I know this has been asked before but I need to have a very specific answer to this question. One of the people going on our trip is a WONDERFUL 23yo who has Downs. She LOVES rollercoasters but we were wondering about Mission Space. I know there is a non-sick line. my question is, does this line spin AT ALL? I have read here that you still get all the bumps, tilts and such like Star tours but does it or does it not spin at all?

The claustrophobic element is still there if anyone in your party hates closed in spaces.

Nope, No claustorphobia. We're just concerned about the 23yo and getting motion sick from the g-forces. If it doesn't spin AT ALL she will probably make this her new favorite ride. Her current favorite is Rockin Rollercoaster. She is just so sweet, she doesn't appear to be a rollercoaster type but she loves 'em all and her brother who loves ATV's, Snomobiles and such, won't go on a one! the 3 of us are planning on the no-spin line.

I bet she will love it. It is very tame. And I don't go on anything. LOL! I don't think it's even as bumpy as Star Tours or Body Wars.

You know..I'm a hardcore snowmobiler...and do ATV's quite a bit..
But I will NEVER EVER go on the Rocking Rollercoaster!
I'd rather do a 60 foot jump on a machine I'm in control of, then be turned upside down by a rackety track held together by duct tape and toothpicks!!

I will say though, that I'm glad they picked Aerosmith for the ride :)

I have fear of closed in places, but aren't you busy enough on the ride to keep from getting too concerned with the closed in space? I have no trouble with elevators, or even the little thingies we rode to the top of the arch in St.. Louis. If my mind is busy, the close quarters doesn't bother me. Any words of comfort of advice...please!

i don't know about the "smooth" version of this ride, but i do know that i will not allow my 11 yr old son to ride it. there have been too many incidents of people having problems after riding MS, all probably due to as yet undiagnosed heart problems, but Downs syndrome people often also have heart defects/murmurs. My son and husband rode it about a year ago--my husband felt sick all day, my son said it was hard to breathe after it started. I am not a worry wart, and we do all kinds of adventurous things. I just have a feeling about this....

also, its about 4 minutes, which is long, and there is no stopping once it starts.

I loved the ride, and they give you puke bags. :rotfl: But my Dad has blood pressure problems and was dizzy the last 4 days of the trip.

There's a "smooth" version???

The "green" version is very tame. I get motion sickness really easily - I can't even walk backwards :rotfl: ... I rode it more than once. There was one part where I had to close my eyes, but otherwise I was fine.

We were at WDW last week - hour long waits for Orange, but you could walk on to Green (literally). If you plan to ride Green ask a CM if there's any wait before you get a Fast Pass, as you probably won't need one.

Basically if you can ride Body Wars (which was closed last week while we were there) or Star Tours you can ride Green. Be aware that the ride starts with the walls literally closing in (in the form of the instrument panel rotating in on you) and then you are rolled onto your back for liftoff, regardless of which version you're doing. Green can then actually be more intense then Orange, since the G's you pull on Orange push you back in your seat and you don't feel all the simulator turbulence you feel in Green. But again, if you can handle Star Tours and Body Wars, MS-Green is really no different. Also, while you do feel the G's on Orange (and closing your eyes won't help like in the Circle Vision theaters), I didn't notice any spinning sensation. Great ride!

I am a Green Line rider now, too. I could do the old (now "Orange") ride, but I'd feel icky afterward. Last week, I did Green three times (different days) and really enjoyed it. There is almost no wait for Green. DD11 wanted Orange and got fast passes for it. She also did Green with me once and said she thought it was good, just not as good.

As for the closed in feeling, the screen is lowered down to you so you are kind of trapped. But, the story and the directions to the different members of your crew keep your mind completely occupied for the entire trip. The nice thing about Green is that you don't have to stare straight ahead to avoid the motion sickness so you can actually interact with the rest of your crew. I met a lot of nice people when my DD abandoned me.

So there are 2 versions of the ride? I'm terrified of ridding Mission Space. Is the "Green" one the way to go? what are the differences?

There are 2 sets of simulators - Orange spins (causing you to feel launch-like G-forces) while Green does not. Otherwise both are exactly the same, using simulators similar to those used for Star Tours and Body Wars. If you like Star Tours/Body Wars you'll like Mission Space Green, with the caveat that the instrument panel rotates close to you once you're belted in (for a slightly claustraphobic feeling) and you do roll onto your back for "launch" - it's pretty cool!
