I am one of the ones who rode ms and became so ill I still am afraid when I think about it. Nothing has ever made me that sick. I really want to ride the tamer ride but am afraid. Has anyone ever gotten sick on it? (I also fear they might make a mistake and mix up the tame and real rides.) It really was traumatic for me. Now that I am posting this I think it would be silly to risk it.

I don't think there is any way they would get the sides mixed up. You get a different boarding pass for the tamer side and the cm's check it before you enter into the room. I've been on both and the tamer side is my favorite, partly because I did not have to concentrate so much on not getting sick (keeping my eyes open, etc) that I could actually enjoy the ride. Have you ever done "Star tours" in MGM? I think if you can handle star tours so will be able to handle the tamer MS.

RIDE IT!!!! I did! The first time I rode it, I got soooooo sick I thought I was gonna DIE!!! I was sick for about 2 hours. A few weeks ago I rode the tame version, and was absolutely FINE! I wasn't dizzy, nor sick.

So go for it! You'll be just fine! If you are still nervous though, then just make that the last ride you get on before leaving the park!

Editied to Add - I thought that the less intense version was going to be lame, but it was great! So you will not be missing out on anything by going on the "Green" version. :thumbsup2

Oh God. This ride.

When I went in December last year, the ride didn't have 2 sides, or at least we weren't told it did. We got onto the centrifuge side. It swung us around, and when we got off, we thought it was awesome. There was no line, so we got right back on. After the SECOND ride in a row, we were both ready to vomit. They had a bench near the exit of the room, luckily, where we sat and talked to the attendant whose job it was to herd people out of the room, I guess.

Ride the spinning side once. Only once. But you must do it (because it's frickin' awesome!)

Hey, the spinning is not for everyone. My wife and I rode the green side to test the waters first and it is just like Star Tours. In fack a bit tamer than ST as you have the shoulder bar holding you snugly in place. There really is no way you could get on the wrong version, unless you completely blow it. They are on different sides of the building, have different pre-show film sections, and the orange side has multiple warnings and chances to exit.

I rode the orange side 3 times after the green and had a blast. My Wife, however made it about 3/4 through the orange side when she looked to the side and got almost overcome by her pesky motionsickness. After sitting through the next ride sequence on the bench at the exit (and being offered a glass of water by the CM there), she was fine.

The green non-spinning side is something they just starting offering around the end of June or July, so I don't think you had a choice last Dec.

I highly encourage people to at least give the green side a try, it is a wonderfull attraction. And if you do try the orange side, just focus on the screen in front of you, press your buttons, flip some of the switches at random, and don't close your eyes longer than a blink or two.
One more little known secret. To lessen the effects of the g forces, flex and release your thigh muscles every couple of seconds during the bad parts. It forces blood to flow a bit more normaly.

I would also suggest not to look around. It pulls your head back anyway, so it's hard to, but I did anyway. That was a big mistake. Still, you should give both sides a shot, I suppose. Definately do the orange; althought it made me sick, it was one of my favorite attractions. Definately livened Epcot up a bit for me.

I may actually try the green side after reading this, as I love the Star Tours-type rides. I get very sick -extremely dizzy & nauseous - on the "original" (orange side) of MS. I've tried it twice, using all of the little "tricks" to keep from getting so sick, but none of them work for me. I can't stand the ride, but my DH & DS love it & can go on repeated times in a row without any problems. :crazy2: I love roller coasters & rides like that, but MS kills me!

I wouldn't suggest going on the orange side again if you got so sick the first time, but it sounds like you may be able to handle the green side.

I too got very ill after riding MS a couple of years ago. My family (without me) still went on the ride until my DH got so sick that he had to leave the park and go back to our room. He missed our planned Candlelight Processional visit...my 2 Ds's and I did other things instead because we felt bad for him and figured to catch it the next day. This June I tried the tamer version with my family (still afraid that I would get sick). I loved it! It was great watching the screen without worrying about the g forces! My DS's still like the intense version but my DH and I will stick with the milder!

I am so glad to hear they now have a tamer side. I've always wanted to try this but have always been prone to motion sickness. Are you sitting upright in chairs similar to Star Tours? My DS is worried the he will be crammed in a cockpit or something with his knees up to his chest!! Can somone explain the set up for the tamer side and what actually happens? We leave in two weeks so maybe I can talk him into it by then. I sounds like he would love it

thanks, Marley

Your knees aren't cramped up or anything but a shoulder harness comes down and clicks in place. There isn't much turbulance but I think these are the same seats which were used in the intense version.

Two words...NEVER AGAIN! I seriously thought I was going to die. Kept my head straight back, eyes open, looking straight ahead at the screen. I remember shouting "Nickie, hit that button!" and thinking OMG, I hate this. Please let it be over soon. Could not take the face pulling, skin peeling back sensation. I do ride rollercoasters and motion rides although I do suffer minor motion sickness from the latter. I never felt like I was going to barf but I know the only thing that saved me was the air blowing on my face. It's also claustophobic in there. I did feel "off" for like 30 minutes after the ride.

DH and DS love it. DD feels like I do so this trip we will try the mild version while they ride the original. I do have to say I'm glad I did it once and it is a really cool ride but once was more then enough for me. :scared: :crazy2: :headache:

yes. It's about as close to a real flight simulator as most people will ever get. I'm not a big roller coaster person, but I've been on it twice. The first time I was a bit queasy for about 15 minutes after riding it. To too bad, but not right either. The second time it wasn't nearly as bad for me, maybe because I knew what to expect. I was also able to enjoy the story more. Having said that, I have no great desire to go on the original ride in the near future. I just don't love it, but I'm SO glad I went on it - and more than once.

You'll know which side is tamer. They ask you before you go in numerous times. I didn't get sick on the tame side...I was actually smiling all the way through it and I don't dare go on the wild side!

There isn't any way they could mix up the green and orange teams....the centrifuge is turned off on the green side. I'm sure there's a whole start up procedure they'd have to do to get it going again, after it's been off for months.

One way to be sure you're going to ride the tame version is to watch the warnings. In the green team queue, the warnings say that if you're made uncomfortable by dark, enclosed spaces or motion simulators, you shouldn't ride. You don't see any of the heart problems, pregnancy, etc. warnings that you get on the orange side.

Please, give the green team version a try. It's very, very tame, I think it's much less prone to cause motion sickness than Star Tours. They tilt the cabin around, and you get a little of the forward movement sensation that's typical in motion simulators, but that's it. It's great, great fun. I loved it so much I went back to Epcot on my last night to ride it one more time.

You walk into a pod sorta thing with 4 chairs, all facing foward...a harness comes down, and then when the doors close, the screen moves towards you. Not for those who are claustrophobic but it's a lot fun! I am so scared of motion sickness and I did wonderfully. I've gone with my brother who is 6'3" and 200+ lbs and he did fine in it.

If you are prone to motion sickness at all do not even try the tame side. I had never been on this ride before and decided to give the tame side a try since so many people were saying it was fine. Well, I did not feel fine afterwards. I can usually handle star tours and soarin', but mission space threw me for a loop. The screen moves very fast and made me feel quite dizzy. While I didn't get physically ill, my head and stomach were not right for about an hour. Which is too long to not feel well in Disney. Since you've already experienced it once do you really need to do it again? That is up to you.

I have been prone to motion sickness all my life, but I decided to try the tame ride and it was a blast! DH then went on the 'intense' ride and he loved that even more. So when we came back the next day I decided to try the 'intense' version myself, and I cam very close to throwing up! The 'intense' version is definately an extreme ride and not for everyone, but I really did enjoy the tame version and will ride it the next time we get to Epcot.
