MK Monday vs Tuesday

We are traveling next week to WDW and were originally planning on doing MK on Monday and Epcot on Tuesday. But the wait times this week are making me rethink this plan and switching days. We aren't doing park hoppers so it's one park a day. Opinons?? I will add I have an ADR for Monday at BOG I would loose by switching days...

I would never do MK on a Monday again (unless I had my first ever BOG reservation) there

I love BOG and it was a must do for me last year being my first trip since new Fantasyland was built.

It's a tough call.

Magic Kingdom tends to be busiest on Mondays (and towards the beginning of a week) because everyone starts there. You may want to rethink your strategy, but the wait times aren't too terrible.

I don't always go on reccommended days. But I do read the day's explanation on EasyWDW and then make an informed decision for my family.
A BOG reservation is enough reason to go.

We are planning on using the mornings extra magic hours. It's also DH's first trip and also first trip for our kids which is one of the reasons we kind of played into the MK first day thing haha.

If you would use EMH, then I would keep it as is. We get so much done during MK EMH. If you would not use it, then I would consider changing it. Also consider that most offsite guests will avoid Monday morning like the plague, so your crowds will not necessarily be higher early on. Altho there will be more resort guests there for the Extra Magic Hour, offsite guests will avoid this morning because they will have no chance of getting much done at rope drop. Given your BOG ressie, that is is two marks in favor of keeping it as is from my POV. Also Tuesday the 6th is a short day. You'll have like 9am-4pm and then it'll get crowded w party-goers, and then you'll have a hard cutoff at 7pm. I'd keep Monday. Have fun!!

I'd switch them around. MK is going to be super busy Monday. Epcot is going to be super busy Tuesday. You're in for two really, really busy days and with these being first trips for your husband and kids, I think that you're setting them up to hate Disney because it's too crowded. Sorry!

Moderately busy.

The park with EMH will be noticeably busier than the parks without it. After about 11:00 am, lines will be pretty long. Waiting 1 hour+ for headliners is certainly a possibility.

If you don't want to change your days, I really do recommend upgrading to park hoppers.

We moved to FL this summer and immediately got AP for the family. We went and it was hot and crowded - a far cry from our last visit in November 2010. But...we still had fun and planned accordingly.

If you don't upgrade to PH, it sounds like Monday is YOUR best MK day - longer hours and a coveted ADR!

Use EMH to hit the headliners...work hard to GET THERE EARLY! Also, plan your 3 FP+. You'll be guaranteed a walk-on to 3 rides YOUR family wants to ride!

When it gets busy, hit up less crowded attractions. Chances are, they will still be fun for your first time family! Try Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse or Tom Sawyer Island. Or, head back to the hotel for an afternoon swim/break and then return in the evening for a new park perspective with the lights on, pumpkins glowing and nighttime shows.

Enjoy the atmosphere and take in the little details along with the actual "rides."

I think that for you, given you have BOG and no hoppers, it seems that Monday is your best day. I generally avoid the MK on Mondays, and go on Tuesday. I know all about how the MK should be the first park but I have neve fouund that it hurt my family to hit DHS or AK first.

I do suggest that you arrive early and use the EMH becuase Mondays tend to be busy.

Depends on a couple of things: are you planning on rope drop, or staying late, watching fireworks, going to MNSSHP, age of kids, how long is your trip, if you'll have other days at the parks, etc. Monday will be busy with resort guests in morning because of EMH, and busy during the day with onsite and offsite guests because it's Monday, and busy at night because with so many parties there are only three nights per week for people who aren't going to MNSSHP to see Wishes. MK will be much less busy Tuesday morning, but will start to get more busy when MNSSHP guests start showing up around 4pm. I'm usually less worried about Epcot crowds, fewer rides and it's easy to do just about everything in Future World.

I'd say if you are morning people, and have no problem getting to the park before 8am for EMH rope drop, you can certainly do MK Monday and Epcot Tuesday. But after 10:30am or so, lines will be much longer than if you swapped your park days, but that would mean losing your BOG ADR and not getting a full day at MK Tuesday.

With park hoppers you have many more options. For example, could do Epcot Monday morning without FP, then hop to MK Monday evening with 3 FP+ and to see Wishes. Then MK Tuesday morning and hop to Epcot when party guests start arriving. Or the opposite: MK EMH Monday morning, then hop elsewhere when it gets crowded.

We like to hop into the park that had morning EMH because the crowd tends to drop dramatically later at night as the early risers get tired and head back to the resorts. Here's just a sample of what we were able to accomplish on a Monday evening earlier this summer from 8 pm until midnight. It was a crowd level 8 day, but we found bumper to bumper traffic leaving the park when we arrived:

Mine Train (10 min wait right a closing time)

Haunted Mansion

We also watched the parade and fireworks and had a couple of Dole Whips.

Now if you aren't adding the hoppers, I would swap MK to Tuesday as that place could be busier than you can imagine on Monday morning and afternoon.

During "party season" any day that does not have a scheduled MNSSHP is going to be busy (Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday) because they are the only days that guests can see Main Street Electrical Parade, Wishes, and Celebrate the Magic if they are not planning on attending any parties (Celebrate the Magic and Hallowishes happen at the Halloween Party -- MSEP is only on non-party nights). If you are wanting to see any of those non-party night shows, then you will want to do Magic Kingdom that Monday. If you are also going to be at WDW the Wednesday of that week, it may tend to be a little less busy than Monday or Saturday. In my experience you can get just as much done between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. at the Magic Kingdom on a party night because the crowds are lower as you can spending all day there on a non-party night that is busy.

Another option if you have park-hoppers might be to spend the day at Epcot on Monday and hop over to MK that night just for the night time entertainment and then spend the next day at MK -- assuming you don't want to see Illuminations at Epcot, which would change that plan. I like to use Josh's advice over at EasyWDW.com to help me choose which park to attend the days that I am there. He offers a crowd calendar as well as written advice per day as to why he's suggested the parks he's suggested. Good luck making your plans!!

Next Monday, MK will be open until midnight with parades at 9 & 11 pm and Wishes at 10. These are identical to mid-summer hours but at only a crowd level 5. Attraction lines will start getting shorter around 8:30 as the crowd starts lining up for the early parade. The park will be nearly deserted after the fireworks as guests who got there early and stayed for the shows will be exhausted. It's a perfect time to hit the headliners over and over and over...

I think tuesday is a MNSSHP evening meaning you'll have to leave by 7pm if you don't have a party ticket. your probably better braving the crowds on monday to get a full day there.
