Mission trip to D.C. for students?

My dd's youth group at church is going on a 1 week mission trip to Washington, D.C. thru an organization Center for Student Missions. Has anyone done this or gone thru them to another city? I am a little nervous, but I know she'll like it. I just worry about safety.

Center for Student Missions often volunteers at the nonprofit where I work. The program gets good reviews from participants and our volunteer coordinators.

Isn't it kind of sad that we need "mission trips" to our Nations Capital

Yes, I know there are a lot of poor and homeless there-which is the point.
