Mission Space Orange or Green

I daren't ride Orange. I will do certain thrill rides, (a fair amount) but the idea of spinning and being stuck on it puts me off.

When I went in 2005, I think it was only one version. When I went this year I went on Green. I won't ride Orange.

I always loved Orange when I was in my teens/early twenties, but I went in 2013 after several years away and got mildly dizzy and nauseated. It didn't put too much of a damper on the day, but I know for a fact that my inner ear has only gotten less tolerant since then and I'm considering Green for our trip in January. I've been on it before and it's just not the same.... I go back and forth between accepting my spinning-related limitations and saying screw it, I prefer Orange!

See, I think that the people I quoted are feeling the ride the way it's meant to be felt. The ride spins, but it does so at a speed to create g-forces, not to create a feeling of spinning.

But...some bodies are going to feel it as spinning anyway, like many here, or others (not anyone here, but the random people at the parks) don't follow the rules and *maybe* would have experienced it as weightlessness/gforces, but didn't b/c of the rules issue. :)

I'm too afraid to find out I'm someone who CAN'T follow rules or whose body feels it "wrong"... So I'm a Green-side person.
Despite having my body feel it correctly, I can't stress enough how miserable I felt afterwards. And I'm a guy that will go on just about any roller coaster and love it. But I'd never consider doing the Orange side again.

Last time we went to Epcot, I rode the green side while my kids rode the orange side. I had no problems at all with the green side, however, I really didn't like riding without my family and they don't want to do the green side.

So, my question is does the orange side actually spin you or is the motion simulator portion just a lot more intense? I ride Star Tours with my kids and I just close my eyes during the parts that I think will make me feel queasy. Can I use this same strategy and ride orange with them or will that not work? TIA!

I've done both. I don't like spinning rides (ToT multiple time/Teacups once at DL in 2000 LOL) and while you can't "feel" the spin on Orange because you don't actually see it and it's a different type of spinning than say the teacups or a tilt o whirl, your inner ears do know that you are not standing still in space and you can feel the pressure of the g force on your lungs/chest. I like thrill rides but I will never get on this ride ever again. I haven't even done the green side since 2009. I felt slightly queasy (and I am not prone to motion sickness at all) but my step dad was positively ill for hours after. I have constant fluid in my ears which is why I'm not the fan of spinning rides but I've never been that sick from a ride until that one.

I also failed at the qubit sphere test for flight. You stand in it and they strap you in and the circles make a sphere and they all spin in different axis so that you have to bring them all still. Epic Fail. haha I could never right myself from the spinning and it made my dizzy.

It spins pretty fast, but to be honest, the Carousel affects me worse than MS does. I think it's because MS is all contained within the vehicle, so you don't actually see that you're spinning.

You might want to consider doing Orange once. I can do roller coasters (EE, R&R, SM) with no trouble, but the tea cups are a definite no. I did Orange once with my daughter, just to see. It really is an incredible experience. On the other hand, it did make me rather nauseous and it was a few hours before I had any interest in food. The bottom line is that I am glad I did it, it was an incredible experience, and I will never, ever, do it again. These days, my daughter does Orange, I do Green, and we meet in the shop!

As many have said you don't (or at least you shouldn't) feel a spinning sensation. You just feel the centrifugal force acting on you giving you the feeling of accelerating through space. It's definitely a unique feeling and recommend giving it a try. But DO NOT CLOSE YOUR EYES!! Unlike star tours where you're not really moving much and the visuals are what cause the exaggerated movement feeling, you really are moving on Mission Space and it's the visuals that trick your body into thinking you're moving through space rather than spinning. Closing your eyes can actually make you dizzier!!

yeah I made this mistake...star tours too many times makes me queasy, green side makes me queasy, but the family all wanted to go orange...I knew as soon as we were pulling (simulated) g's during liftoff I made a major mistake! I managed not to hurl, but it took me several hours that night to recover...take my advice, don't do it! To quote Admiral Akbar, "It's a Trap!"

So if you were someone who would never ride Star Tours again due to motion sickness (i.e., me), would you say not to go on it at all? I don't want to ruin a day.
if you would NEVER ride Star Tours again, I say no, don't do it. If you're willing to go on Star Tours, I'd say yes, try it once for bucket list check off...but don't plan a Beer Garden Sauerkraut Fest for right after...or even a few hours later...

Glad you decided against it. I have never had a problem with any Disney ride in terms of motion sickness, so when this opened, I was excited and rode it for the first time about a month after. About 5 seconds into the ride, I knew I had make a mistake. I managed not to hurl, but just barely. My husband told me I was as white as a sheet afterwards and I am a tan-skinned woman! Never again. I even refuse to do the green side.

I wouldn't say never to Star Tours and I could get through it, but I'm in no hurry to do so. But I was reading about Mission Space and that sounds so awesome. Do you miss a lot by going in the green queue?

ETA: I love ToT, and the coasters don't bug me at all as long as I'm not on an empty stomach, so I'm not a total wuss....:)
