We are going the second week of June with our DS6 and DS8. We are not using strollers, but are thinking about getting misting fans. Are some better than others? Will they be heavy for the boys to carry around their necks? Any pictures of the fans would be great. Thanks.

These are the fans we use.

VERY durable. We use them all day, every day.

VERY inexpensive. $4 at Wal-Mart.

They do not spray water, but they are
HANDS-FREE, as they hang around your neck and blow air
continuously straight UP at your face.
Some others have said they use these and, if they
want, carry just a spray bottle of water to squirt, if
they need the extra moisture.

3 AA batteries per unit.

We use rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH)
Batteries and charge the batteries every evening.

Each set of batteries will run the fan continuously
for 6-8 hours (we carry an extra set per fan in the
parks.

Don't buy the ones in the parks, they are expensive- and heavy. You will end up carrying them....
We bought small mister fans at Walmart for under $3 each. Don't have a picture but the were H20 brand and about palm size with a small compartment for water and a foamy fan at the end. And a caribenner clip also.
Now we did not think these would work very well but for the price we thought we would give them a try. We were very pleased to find the worked AWESOME!! The kids got alot of sprays out of them before they needed to be refilled and the single AA battery worked our whole trip. When they needed refill they just filled at a drinking fountian or asked for a cup of ice water filled the fan and drank the rest. We have used these fans for 2 trips to WDW and on a cruise. The kids just clipped them to their belt loop or on their bag.
We did buy one extra incase we lost one or one got broke, still have it in the original package because the original ones are still working so well.

Found them in the isle where the fans are near hardware. Have also seen them at drug stores too

I like Misty Mate for kids. They do not need batteries and can be used easily by kids. The kids don't get drenched, either, unless they are vigilant. The downside is that even small kids can pump up the pressure enough to crack the top, plus they don't have fans. I have used a bandaid from my fanny pack as a quick-fix but once it is cracked, it is basically useless. I have bought them on Ebay in pairs or multiples to 1) have extras and 2) have a different color for each child.

Go to Misty Mate for many of their products on their website. We have a couple of their larger units but only use them for summer band or other close-to-home venues.

Here's a pic.

I would also check Ebay for better pricing.

We used the exact same mister fans :thumbsup2 for our trip last June and same deal, never had to replace the batteries for the whole trip. Worked really well and was just enough cooling without feeling like you were getting drenched.
Only problem was that DD10 left one on the safari at AK b/c she didn't clip it back onto the belt loop. :sad2: But at least we inadvertently spread some pixie dust because someone else gained a fan! ;)
