Mission space...Green

I went for green (intense spinning makes me feel awful) and it was absolutely fine, in fact, quite tame, just a small space.

I loathe the green side. Never done orange because green made me feel like I was going to die. I don't get motion sickness easily and I'm not claustrophobic. It was the worst feeling ever.

I didn't think I was claustrophobic until I did that ride- and I wanted to be an astronaut growing up. It was not a good experience for me personally. Of course you know you and your child best but I felt sick the rest of the day after riding, will never do it again. It was almost a sense of panic because once you're secured in, there is no where else to look/move. I remember closing my eyes and just wishing it would be over. Hope it won't be the same for you!

This is why I will never ride it! I am terrified of feeling sick for the rest of the day. Not for me!

I feel ill on both sides. Orange is really bad, but Green doesn't feel comfortable to me either. I have to sit down for a bit afterward. I still do it if my son is traveling with us, since no one else in the family will do it with him.

If you can do Star Tours you can do Mission Space green. I avoided it for years because I was scared it would make me sick (the tea cups can do me in). I finally let DD coerce me on it when she was 6 or 7 and I absolutely loved it! I think it is fine for a 5 year old who wants to try it. I agree with the others that if you are claustrophobic it may not be for you. I have never felt too closed in by it except for on our last trip where they had some type of issue (not sure if it was technical difficulties or a guest issue) and we were stuck in the capsule for 10 to 15 minutes before the ride started- as it started getting toward the end of our wait I started to feel closed in. I think that is pretty unusual. We rode it another time a different trip where there was a guest issue and they released the harnesses and opened the capsules while they spent a few minutes sorting it out and then they shut everything again. That time it was one kid who flipped out and didn't want to ride with a brother who did want to ride and did not want to leave and a Dad trying to negotiate between the two and not hold everyone up--- poor Dad!
I get motion sick. I can do green with no problems. Can't do Star Tours.

I find this funny. I cannot do StarWars...I get all hot and sweaty from the motion, but both Orange and Green don't bother me at all.

The combination of claustrophobia & the fact I get car sick easily made this ride quite uncomfortable for me. I detest elevators and large crowds of people and cannot read at all in a car. Once I closed my eyes and breathed deeply I was fine though. My son was just fine on the ride.

I am just fine on Star Tours.

WOW.. lots of different reactions to this ride. No one in my family gets motion sick. I have an eye condition that prevents me from doing anything with extreme acceleration or g forces, otherwise I would be all about the Orange :0 I guess we will try it once and see. I actually think my DS will love it and my DH will do anything once.

The ride capsules are mounted on a centrifuge to simulate G forces. When the ride opened, there was only one version, but so many people became ill that they changed it to offer 2 versions.
The Orange version includes motions plus the spinning centrifuge, which spins at various speeds and at various times to simulate the G forces.
The Green version includes the same motions, but not the spinning. In order to reset the ride, the centrifuge needs to make one complete revolution during the course of the ride. The one revolution is not noticeable to most people at all, but that combined with the other motions, the closeness and the sounds may be why some people feel it's very theme and others get dick from even the Orange version.

The recommendations to avoid getting sick for both versions is the same - look straight ahead, don't turn your head and keep your eyes open. Motion sickness occurs because the motion your body feels doesn't match what you see. When the brain tries to interpret those conflicting 'messages' , the result can be illness.

Wow, I never knew Green Team made one rotation. I always wondered if the centrifuges worked or if they had been completely disabled (i.e. could they accidentally run the Orange Team program on the Green Team side?). I guess I have my answer because I just read that they are shifting capacity to use 3 of the 4 simulators for Orange Team leaving 1 for Green. I actually never noticed they had 4 simulators as it seems like they have only ever used 2 while I am there. I am sure this is being done in anticipation of Soarin' being down. It seems like Orange was only slightly more popular than Green, so I wonder how that will go.
