I, er, high resolution scanned my proofs. To be fair (and yes, I still know it was
wrong) I'm not using them for anything until the three year mark when I can buy the high res CD for a reasonable price. Then I'll edit
those and use them for printing and albums.
I did most of my editing using a program called Picassa. It's available free on Google and it's a lovely little program for quick edits. It will allows you to do all the basic edits (crop, rotate) as well as adjust the fill light, color saturation, highlights and shadows, color temperature, etc.. There are also filters you can use to add grain, glow, warmify, b&w, sepia, soft focus, and a few others. They are all set up so you can manually control the levels of everything.
I still bring out Photoshop for major editing but it's pretty over powered for most things, so I use Picassa the majority of the time.
