Has anyone heard if there is (or ever was) the possibility that WDW would allow the OLD Management to take back over the Enchanted Tiki Room? My wife and I loved the old one, but really don't care for the "Under new Management" version. I was fortunate to be able to go to Disneyland last year and see the original, and when we went back to the World this year I was further disappointed with their version. (My wife didn't get to go to DL with me, so she's jealous that I got to see it and not her - not to mention Mr. Toad's Wild Ride!):rolleyes1

Ahhhhhhh - I would vote a big thumbs up for the original.

I wonder how many people see the newer version. How popular is it in California?

Ugh...don't get me started on the Tiki Room. (Or Tropical Senerade, anyone?) Second least favorite thing Disney ever did...#1 being the closure of the Adventurer's Club. Tiki Room was my very favorite thing from childhood - and it really irked me that they not only put screaching Iago in there - they had the gall to make the NEW show INSULT the old show. In addition the show is very dated now in my view (with characters and music from the '90s) whereas the old show was kind of timeless, or at least of a vague, older time.

That said, realizing that the alternative was they were going to remove it completely, I would begrudgingly say I would rather they have SOME Tiki show. And it has a few charms to it which I have learned to enjoy after a few viewings besides the first 90 seconds, there are a couple of subtle references throughout the show to the old show. And I kind of like the Tiki Goddess...but maybe just because she blows up Iago. I have told my wife that at some point we will be going to DL JUST to see the original show...just waiting for DD to be old enough to try all the rides. (2-3 more years perhaps?) (I am nervous that my DD is becoming a New tiki-room child - we have CDs that have both the old song, and the "friend like me" Iago song - and she prefers Iago! Ugh!)

But to get back to the OP question: this is a rumor that seems to float through every 6 months or so. I have even seen it posted in more reputable locations than here. However, i think the chances of it happening are very low. Even though the new show is probably no more or less popular than the old show. (The old show had it's fans - but was never a big draw.) However, I'm sure it is an expensive proposition to re-engineer the show - and to go back to something that wasn't all that popular...I fear that there would be a better chance of it closing for good.

However, any time you submit a survey or complaint to WDW, make sure to add at the bottom..."And bring back the original Tiki Room." We do that on any survey we fill out!

P.S. ...I said don't get me started...but I guess you did.

I totally agree with all of you. I don't even bother going to the current version with Iago. It's so numbing and disagreeable. I do not enjoy the screaming and ranting. The old version was so classic and timeless. I wish they would bring it back.

"Where the birds sing words and the flowers croon, in the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki room!"
Thank the Good Lord for recordings! My Momma took me to MK two weeks after the park opened in '71 (we lived in Daytona at the time) and I remember the Tiki room and one other thing - Pooh stepped on my foot and made my big toe turn black (I was five at the time) and it's taken 35 years for me to forgive Pooh for that, but I'm over it now.
I was very happy to ride Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, though. It was very memorable, and I didn't realize back then that I was going to Hell on a Disney ride!:scared1:

You guys do realize that Disney does NOT change things back to the way they "used" to be. If they did, I would hope that they would bring the original Imagination ride back. But it ain't gonna happen folks..........

Your probably right... but I definately would vote for Tiki Room 3.0

Not that I think Disney is going back - but re-doing the Imagination ride would be a *huge* expense...the Tiki Birds not so much - the room itself is basically the same as it ever was. They obviously still have the soundtrack, as it still plays over in DL. So the cost would be pretty minimal. In fact, that's probably why the rumor occasionally surfaces - it would not be hard to do.

Just like it wouldn't be hard to re-open the AC. But neither will happen.

While I understand that WDW thinks it must stay current with the times, some DISNEY things ARE timeless! And they don't seem to always know the difference. Not every WDW attraction has to become snarky & snide to be a hit with their guests!!!

So, yes, bring back the original. Til then, thank goodness for DISRADIO, LIVE365 radio stations & the others that still play the old stuff!!!!:flower3:

I would also love if they went back to the original show. I've always thought they could set it up to do both -- maybe alternate back and forth between shows. Why not?

And as for mitros' contention that Disney never changes things back to the way they used to be... If they got rid of that giant Mickey hand towering over Spaceship Earth, then all things are possible!

Ugh! Do not get me started on the "new" tiki room. The old version was one of my favorite attractions as a child. I really thought those birds were real! :rotfl2: The addition of Iago was a horrible change! I would love to see the original brought back. Does anyone have a petition I can sign?!

DH and I have been fortunate enough to see the original IN DL. I was thrilled to see my birds croon their way through their whole show, although DH said, "This was your favorite?! You liked it more than Spaceship Earth?!" :rotfl:

Check out one of my shirts that I made for my trip last year (the top shirt)...The CMs in the area LOVED it!

Not the same thing. They did not "bring back" SSE they just added the wand then removed it.

I grew up with the old version having lived near Orlando we made plenty of trips to WDW. But I don’t know about it being timeless to me it was more dated for my parents. The heady days of WWII the musical South Pacific and drinking Myties. Gilbert Godfree (sorry about the spelling) is a love hate comedian and I kind of like him. I loved the movie and even if its dated now the new management reminds me of the movie and the original foot print reminds me of my mom and dad who loved the old show. I don’t see them changing back the show. its not a main liner anymore and I bet one day we will loose it like many of the others.
Every trip I make a pilgrimage to Poo’s play house and touch the Nautilus imprinted into the tree. I miss the show that I grew up loving. I hope with the new 20,000 leagues that maybe they will bring the Sub back. But in my heart I know its unlikely.
I wish I could find a web site dedicated to the old rides and shows. I’m 50 going on 12 it would be nice to turn back the pages even if they are just on the web.

One word...YES!!! Journey Into the Imagination was awesome turned to garbage. If only Epcot can be reborn to its golden age self that made it its own original, one of a kind, like no other theme park. Ah, memories...

There used to be a site called Extinct Attractions Club, not sure if it is still running. Also, listen to Disney Subsonic Radio. Check out the background music...very cool! Also, you can go to youtube.com and there are many videos of old attractions. There is a really good Horizons one that I visit from time to time. It's called Horizons true to ride tribute. I, like you, get very nostalgic for the old times.

Not to turn this thread off-topic, but it is interesting how different people feel differently about rides.

Whereas the change to the Tiki Room is considered atrocious by many (including me), there are also people out there that like the new one better.

For me, when it comes to Epcot, I don't think there is a change that has been made there that isn't for the better.

World of Motion vs Test Track: TT hands down.
Horizons vs Mission Space: What was so great about Horizons? Back then all the rides were the same.
Journey to the Imagination: OK, I'll admit the original was better than what's there now, but the original was never that great either...I don't quite understand the appeal.
Nemo vs original seas ride: At first I thought it was kind of disappointing, but I think Nemo is a great little dark ride in the tradition of Peter Pan and Snow White. I have no memory of the original ride, which is how un-impressive it was.
The only change I really decry there is the closure of Wonders of Life...that had several great attractions (Body Wars / Making of Me) and is now just an empty shell. As this was not an "Original" Epcot attraction, maybe this doesn't count.

Overall, Epcot has become a little less educational, but a hell of a lot more entertaining. Again, I don't think the fact that Disney changes things is a bad thing. Just the Tiki Birds were made over so much worse...I think that makes it more painful that it is still there. Probably why Journey to the Imagination is so upsetting to people...the rides still there - just different and worse. This happens at times...another good example was the old Mission to Mars...was made over once to the ExtraTerrorestrial Encounter...which was great but scared the c**p out of too many kids...so they dumbed it down to Stich's Escape and now its just unpleasant.

On the other hand, while many people miss 20,000 leagues...the feelings don't seem as strong, as it is completely gone...there's no turning back, leaving it hard to remain to angry. It was much more painful when I took DW for the first time in 1997, and you could still see the lagoon there. I was sooo bummed at the time. Now, with it completely gone, it is much easier not to miss it as much. (Though the time gone by may help as well..having not ridden this ride since I was 10.)

The Tiki Room is not JUST a function of childhood memory to me. In 1997, the original version was still in place on my first trip with DW. It's charm still had a hold on me and DW liked it a lot as well. She also agrees that "New Management" is horrible, and she has no sentimental attachment to the original, having only seen it once. (Actually, I think we went twice.)

I apoligize for going slightly OT, but thread was going there anyways...I hope I brought it back around.:goodvibes

I love Yesterdayland (mostly focuses on Disney Land, but has a full section on Disney World).

First post by the way!

I like the changes they made in the area where you wait....as for the inside, I DO find Iago annoying. And I noticed last year that it really smells quite dusty/musty. Doesnt matter to me, though. Its just not MK if you dont go to the Tiki Room, Jungle Cruise, and Pirates!

As for the old submarine ride....man, that ride scared the bee-jee-bus out of me when I rode it as a kid...I though we were all going to drown and die in that thing! Now I know you only went a couple of feet underwater, but still I was petrified of that thing! lol!
