Hi -

Here are my questions -

We'll be at WDW in late April/early May. I saw that MK closes at 7 but they have the Fantasy in the Sky still planned for 9:30. Is this possible? Do you really hang around MK for 2.5 hours after it closes? Perhaps they just haven't changed their schedule to reflect the earlier closing times? Do they hold it when the parks close that early?

Thanks for the help :)

No, if the park closes at 7 there will not be fireworks.:(
They just recently changed the hours for April and May and it must be they just forgot to delete that.

We are going April 23 - 30 and the changes dramatically affected out plans.:(
While we are there, they will only have one showing of Spectro Magic and one of the fireworks.
April 25, 26 and May 4 and 5th are Grad nights, so that affects the closing time too.

I hightly doubt you will get a chance to see the fireworks at MK, unless they add them to Sunday May 4th. But they cancelled them for Sunday April 27th. Same with the Spectro Magic parade.

Sorry if you were planning on seeing them.
Looks like I will be changing our plans, PS, etc. too.:(

For the 25-26th of April they used to list it as closing at 8:30pm and having the FITS Fireworks, now they bumped it back to 7:00pm closing.....

But..... There are still Grad nights on those dates. I'm sure Disney hasn't decided to give those grads more free time in the parks, instead I think we are seeing a carefully orchestrated plan to encourage travellers, you arrive with low expectations and find out that the hours have been increased back to regular times.

It seems foolish that they would close the MK at 7:00 and then wait for an hour and a half, with no one there, to open it again. I am convinced that when I arrive the schedule will say it is open until 8:30pm.

As a business Disney is preparing its travellers for the worst case scenario. They post hours that have been cut back to times that are the minimum for that period so that people aren't disappointed at the last minute. Instead we are given the old hours, upon arrival, but feel happy that they are apparently open longer.

Matty_Disfan- do you think there is any chance they would also reinstate the Spectromagic parade originally planned for Sunday April 27th?????

I'm not Matty_Disfan- but personally I doubt they would reinstate anything they have canceled. I think it is a major decision to make a change once a schedule is posted.

According to the disney website, under park hours, the MK closes at 7 and the fireworks are at 7:15 (click on events and entertainment on the park calendar). I thought this was strange as it would be light out. We are going March 31-April 6 and are very much hoping that we will find that the hours are longer when we arrive.
Have a great trip no matter what the hours!:)

We have gone many different times of the year and have found that they will increase the hours if needed. As the crowds grow they will extend the hours, they have even added fireworks before. I am not saying they will do this every time, but we have seen it several times. :bounce:

We just got back. Unless A LOT more people go in the next few weeks they are justified in cutting the hours to reflect lower attendance.

We went last year the same week. The MK closed to non resort guests around noon several days and the water parks were closed to anyone before the first bus came to the hotel to pick up guests.

This trip the longest wait was about 20 minutes. The one open water park never closed, in fact the parking lot for Typhoon Lagoon never even made it to half full.

We never used fast pass because the stand by lines were all 20 minutes or less.

You did not need PS to eat at any restaurant we tried to eat at. You could walk up at 7:00pm and be seated in under 5 minutes. This includes any of the character meals we ate at.

At the last minute we added on one day to the front of the trip. When I called CRO to ask what hotels may have availability they replied all. It appeared even with one of the buildings closed at the Poly for rehab they were not even close to full. We checked in at 10:30am and were taken directly to our room. They had so many rooms vacant from the night before everyone was being taken directly to their room.

Of course while we were there they still did fireworks every night but the time has not changed yet so 7:15pm was dark enough.
