Misting Fans

It's our first time to go to Disney in mid October and I've been making my list of must-haves.

One item is the misting fan. I saw them at Walmart the other day but they're $4.96 ea. I don't know if I want to spend that when I'd be the one having to carry four around all day at the parks.

Will we need them in Oct? Do you buy one for each person or share? I'm trying to buy smart and not get everything on the lists posted here mainly because my budget would double if I did... :rotfl:

What do I absolutely need for the four of us (ages 6, 11, 41, and none-of-your-business :rotfl2: ). to take to the parks every day?

We only took one misting fan to the parks and shared it. You could always refill the water if you needed. Four would be a lot to carry.

I had one for our trip in June of '99. I'd say one for the four of you should be plenty. Mine had a strap so I could hang it around my neck. I didn't use it all that often and noticed that the one day when I really used it...that was the day I got the most sunburn.

last year right after school started back in september. walmart marked them down to a $1.00. i bought 2 for 5 of us and it was plenty! :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsboy:

We did not need a misting fan during our mid-November visit. I imagine October will be warmer though. We did use a misting fan during a 90-plus degree afternoon ballgame though and it was VERY welcome and refreshing.

I've been to WDW a couple of times in October and never felt the need for a misting fan....
Last July....now that was another story....... :rotfl2:

FL weather is very "fickle". Can be hot then, can be cooler. The later in the month the more likely it'll be on the cooler side (80s instead of 90s LOL!)-but the humidity level starts to drop a bit that time of year and that makes a big difference in the air temp.

We were there in mid Oct last year and it was very nice, even cool enough for a light jacket at night & in the morning so mister fans weren't really needed.

Yep one october it was so cool at noight we all bought new sweatshirts!!
(not that I am complaining.... :rotfl: )This was around the 17th of October.

Id say if you are thinking about it, then just buy one or two.. We went in July 3 years ago and were dying so we bought one at WDW and it was $20, but it was the best $20 ever spent!! :teeth: The one we bought had a strap so we just bought one and shared it.. 4 is way too many, especially with kids.. they are not going to want to wear it all day or carry it..

Noticed yesterday that our Walmart has marked down the misting fans from $4.96 to $3.00. I thought I remembered them even going lower last year but I guess it would depend if they have any left.

I would like to buy one of these for our September trip. Question - do the misting fans at Walmart have the around-the-neck strap?

And also, where exactly are they located in Walmart? I haven't seen them...

At the Walmarts here, I have seen the fans in two places in the store. At one time they were on the end of an aisle in the Hardware area by the light bulbs and other fans and yesterday at 2 different Walmarts I saw them moved to the front of the store with other summer items that were marked down.
The fans did have a white strap attached to them.

Just wanted to jump in with a quick comment on those misting fans. We were in Disneyland last week. I lost count of how many times I was walking along and suddenly got sprayed because someone nearby was squirting one of those things. So use them and stay cool but please be considerate of those around you who might not want an unexpected shower.

I bought the misty mate for our June trip and then forgot them. We didn't miss them at all. Each day we got an early start and with the rain showers in the afternoon,we were always comfortable. Of course, I should add that we live in southeastern Louisiana so I guess that's a factor.

my $.02:
i bought a few sharper image misting fans. they were great in my yard, by the pool.
BUT..........carried them ONCE in WDW, & went right back to our little fans from the DS. the misting ones were just too big & heavy (when filled with water) to carry around allllllllllll day in the heat.

the lil fans were "just right" :sunny:

It has a belt strap that fits around my waist. We fill it in the AM with ice & water, and refill during the day as needed. You pump it, so no batteries are needed. I'm sure a misting fan would be more refreshing because of the fan part, but the misty mate is more convenient & cheaper (no batteries).
