We have never been on this ride and Im a little worried reading the description of getting sick. Anyone have experience and tell me if its worth it or not?

Hi

I rode it with my DD5yo in June. The Green Version - Tame. I am prone to motion sickness and didn't want to deal with it. The non-spinning version was a lot of fun. DD5 is a major dare-devil (no-fear) and had a blast with this ride. I enjoyed it too and no motion sickness.

Hope this helps

I rode the original version (now the orange version)(no choice then) the year it opened. I felt 'strange' after exitingthe ride. Not nauseous, no headache, just a bit 'strange'. I think I rode twice, but did not again on subsequent trips. This past May, I tried the green version, it was great. It felt very similar, to me, to the original, but no spinning, felt fine afterward. I think I rode total of three times. Good move on Disney's part.

i've ridden this ride tons of time and i love it. but the first time i rode it i didn't expect it to be that intense but after i rid it a few more times i got use to it. bt sense your a newbie to the ride or you have motion sickness i'd suggest you ride the tamer version of the ride.

When I went on it in 2004, I got very sick  . My DD(16) at the time just felt a little odd. My DH felt fine, no problem. If you are not sure I would go on the tame one. Next time I think I might try it too.

We rode it 2 years ago before they split it into green and orange. Liked it but I felt like I was concentrating so hard on looking straight ahead and not blinking so I wouldn't get dizzy, that I couldn't really enjoy the ride.

This year, my daughter and I rode the tame version, and thought it was great. You could pay more attention to what was going on, and pushing your buttons at the correct time, when you didn't have to worry about throwing up. :sunny:

DH and I rode the original version. DH who served in the Navy and never got sick on a ship in the middle of the ocean felt terrible after Mission Space and will never ride again. I sometimes can't take circular motion rides, but I loved Mission Space, felt fine after, and have ridden again twice since.

So it's tough to predict how each person will react.

If you have any sort of issues with your ears, my advice is to avoid the original version. I have never, ever, EVER had motion sickness or had problems with rides whatsoever. I went on it, did everything that they suggest you do to avoid sickness, and I still ended up quite nauseous. I chalk it up to being deaf in one ear. I didn't actually get sick, but I felt rather queasy. A diet coke and a nice, slow, cool ride on Spaceship Earth helped.

DisneyChristmas -- I can relate! My BF was in the Navy and compared Mission Space to the "spin and puke" training they did in the centrifuge. I don't think I would ride it again. I am prone to motion sickness. For some reason we did not know there was a tame version! My eyes were watering and I was very, very nauseous but I made it through. I did however tell myself that the next time Gary Sinese warns me so many times about motion sickness I will get off the ride! I thought, hey this is Disney, how wild can it be? By the way, there are barf bags in the ride!!!

I have EXTREME motion sickness. I can't ride backwards on the monorail, read in the car, sit sideways on the bus, etc...
I rode the green version (doesn't spin) with no problems! A couple of times I felt like it was going to bother me, so I just closed my eyes. That worked great!!! I even rode it again. It is a great ride to cool-off on, because they blow really cold air in your face the entire time! :thumbsup2

My whole family rode original version in Dec 2005. I was nervous the whole time in line. Told my husband right before they closed the doors how scared I was, wasn't sure if I could do it. Never had any motion sickness or health problems before, but just kept thinking I could be that one who didn't know they had a heart problem. Told the CM right before they closed the doors, how nervous I was asked how long it would be, he said about 4 mins, etc. I just sat back and tried to breathe evenly. I was fine for me the whole time. I just kept looking straight ahead, even tried to push my buttons. I couldn't believe when it was over, it didn't seem like 4 min. I didn't have a bit of dizziness, sickness, anything. My DH and DS-11 complained of slight headaches afterwards. Other DS-12 and I no problems.

It's so hard to know how each person will react, you really have to make a decision for yourself not based on how someone else felt. People who have never had problems before can't ride it again. Others expect to have problems and go through it without any.

We actually felt that Mission Space was pretty tame! We had been really pumped up by people we knew saying that the ride was absolutely insane-including a former Marine who said it was the more intense than anything he had encountered in his life! So you can imagine that I was super freaked out before riding. Especially since they give you about 6 chances to exit the ride during the prep! However, after the ride was over, I was shocked! It was totally manageable (for me) and a lot of fun. Of course the first thing the Marine said when we told him we thought the ride was a breeze was, "They must have toned it down"! This of course, was back when there was only the spinning version. We have heard rumors that they did make it less intense after the CM testing period, and that originally, you could hardly move your arm up to hit your button. That's what I'm talking about! I wish they would make the original more intense now that guests are given the choice of the non-spinning version.
