So...I am carless until at least Tuesday now. I don't know if I said anything recently about my brakes groaning and there being a burning smell, but last night on the way to the theatre, the car sounded awful. My uncle said I really needed it checked out. At the last light just before the theatre, this huge cloud of white smoke came up from behind the car. I freaked out, thinking something was on fire, and the fact that all of the cars behind me pulled into the next lane at the same time did not help (at least we figured out that they were just trying to get out of the intersection because traffic was really backed up).

Anyway, the car didn't make a sound after that. Seemed to be working just fine, but Uncle Dwight insisted on going to Firestone this morning. An hour later, I got the bad news. The brake hose to my right rear tire was severed, the brake fluid leaked out, and now I need a new hose, pads, calipers, rotors, the whole nine yards. The car is undriveable; even though I made it back to Firestone, I would not be allowed to drive it off the lot until it's repaired. The sucky part is that Firestone doesn't have some of the parts; they need them from Hyundai, and they're closed until Monday. If they don't have the part, I could be without a car for several days more while Firestone orders it. And I'm looking at another $700 on top of the $1100 that I already owe. AND I have a doctor's appointment on Monday afternoon and a hair appointment Monday night.

I think it's time to break out the booze...
