I am taking family of 5 to Disney World 11/29/2014 through 12/4/2014 (6 Day 5 Night). This is our first trip.

I had hoped free dining would be an option however not offered at POR and not during my visit time.

This makes MVMCP too expensive for my family to attend. I am planning to do the following schedule.

Sat - Arrive/Epcot
Sun - Hollywood Studios (MVMCP night at MK)
Mon - Magic Kingdom Full Day
Tue - Epcot / DD Full Day (MVMCP night at MK)
Wed - Magic Kingdom Full Day
Thur - Animal Kingdom / Leave

My main question is how is MK different during those evenings where MVMCP is not going on... I thought I read that Wishes is either NOT shown that evening or is regular wishes without Christmas content? what are typical closure times on those nights, etc.

Thanks in adv.

It is regular Wishes on non party nights. I would say somewhere around 9:30-10, but you would have to check the calendar. Be aware that non Christmas party days at MK are much more crowded than days of the party because lots of people don't want to "waste" a MK day when they have to leave at 7:00.

2 years ago MK closed at 8 on non-party nights, and wishes was also at 8. Last year it was 9. The exception was Sunday in 2012 and Saturday in 2013 when it would close at 10.

MK will likely be crowded on Non-Party nights with everyone trying to get fireworks in that haven't been available on party nights.

Have you considered other moderate resorts for your trip? Since you were hoping for free dining but POR is already booked, would you switch. I know that there is debate about FREE dining being FREE but it depends on how you look at it. Why not call and speak to a disney rep to see if there is any availability during your trip at another resort? It might be worth it.

Can't switch. (Family of 5) and dates in stone. (not during free dining)

Would you consider doing one MK day that is on a party day and just leaving at 7? In my experience, there really is a HUGE difference in crowd level!

Maybe... didn't get park hopper so choices would be back to hotel or DD? Might think about that some.

I would switch your EP/DTD with a MK/DTD and do one MK day on a party day. You'll want a full day at EP to catch the storytellers in the countries AND there's a Christmas tag on Illuminations.

I agree. and if wishes is a MUST use monorail to one of the resorts and watch it from there.
Actually leave about 5pm coz the park will start getting crowded-- give those kids a nap then head back to watch the wishes from a resort
