Frankly, I find it really unfortunately that a huge segment of the population will not be able to enjoy the ride due to motion sickness. I'm not traveling all the way to WDW, enter the park and get sick.........or even take the chance. Epcot is the park we choose on the day we want to eat someplace really nice....there's no way we're going to get sick feeling and ruin the day. Count us out.

If they change Spaceship Earth to a motion ride with screen, it will leave even fewer rides for those that can't handle the motion effects (that's the rumor). If I wanted to get queezy, I'd head to the local country fair.

And this is written by a die-hard WDW fan.

Ok, basically I would say just try it. I was so worried from all the reports of getting sick on several message boards that I worked myself into feeling EXTREMELY nauseous before getting on the ride. I was panicky, nearly backed out. FINALLY dragged my sorry butt on there, and felt fine...But the worrying seriously nearly did me in. So don't worry about it, try it. The anticipation, at least for me, was much worse than the experience. DO NOT close your eyes, on a ride like this it will make things MUCH worse. Keeping your head back and looking ONLY at your video screen are important bits of advice. So don't take the reports of getting sick (not to discredit them, I know that it does bother plenty of people) and automatically apply them to yourself. It can cause a lot of unneccessary stress.

I had the chance to ride Mission:Space last week. I was about 30 seconds from walking out, probably less than that. Once they put up all the warnings. Afraid of dark confined spaces, spinning, etc. I was terrified, but in the end I loved the ride. I felt most of it was "hype". After my family of five went on it (kids were 7,7,and 4) we went back to get more fast passes and the enterance guy tried to talk me out of going. He said this ride isn't for eveyone. I think they are getting lots of complaints, but I think everyone should try it once. My son gets motion sickness in the car, but was fine on this. I didn't even notice the spinning. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this ride. The lift off was truelly awesome.

osugrad, they tried to talk us out of riding too! I was with my grandfather, who loves thrill rides, and they took us over to the sign and read it to us...a little humiliating actually...as if they were just positive we couldn't handle it...which added to my feeling sick prior to riding...but during I was just fine, like I said...the worrying was the worst part!

I think you will do fine. I rode it in July and didn't have any problems with motion sickness.

Typically, I will get motion sickness from a variety of things: riding the Teacups, Body Wars, and Star Tours, reading in moving automobiles, looking at various screen savers on computers, and playing certain video games. I was really worried about Mission Space. I didn't want to risk getting sick.

However, I gave it a try and loved it. I didn't feel any motion sickness whatsoever. I kept my eyes right on the screen and didn't turn my head. I couldn't tell we were spinning. It just felt (and looked) like we were blasting off into space. After the ride, my knees were a little wobbly for about thirty seconds...I felt absolutely exhilarated.

The teacups would have put me out of commission.

This ride is so much fun! Since I'll probably never travel into space, I feel as though I've experienced a realistic simulation of what that might be like. Who knows...maybe my future children will be able to venture out there. I'm glad I had this experience and would do it again in a heartbeat.

As an interesting side note, I watched the movie "Apollo 13" when I returned home from my trip, and many of the things in the movie reminded me of the ride. I think it must be very authentic.

Let us know how you do!

p.s. I rode it on three different days in July and didn't see or hear anyone get sick. Everyone (young and old) did just fine.

Here's another question -- How scary are the lines for it?! How long did everybody wait to ride?

I'm not sure about the regular line...I did single rider's line, which I highly recommend. Just like on test track, you move through so much quicker, and it's not like on this one you'd be talking that much anyway...the only talking the people in with me did was "wow" and "ooohs" and "aaaahs" So it was quick, less than five minutes.

When I was there, it was a "preview", so no fp or single line...wait was about 45 minutes.

Preview for us too, but still fastpass and single rider. Probably depends on the day.

I am glad I tried this amazing ride, it is a must see, but I really didn't feel well. I did not get sick but I felt a little dizzy for a few minutes. I was trying to keep my eyes into the screen, but the centrifuge (sp?) forces keet pushing my eyes to the right (funny sensation). I could ride it again, but not looking forward to.

Hi, I'm such a chicken that I won't go on the Tower of Terror, Rock N Roller Coaster, Splash Mountain or Space Mountain. However, I decided to give Mission Space a try since it didn't have any drops. The most scary part about the ride is not knowing what to expect. The lift off is wild but exciting. You do feel the G forces holding you into your seat. I ended up going on three times and look forward to riding it again next time we are at WDW. I didn't feel sick at all. I felt a little dizzy once we were in "space" but found that as long as I didn't move my head, I was fine. Good luck. I think it's worth a try. My sister went on MS once and had a little bit of a sour stomach when she got off. She was fine in about 15 minutes, however. Good Luck.
