I'm not quite sure how we've been together this long as we have such polar opposite feelings... about WALMART! :)

My wife loves the place and I detest it. She shops there and I won't unless it is an emergency.

Well, now she has changed her tune!

She orederd a dvd player for the car from Walmart.com. So, yesterday I went to install it and all was going well. Then I put the disc in and the problems began. What was happening is that the discs would start out playing in English and then start randomly playing any of the other languages. Then it would switch back to English.......

So, I was more than happy to return it! Anything to get my money away from Walmart. ( I would have taken another one but they don't carry this anywhere but the . com. ) So, when they refund my money I notice that I am getting back $7.94 less than the total on the receipt. I ask about that and they explain that "Shipping and Handling in not refundable, under any circumstance, and it is not negotibale".

Excuse me? You sell me a defective item that you can't replace, and I'm out $7.94? Not a chance! I went up the ladder to the store manager and got the same "not negotiable" mantra....

Ok, not a problem, I said. So I went right to the CS area and started sharing my experiences with the 10 or so customers in line! :rotfl2:

Five minutes later I had my $7.94 back!

But the real upside here is that after hearing my story, my wife has finally given in. She has agreed to no more Walmart, and we no longer have a "mixed marriage". :teeth:

I'm actually rather impressed you got that back...I usually know if I'm buying something online and might have to return it...I'll need to eat that cost.

My new years resolution was to not step foot in Wal-Mart. I would just rather go to Target, spend a few bucks more, but not deal with the CRAP at my local wal-mart.

That's pretty standard practice not to get the s&h back. You lucked out.

Not really. It was much easier and smarter of them to give me $7.94 than have me approaching their other customers.

See, that's just it. If the product had not been defective, I woould totally agree. But this was their defective item, that they could not replace.

oh - i'm not arguing with you! I was just saying I was impressed!

How about this...my brother returned a table cloth to target after christmas.

this table cloth was washed, used, stained, and covered in dog hair. He didn't have a reciept OR the original packaging for the tablecloth.

his reason for returning it? the wrinkles would not iron out. (he opened the package on Christmas eve, tried to iron it, deceided to wash/dry it...still wasn't able to iron out the wrinkles, used it anyway...with the idea to return it after christmas.

don't ask me how...but he got his $21 back for that tablecloth! my brother will beat ANY CS down to get his money back on something he deems "defective" (aka - the polyester fibers in this table cloth were defective...ie - unable to be ironed out.) :rotfl2:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Target has this policy as well, don't they? :confused3

Anyway, I'm off to WalMart now (I still love it)! :teeth:

Congrats. You were enough of a butthead to make them give you what it took to get you out of the store.

Like somebody else said, this is pretty standard. In fact, many B&M's will not even take back online purchases, you have to return them via the online policy.

You'll run into it again. Maybe they next store will kick you out without giving you your $7.94. :)

And you a are a flat out idiot. Just once you might like to try not getting involved in my posts to give me grief. Just once. But I guess you just can't help yourself.

wow...rude...

and it's not true - the ONLY store I've encountered that will not take returns from their online counterpart is the CLOTHING LINE at Victoria Secrets. I've ordered from MANY online places and have been able to return/exchange stuff at the stores.

sometimes a store will refund a "buttheads" money to keep their business...I think it's admirable...especially considering the merchaindise was flat out defective

I rarely even respond to your threads. I doubt I'll be the only one to give you grief on this. How many before it's clear that it's just no me?

So true. And yet EVERY SINGLE TIME you do, it is the same negative B.S. EVERY SINGLE TIME.

I have returned stuff I bought online before and have been refunded the shipping cost. And it wasn't even defective. The fact that it is defective they definitely SHOULD return the shipping cost. If it was just an "I don't want it anymore" then I can see them charging for shipping.

Target, Best Buy, Suncoast... there's more but if you're thinking the only one is VS you're wrong. Would you applaud everybody who threw a fit until they changed policy?

Not true, you just ignore the other stuff.

Many places force you to even return it viA USPS. I don't like it, but you should know going in what the return policy is. Given how many peole return online purchases when there is nothing wrong with it, I can't blame them. Sucks when you get something defective, no doubt about it.

If an item is defective, and they cannot replace it, there shouldn't even be a question as to whether a customer gets a total refund or not (including any and all charges).

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Thanks for the laugh this morning. Now back to your corners and behave.

I know it is fashionable on this board to bash Walmart, but just wanted to point out that if the DVD player was defective, it was the manufacturer's fault, not Walmart's.

I would have wanted my shipping and handling charges back too, if it was an item I could not just exchange for a new one. I would have just exchanged it. :confused3

If you read my post you would see I said " the ONLY store I've encountered "

I didn't say it was the end all be all...jeez....feeling a bit snarky today?
