Possible spoiler alert below, so don't read if you haven't ridden it yet and want to be surprised...
I rode Mission Space the other day. If you go into it thinking it is a high speed mega thrill ride that is going to have steep drops and sudden side to side movements and lots of close calls, you will be disappointed. However, if you approach it as a space simulator, what it likely feels like during REAL space travel, it is awesome. This ride could only be in Epcot.
I am bringing this up, because my initial feelings after exiting the ride were that of a let down because it didn't have a lot of "close calls" and steep drops, and a major fall at the ending (ala Spiderman IOA when you fall off the skyscraper). I felt the ending was a bit anti climatic. Yes there was a close call with disaster at the end, but it just didn't feel wild enough.
But after re-evaluating the ride, I really like it because it is not supposed to have the cheesy stuff. It is supposed to feel like actual space travel. It doesn't jerk around as much as Body Wars or Star Tours, and I thought it would. But that's not what it would be like during an actual space mission. Epcot obviously wanted to keep it a simulator, not an arcade game.
I still rate it slightly lower than most on the board. I give it an A-, only because after 3 years of anticipation I was expecting the greatest ride in the world. It's close, but not #1. Right now, I rate it behind Spiderman at IOA and Indiana Jones at Disneyland CA. Still a must see though.
