've only been to Beach Club once, so I'm not an expert on the most efficient walking route, so I admit I could be off by a few ticks.

But according to what I mapped out on the satellite photos, the walk from the bus drop-off area at Beach Club to Canada is 0.50 miles. And the walk from the monorail platform to Canada is 0.46 miles. Oooooh, so close.
