We are 30 days out:banana: and I am trying to make a decision about our lunch on Day 2 at MK. We are having lunch at BOG Day 1, but I thought it would be fun (and a nice change) to have lunch at one of the resorts, other than the one we are staying at (Pop). Was considering Contemporary. Would like it to be a resort that has a QS. Since this isn't something we normally do, I really need advice!

When we were in the MK recently, we took the monorail to the Contemporary and ate at Contempo Cafe (QS). It was really nice to get out of the crowded park and take a little break. It was not crowded at all, and the food was pretty good. I would definitely recommend it. Every place in the park had a huge line. It was a good recharge for the kids to get a break from the crowds and relax a little.

For QS, there's Gasparilla Island Grill at the Grand Floridian and Captain Cook's at the Poly

Polynesian is my favorite resort at Disney just because of the theming, so I would want to go there, personally. Captain Cooks can be fun and I just love the tropical atmosphere. If you have your heart set on Contemporary, Contempo Cafe can be fun with the monorail passing overhead.

I am not sure I would recommend Captain Cooks with all the construction. They are set up in a temporary location but I don't think the Poly during construction will provide as much of a relaxation break.

I was actually just coming back to amend my post about the construction at Poly. I agree, it may not be ideal. I'd go to GF or CR instead.

You could also take the boat to Wilderness Lodge. The boat ride is relaxing and a change of pace that the kids might enjoy.
I believe Roaring Forks is the QS option at Wilderness Lodge. My kids enjoyed it for breakfast and dinner, though I can't speak to lunch.
Just a thought!

I agree with taking the boat to Wilderness Lodge -- since Poly is under construction. They also have a fun sit down place at WL, Whispering Canyon. Their QS Roaring Forks isn't my favorite but the theming of the resort would be worth the trip over.

Contempo Cafe is a great choice. They have some variations of food offering (love the grilled mahi mahi sandwich for lunch, pot roast for dinner was surprisingly tender and tasty as well), it's quick to get to from MK, and the kids get excited to see the monorail go by.

At least one of our MK days we take the monorail to the Poly and have an aloha pulled pork sandwich at Captain Cook's. It is currently relocated/under construction but I'm still going when I'm there in June. It wouldn't be a trip to Disney for me without that sandwich!

Yeah, I didn't think about that.

I think Contempo Cafe has some of the best CS food on property and the cupcakes are my absolute favorite of any at WDW!

I wouldn't do Contempo (QS at CR) between approx. 1pm and 5pm because it is right next to (but blocked from viewing from a tall wall) Chef Mickey's. Huge sign says it and the music will be going. If your kids are like mine, they will hear (and see a tiny bit from monorail stop) Chef Mickey's... and beg to go... and there won't be available seats, and it costs alot and is loud (but we go because DS loves it!).

I 2nd PP who suggested Wilderness Lodge. Calm boat ride, calm meal.

We love the Contempo Cafe. However, I'd choose Columbia Harbor House in Liberty Square over the Contempo Cafe for lunch. CHH has an upstairs that is usually fairly empty and quiet. It gives a nice little break from the hectic pace of the park.

Boat ride to Wilderness lodge is the way to go. It is relaxing and peaceful and WL has a great atmoshpere.

If you are willin to go to a TS option the boat ride over to FW Camground and eat at Trails End can be a great choice. Again very relaxing, good atmosphere and the food is pretty good.

Its been a few years but we always loved the boat ride to Fort Wilderness and then hitting the trails end buffet (think that was the name), good home style food and all you can eat, there was a playground right there where the kids could blow off some steam without lines and waits and was a very pleasant break in a MK day.

I know it's far but The Mara at animal kingdom is y favorite quick service on site and wandering the resort is stunning. Its the only resort that's taken my breath away and I have visited most.

-Columbia Harbor House inside MK has great food.
-I'm also on-board with Contempo Cafe - really quick from MK; heck, you're probably quicker to walk there than taking the monorail.
-Roaring Forks as WL is great too and their TS meal @ Whispering Canyon Cafe has awesome lunch as well.

If you're leaving MK for lunch be sure to give yourselves a couple hours for the round trip.

Thanks for the suggestions!! We will be eating at Columbia Harbour House for one of our evening meals, as that is DH's all time fave. Now to decide between Contempo & WL... :)
