MK from BWV - Will This Work?

Chadm,

We usually use the monorail for transportation once or twice while staying in the EPCOT area because the kids enjoy it, not because it is faster! During our last trip we used it to get home from the MK and we got to sit up front. When we got to Epcot we hit a few rides on our way back to our room. This can work great because in the afternoon/evening lots of people have moved towards WS. We were able to get right on most of the EPCOT rides (except TT - broke again!) We have also used this when MK closes early but EPCOT is still open.

We have also gone this way if we were heading to one of the monorail resorts for dinner. We hit a few rides in EPCOT, get on the monorail, and eat at the resort. Yes, it takes longer but we enjoy the monorail and walking thru EPCOT.

I would give this a try!

That actually sounds like fun. We have also taken the monorail from MK to Epcot while Epcot was still open so we could walk through and do a few things on our way back to the resort.

We usually try to schedule meals at monorail resorts on days that we visit MK for convenience. However, if the weather was right and we weren't in a hurry, taking the Epcot route could be enjoyable.

I don't want anybody to get the wrong idea about what I'm trying to say. I'm only saying that walking through Epcot or to MGM strictly in order to avoid the BWV bus and get somewhere faster is a bad idea. That's all. Nothing against the monorail.

Yes, you are wrong. I have stayed many times in every WDW resort but GF. I am one of those people that does a "disservice" to DVC members everywhere and avoids the DVC high pt Fri & Sat nights, so we stay those nights at all different WDW resorts. Since this past December (Christmas time) I have stayed at: BWV, CSR, BWI, Poly, YC, BC, CBR and ASMu and will soon be at BCV in 34 days for my first stay at this resort.
So, I am very familiar with and have had recent experiences with a fair share of different WDW resort's transportation systems.

Since you've stayed at CSR, ASMu, etc., do you think my theory about having to go out on the main roads and dealing with traffic & stop lights, etc. to get from Swan, then Dolphin, then YC, then BC, etc. would take longer than driving around in one resort area. I'm thinking that is the difference. Any thoughts?

Oh, and:

Me too.;)

No, it would not be faster to go through Epcot. I personally had no complaints about bus service during my stay at BWV. Hopefully you will have the same experience! Have a great trip!

Going to MK from BWV is not bad- it is a straight shot with no stops. It's the ride home that can be long, because it is the last stop. (BCV is the second to the last stop, no?)

I would agree that usually it would take longer to walk through Epcot, catch the monorail to the TTC, then take the TTC monorail to MK than to wait for the bus.

That being said, I still do not like the bus service at the Epcot resorts. The only long waits and painfully packed bus trips we have ever had have been when we have stayed at BW or BC, and unfortunately there have been several of those. IMO, it is just too long a route with too many stops. The WORST bus trip on property must be the one from DTD to the Beach Club. I think we could have walked it faster and more pleasantly.

I like the Beach Club and Boardwalk resorts and how close they are to Epcot, but the trade off in access to other parks is significant in my experience.

One way to avoid this is to get off at the Swan and walk over to the BWV. It is a very short, pleasant walk especially if your room is close to the Boardwalk or Luna Park pool area. We did this several times last trip and it was nice.

I'm another poster who has complained about BWV bus service - not because it is completely unbearable and/or unusable, or to make others crazy with worry over what I have experienced - but because I think that Disney could do much better in serving their guests by splitting the run in two - 3 resorts each instead of 6 - and I hope that someday they will do just that!
That said - the bus service, in my experience, may be slow and annoying, but is not soooo bad that I don't use it (except to DTD - I drive there).
Remember that taking the bus to MK places you on the far side of TTC, right at the entrance to MK - the time it takes to stop at the other resorts in no way compares to the time and inconvenience of dealing with TTC (IMHO). So many variables will affect your experience with the buses at any resort - time of year, time of day, grouchy bus driver:( - everyone will have their own experience/reaction at any given time. Give it a try your first few days and, if you are experiencing full buses passing you by, complain and go to your alternative plan - Good luck and Enjoy!

I think the BWV bus service in the morning is more frequent and the driver can radio for another bus if there are too many people at the stop. I've only had problems later in the day (to DTD.)

On the way back, I like to take the boat or monorail from the MK, go to the Poly for the Kona Cafe STICKY WINGS (YYYYYYUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMM!!) and a little rest, then leisurely stroll through Epcot (a pint at the Rose and Crown, perhaps?)and stay there or go back to BWV via the Friendships.

The most important part of this itinerary is that it includes Sticky Wings!!! (Of course, if you take the Monorail in the morning, you could stop at the Poly for TONGA TOAST!!!!!!! OOOOH, even better with a press pot of 100% Kona coffee!!Can you tell I'm a huge Kona Cafe fan;)

Good luck. Good eating.

Renee

I get off the bus from MK at the Swan too.

I noticed that when I stayed at the swan the bus service was about the same ask BVW, funny. I wonder if BCV will get the same bus posts here as BWV? It is the same bus route isn't it.

I like BWV cause I don't need a bus, or a boat of a Monorail to get to half the parks. I walk to MGM & Epcot. So net net I figure I spend less bus time than most of the other places I have stayed.

Now these sticky wings, reneesam speaks of, sound like a good idea bus, boat or monorail.

As for the rest of the my resort is better than yours - more power to ya, I figure the more people who prefer other places the easier it will be for me to get a reservation at BWV. ;)

I sincerely hope that every single person who has had a bad experience with BWV bus service took the time to tell BWV management about it - either in person or by letter/email. I hope they told them every time something unacceptable happened. It does no good at all to just post on the internet. If enough guests complain (politely, of course), something will be done.

Disney Transportation/BWV Resort Management does not believe there is a problem. I base this on several posts by a very knowledgable Disney bus driver over on the Transportation Forum.

FWIW, I have stayed at the BWV 5 times (off season and President's Day week) and have yet to experience an unreasonable wait or a too crowded bus. Perhaps the problems are limited to certain times of the day.

Disney can't fix something without lots of data. Those who have it, please SHARE IT WITH THE APPROPRIATE DISNEY EMPLOYEES.

Off the soap box. :D

We did the bus thing for 2 trips, then one trip we rented a car.
Now we are hooked.
No more shuttle from the airport, no more waiting for buses, or just missing the bus.
It does add dollars, but I'm on vacation and I've earned it.
It really does give you many more options.
Maybe I should shut up, just imagine the traffic if everyone stopped using the buses and rented cars:eek:
