Just got back. A trip report will be coming in the trip report forum, but I wanted to let everyone know that Mission Space is a terrific ride....you will not be disappointed. But it is intense and there is a lot of g force in it.

Hint...go at 4:00 to Epcot and go to the MP pavillion and if you see CM's and the spinning globe, you will probably get to ride. They have 2 centrifuges open and another expected next week.

My son and I got to ride it 5 times over the past week.

Just dont turn your head...keep watching the video. Its also fun to play with the buttons in front of you.

Its just a wild ride....great fun...but you wont do it to many times in a row...lol

I will hopefully be there in about 3 weeks for a few days, thanks for the input.;)

Do you get motion sick on it??? I'm very prone to it but my DH loves the rides that make me go ick...

Tell us how bad the b*rf factor is...

The feeling is a lot of pressure pushing you down in the seat. My wife didnt like doing it a second time so soon after the first. We believe the middle seats are better as well. DS agrees the outside seats are a little more disorienting, but most wont tell the difference. My DW saw a lady throwing up yesterday after she came off the ride....

I never felt sick. One thing to remember is to concentrate on the video in front of you. Don't think about the spinning of the centrifuge.

Its very hard to lift your arms during the g-force....lol... Its a lot more intense than R&R.

Is the also education value in this ride? I mean to say is it just a thrill ride or is there more to it than that? I really love test Track, but I really hope Epcot doesn't become thrill-heavy in place of it's original goal. Space is such a fascination...I hope that is acknowledged in this ride as well.

If you're wondering about moton sickness, think twice. I took 2 Bonine (for motion sickness) and rode Mission Space (in one of the middle seats) and definitely felt the spinning. I can do simulator rides (Star Tours, Back to the Future, etc.) with no problems. RNR is no problem for me ... But I was really nauseous for several hours after MS. I don't think I'll ever do it again.

DH and DS LOVED it and rode several times. Most of the other people on the ride said it was awesome ... but those of us who are sensitive to spinning should listen to the pre-ride warnings.

I think that Mission: SPACE inspires more than it educates, although there are little bits of information thrown in from time to time. There's a large sphere representing the moon with plaques marking where past probes have landed, and inside there are plaques commemorating major events in human spaceflight up to today (with fictional events such as "first family in space" used to fill in the time between today and 2036. Of course, feeling the forces act on you during the actual attraction is quite fascinating as well.

Where Epcot does try to educate, it often does a poor job. Universe of Energe and the film in the Living Seas are full of oversimplifications, scientific inaccuracies and errors.

WDWGuide, I agree that real education doesn't happen at Epcot, and frankly, when I'm on vacation, this is a good thing! But attractions like spaceship earth, the land, the old Horizons do just as you say, inspire more than educate. I've never understood why The Living Seas is such a poor attraction. So much could have been done. maybe someday... I've also found Innoventions to always inspire a yawn...Maybe years ago it could wow someone, but nowadays it's going to take alot, technology-wise to amaze us. Certainly these spaces could be put to b etter use. having said all that, Epcot is still my favorite park, and i hope it gets the attention it deserves from Disney as the years go on. One last question, how long a ride is M:S?

Mission: SPACE lasts 3 minutes and 48 seconds, give or take a couple.

We just missed riding this last week :(
We are so bummed but have something to look forward to in December ;)

What is the height requirement for this? My son is very into space & thrill rides but it is only 43 inches, I am amusing Mission: Space is going to have at least a 44 or more inch requirement?

Can't wait to experience it

We got back a week ago and got to preview mission space. It is an absolutely great ride. However, the motion sickness factor is very high! I'm prone to motion sickness and did not premedicate, wasn't sure how bad it would be. If the ride had lasted a minute longer I would have thrown up on it! And the effects lasted for me, I didn't feel right again until the next day. Now, other members of the family rode it with no problems, and loved it. If you're prone to motion sickness I would take medication and even then think twice about riding it. They seem to generate the forces by spinning, and that's what nails a lot of people with motion sickness. It is a first rate e-ticket, but has the biggest potential for getting people sick of anything I've ridden at Disney.

Oh that is good to know, now let's see if my son can grow another inch before December! ;)

Then if he does, I will have to make the decision if Mission Space is a ride for a 4 yr old.

I loved the ride - I couldn't contain myself from yelling - "woo hoo" on the takeoff. My 9 nine year old liked it too. My husband enjoyed the ride but felt sick for a while after.
The "g forces" are much like that round Carnival ride that spins you standing against a wall. I think they used to call it gravitron or something but disney makes it really cool with the simulation that you are going up - which makes it much more awesome.
If you get sick on the tilt whirl or the mad tea cups - you can expect to feel a little green on this one....but my husband took a nap in the American Adventure and he was all right - but he doesn't want to go again. But he is glad to have tried it anyway. Also, they keep telling you not to ride if you are afraid of enclosed spaces it is not that bad because you have something to look at that is 3 dimensional but I could see it if you have a "clinical" fear.

This is beginning to sound like one of those "once only and never again" kind of attractions.

Why can't you look to the side??? I have read that before in another post and just wondering why.

I just rode mission space yesterday. I line started around 3:45 or so, and they let us in around 4. Then there was about a 15 min delay before anyone started riding.

I didn't really feel dizzy. My eyes teared up tho. It was amazing. I think it is a very hard to explain ride. And instead of screaming all I could get out was grunts. I couldn't even remember what buttons I was supposed to switch.

I give it a big thumbs up and can't wait to go again. I also appreciated the kiddie playground. My daughter really like that!:p

BTW: Did anyone notice the old horizons sign in the waiting area? My sister found it right away.

The simulation apparently only works if your body is positioned properly. If you look to the side, the trip to Mars instantly changes to an experience resembling the inside of a washing machine during the spin cycle, resulting in a massive headache and possibly motion sickness.
