Mister Disney & the K-Man's Not Quite Ready for Prime Time Dining Experience

We were there Saturday April 15th at 11:30a

Where you there also?

Whew---lunch right? Ok - it wasn't us!

We were there at 8:45pm...party of seven, with a Grandma and a rambunctious family! :) Celebrating a birthday....we also had a very Bree like family -with 4 not three children(painted on smiles - all quiet) sitting next to us....not judging, just what I observed. I couldn't help but notice because the mother was holding her hands together tightly and would catch my eye and stretch the smile a little more. I'm working on it in my trip report....:) (on a side note - since becoming addicted to the DIS and trip reporting, my observations on my surroundings have changed and would rival those of crime scene investigators....gotta note everything for the DIS boards!)

I was relieved to see they use yukon gold style potatoes, which are my personal favorites. Oh course they were thick and lumpy as I recall growning up. Some people remember smooth whipped mashed potatoes...I on the other hand always had the lumpy variety.

The green beans?
HORRIBLE....over cooked limp things...no way no how was I going to eat those and Kevin refused as he did with the Applesauce at POP Century.

The fried chicken was good. Super Crispy and juicy, just the right herbs and spices....wait....did I walk into Kentucky Fried Chicken?!?!?

The pot roast on the other hand, MAJOR disappointment! It just did not have enough flavor, although very tender. I guess i was hoping for my mother's pot roast recipe which just falls apart and melts in your mouth.....

Mister Disney's Mom's Pot Roast Recipe
Start with a 7 bone (bone in) chuck roast, about 3 inches thick. Ask your butcher to cut one this thick. Usually the stores have them, but much thinner.

FREEZE it solid, at least overnight.

Preheat your oven to 225°

place Frozen roast in a deep roasting pan (The bottom of the broiler pan usually works well)

Sprinkle on top of the roast liberally with 2 packets of Lipton Onion Soup Mix.

seal completely with tin foil.

place in over and cook for 6 - 7 hours.

Serve with mashed potatoes.

OMG!! You are killing me.... I was afraid to post reviews from my trip ... I mean you guys are awesome and not only do you include food porn but recipes as well :faint: Mr. Disney does it all. He can bring home the bacon..fry it up in a pan..and never, never let you forget he's a man cause he's Mr. Disney....(OK I won't quit my day job)

PS This is really close to my Mom's pot roast but she adds a can of mushroom soup to the gravy. And we always had egg noodles with ours. The gravy was soo yummy I could drink it.

Great reviews, keep them coming. Your review convinced me that I do not need toeat here. I never thought that it looked good but now I am convinced. Sorry to here that you had a bad waiter but that is the way the cookie crumbles. Patrick sounded good.
Can't wait to here your V&A's review. I probably will not get to eat there in any near future, because it is just me and my boys (12) and they will definately not eat anything there.
:offtopic: By the way i think that my son may be of "different demographics" as well any suggestions for me on how to handle the situation as it arrises? I mean other thatn being supportive because who we are is who we are and I love him nomatter what demographic he belongs to.

Oooh... Silly question here! Apologies in advance!

When you say there are cousins "in your kitchen", does that mean they're at the same table as you?

Not that I have anything against dining with random people, but I always imagined my bf and I sitting in a cute little 50's booth - like Danny and Sandy in Grease!

No he means the rooms are arranged in smaller rooms that have around 6 tables in them. Some tables have tvs others don't.

You said everything I would have suggested.....

LOVE him no matter what..... :goodvibes :goodvibes

Mr. Disney, I can't believe you didn't let Kevin get smiley fries! NO WONDER he didn't enjoy his meal!

Kevin, next time we are all at the World you can dine with DS! You will savor only the most delectable mac & cheese the Mouse House has to offer, and of course, you will delight in the delicate, crispy goodness of smiley fries! Each evening your dinner will be topped off by PLAIN vanilla ice cream in a bowl. No syrup, no sauce, no chocolate crown, no sprinkles, no cone, PLAIN vanilla ice cream. :teeth: The only way to know which places are the best is to order the same thing everywhere you go. At least that seems to be DS's theory...

I've passed the point of no return. Mister Disney snapped me of all possibilities of that ever happening again. My last hold out was my flourescent :bounce: green "cheater" for my chop sticks.

That "torch" was passed to a new generation so that they might begin their journey to discover the fine foods of the world.

I don't know which was the tougher journey, giving up my flourescent :bounce: green cheaters or Mission Space.

In celebration of that journey, Mister Disney bought us new chop sticks when we were in Japan back in April.

I look forward to seeing you and your DH and DS in October! :thumbsup2

Wow DH really wants to eat at 50's PT this trip and it doesn't sound all that great! I have heard mixed reviews of the food here. Doesn't look that great either. That's lousy that you got a grump waiter.

Oh... I so love reading your reports. Well written... and by two men who appreciate good food and good service.

BRAVO! BRAVO!!

so, now that i have to change my PT ADRs, any suggestions where to eat? we've done H&V, SciFi (hated it), and MM... looks like we might have to venture into the BD (do they really hate kids there, even relatively well-behaved foodies like their mom)?

Kevin -
He still has the cheater chopsticks! :teeth: I just think when he uses them it will be for eating mac & cheese! :rotfl:

Did you miss the memo that we can't come for the 2nd Annual Nosh? The truancy board was a bit miffed at DS's UNEXCUSED absences last October so we are traveling in August (for our BIG trip) and December for a quick trip to MVMCP. He'll be truant in December, but I'll be smarter about it this time. ;)

Mr. D tells me he could be in our neck of the woods on business next Spring - you need to tag along! We'll meet somewhere nice for dinner. Somewhere that serves mac & cheese and plain ice cream! (And if you are in the mood to catch a movie there is a theater here that has smiley fries!)

So sorry I missed the memo. I'm still learning the ropes here!

I wouldn't know a thing about truancy boards. My mother was Kindergarten Cop! There was no hiding or skipping school. :teacher: :teacher:

I love tagging along with Mister Disney for business and pleasure. We tend to make the best of every trip. He just found out about a trip to AZ in August. WOO HOO! Can you say "frequent flyer miles"?

I look forward to seeing you all again where ever and whenever. I'm getting used to the plain vanilla ice cream ... underneath all that chocolate sauce and nuts! :rotfl:

ooh, do tell... is there a date set? i'd love to be able to join in :woohoo:

Mr. D's signature says Monday, October 16 for Noshing. We had such a nice time last year and our group was really a lot of fun!

We wouldn't be letting DS skip school again, but DH has vacation the first week of December and we are buying APs in August so we really HAVE to go. There simply is no way around it. As we were leaving last October DH was watching the video on the Magical Express and wistfully talking about WDW at holiday time. We couldn't turn around and go back in December last year, but this year we can!

Gigi-
50's isn't that bad. At least we thought it was good. Good enough that we are going back and bringing our friends who haven't eaten there before. Hopefully we won't be disappointed! We haven't been to Brown Derby so I don't know if they hate children. If they do then I suppose they will be completely bent that we are planning to go to the Imagineer lunch with DS. ;)

We had made an ADR for our upcoming trip for the Prime Time because of the supposed wonerful "Pot Roast". I think we'll cancel and try something else.

Thank you for the review.

Our family really enjoys the prime time..our kids love watching Mom and Dad get picked on. Dad had to wear a bib! We enjoy the food too. Dad always gets the pot roast and thinks it is very good. Chicken was very good last trip and luckly for us we like green beans. Now my SIL does not and tried to hide them under some lettuce...they came back out as her pre-desert, covered with whipped cream and sprinkles.....we were laughing ourselves silly.
We have had servers that were really into character and some that were not. But we still come back every trip.
The servers won't 'pick' on the kids unless they can see they will really get into it, and will NOT make them eat anything they don't want to. Kids get more of no elbows on the table, did you wash your hands? that kind of thing....

Bev

thanks for the info... i guess i have to stop skimming signatures and actually read them! but DRAT, i won't be there the 16th, we're leaving the 4th...

i'm wondering if we stick w/the PT ADR should i warn dh in advance or just "let him be surprised!" LOL!

Thanks for a great thread! :) :) :)

We are going to Prime Time for the first time for my Birthday. I'm hoping it'll be fun and we'll get a server who is in character. I thought it might be fun to be made fun of on my b-day. ;)

It's funny that you didn't like the food b/c I was thinking how good it looked when I saw the pictures. But then, I'm pregnant and I'll eat just about anything...

Can't wait to try it out! Keep those awesome reviews coming! :wave2:
