Mixology or Chocolate and Liquor?

Have a solo booked in near future on the Dream. I've booked both Mixology and Chocolate and Liquor BUT there's only an hour in-between. I think I'd better just do one. :headache::crazy2: Only, which?

Would love to hear thoughts from others. A bit about my tastes - I don't like sweet drinks. I'm a gin and tonic, vodka and limeade, bourbon and ginger beer kinda girl. I also don't care much for sweet chocolate - the darker, the better! I do love a Grand Marnier on the rocks as a nightcap, but otherwise don't drink a lot of liqueurs.

I am open to trying things, and if I could space them out more, I'd do both. But I am hoping to make the show that night, so probably need to do just one!

Mixology for me was a mix of sweet and not-sweet drinks. When I did it in January, it was held at Skyline by the same guy who did the Martini tasting, so there was a little overlap. I enjoyed it. I think it was 5 mini drinks.

Definitely just do 1 in a day. I did them on 2 different days on the Fantasy in June. Mixology depends upon the bartender, but half the drinks were sweet. Our first drink was way too strong for me though. I think the chocolate tasting is less sweet. Check out the bottles below to see what my tasting had.

Mixology, plus a final very sweet shot

"Chocolate and Liquor" is really 'Chocolate and champagne, red wine, port, and scotch', as PP's pictures show. I was expecting liqueurs, that is definitely not the case. That said, I really enjoy that tasting. Be prepared though that a lot of the chocolate itself is quite sweet. They do also include a wedge of parmesan which breaks up the sweetness some, but most of the chocolate is on the sweeter side.

Mixology is so different depending on who's running it, but you can assume at least a couple of the drinks will be on the sweet side. I've had some classes where I liked most of the drinks (though I am a sweet drink person), some classes where there were some really bizarre drinks that I didn't think worked very well.

Up to you what you think sounds more appealing. Or you could just do both and have a really swell day ;)

Here are two photos from different Mixology classes on different ships:

I haven’t done chocolate yet but I did do mixology. I don’t like super sweet drinks either, and mixology was VERY sweet, everything was fruity or chocolatey. At the time I enjoyed the interactivity of it because they let the guests mix a drink but the lemon drop was the only drink I actually finished (still sweet, but the tartness cut the sugar a bit). The rest was basically kool aid for grown up.

And it was only $25 when I went versus $45 now. After the recent price hikes for tastings I honestly don’t understand why anyone goes to these any more. $45 will buy you four mixed drinks of your choosing at most DCL bars. You can make your own “tasting” of things you actually enjoy.

Mixology varies I think depending on the person leading it. We have done the chocolate one 3 times and it is always the same and AMAZING! Highly recommend.

Here’s plan C
Go to both.

Take a few sips of each during early tasting demonstrations finish a few drinks but bring 2 full drinks back to the room. Attend later tasting bring 1 or 2 back to the room. Finish them as you wish later.

I always walk out with a drink or two anyway. I’m a slow drinker and I sometimes like to think of the flavors to see if I would like to have them again.

Love all the feedback, thanks!!

While Plan C sounds intriguing and I've pondered the option, I'm leaning towards cancelling mixology. Many reviews talk about sweet drinks, and I'm just not into it. With choco/liquor, I can always skip the chocolate if it's too sweet and just enjoy the booze. I've also got Palo brunch that morning, so a longer break between that and choco/liquor sounds good.

I'm so looking forward to this cruise, I know I can't really go wrong!!

We had a good time at mixology because we got to taste drinks we never would have.

However, our favorite is "Chocolate and Liquor". Port + park cheese is my favorite.

I'm not a drinker, and we've done both. Mixology was fun the first time. the chocolate and liquor was the best we have ever done. That is the only one we continue to book now.

We have done both and I preferred Mixology. However, we did that before covid and we made drinks which made it fun.

I agree with most here, Mixology is hit or miss. We've done it a few times. But the chocolate one is the one we tell everyone about. It is very interesting and you learn a lot. Prepare to be amazed!

Chocolate and Liquor is my absolute favorite. You will love it. Mixology can really vary based on the drinks they are making that day. The last one I did was lots of "tropical" type drinks and way too sweet for my tastes.

After so many rave reviews of Choco + Liquor, gotta go with that one!

I'll see if Mixology is available on a different day. I'd like to try it sometime. . .

Thanks so much for all the input!
