Missing Thai soccer boys and coach are found alive in cave, EVERYONE is out of the cave!

Thailand cave rescue: four boys taken to hospital; operation to resume later – live
What we know so far

  • Four of the boys have been rescued from the Tham Luang caves in Chiang Rai province, with nine people still trapped underground
  • All four boys safely reached a hospital in Chiang Rai, the nearest major city
  • The operation is scheduled to resume at around 8am local timewith officials and volunteers buoyed by the success of their chosen method insofar
  • The remaining eight boys and their coach remain underground at the original location near to Pattaya beach
  • When they reached the surface, the divers turned and hugged the boys, who wore full-face scuba masks, after completing the 3.2km journey through the muddy, jagged cave
  • Rain on Saturday evening and throughout Sunday was thought to be the catalyst for the rescue operation but appears not to have significantly slowed its progress
  • The operation proceeded much faster than expected due to the walkable water level in the cave after it was launched at 10am local time on Sunday
  • 13 foreign divers and five Thai navy Seals made up the rescue team and were among a team of 90 divers involved in the rescue effort overall

Ya know, the term 'hero' gets thrown around a lot these days, but really.....in this situation.....:)

No kidding. Even looking at the pictures of those narrow tunnels they have to get through makes me feel claustrophobic and panicky. The idea that anyone is willing to put themselves through that risk, trip after trip, is awe-inspiring. They must be physically and emotionally exhausted. Praying for every single person involved

The nightly news just keeps saying "boys" but not sure if that's accurate. How come the coach was in worse condition, anyone know?

I think your last sentence is correct. I'm finding nothing on either the NY Times site or any other that says that the coach came out with the initial group.

I kind of doubt it too. I think the coach would have INSISTED on remaining till last. Like the Captain of a ship being the last person off.

However, what we DO know is 3 ambulances drove to the hospital with 3 of them. A fourth person was air lifted by helicopter. The hospital is an out & a half drive by ambulance. They had the helicopter on stand-by in case one of the boys/coach needed to get to the hospital faster.

The helicopter was NOT used for the first two boys. ABC showed clear visual confirmation, in the form of video footage of the first two ambulances leaving pretty much together.

So the helicopter was used for either the third or fourth person who got out.

There was a two hour gap between when the first two boys made it out: 5:40 & 5:50 and when the second two made it out at: 7:40 & 7:50 Thai local time. This came out of the mouth of the Thai official during the press conference today. So that info is confirmed.

It may be that the coach became sicker as they moved the whole team closer and he needed to be placed ahead of the boys? :confused3

It could also be that one of the boys became sicker and needed to be moved immediately and that is why we keep hearing, "This rescue is going faster than expected."

It is doubtful that anyone knows if it was a code red as was rumored. The Thai authorities have cordoned off the whole area - the cave entrance & the helipad. The live streaming feed yesterday showed massive Thai police presence moving ALL media away from the areas and putting green tarp around so no one can see in or get PAST the tarps. There is literally NO WAY for a reporter to have gotten close enough to a rescue worker, during the rescue, to overhear or be told that the person in the helicopter was a code red. And I highly doubt that a rescue Seal would have taken the time to walk the quarter of a mile over to the edge of the cordoned area to talk to a reporter during the rescue operation. He would have gone back with the rest of the rescue workers to do the next step.

More than likely someone speculated that the helicopter would be needed in case of a code red, and someone incorrectly jumped on that saying it WAS a code red.

In any case, all 4 are in the hospital now doing well.

They indicated on CNN that the underwater portion of the boys' exit today was equal to the length of about 11 football fields.

I believe I read that the rescue went faster than expected because there were areas that were shallower than expected so they could actually walk.

Just reading that makes me feel exhausted and want to get on the helicopter to the hospital. :faint:

What is it, like 6:12am there now??? Hope they get started soon. I just want them out. I cannot imagine how those poor parents are doing.

I heard they need tote fresh oxygen takes in.

Yeah but they had to get or wait eight to ten hours to get the oxygen there. A long time to wait. But nothing compared to the two and a half weeks of waiting.

I can’t stop watching this unfold. Those poor parents. I can’t imagine what they’ve gone through. And those boys....I don’t think I’d ever get over being in the dark or water or enclosed spaces. And the divers who have kept at the rescue even after losing one of their own. What a horrible ordeal for everyone involved.
