Sorry if there is a board on this already.

I'm a sophmore in high school and this december I'm missing a week of school for Disney World.
I've never gone on vacation in high school during the school year, so If anyone has, could you please give me some tips?
Like, I know its different for every school, but how hard is it to make up all the work and stuff?
Also, should I just bring my text books and other school supplies with me and do the work on vacation?

Any tips would be mucho appreciated.

get your work 4-5 days before you go so you can get it done ( or get a good head start) so you wont have to being anything with you, im not saying this to be mean but, i dont think you will do your homeowork while your in disneyworld, ive said i would do it.. i never touched it, i was so tired when we came back to the room i would even look at it.. but hey thats me maybe you are more motivted than i am

Haha, no you're right, I probably wouldn't do my homework on vacation.

Do a lot of high school kids take vacations during the school year?
I kinda got the feeling that I shouldn't be missing a whole school week when I told my friends, so I'm a little worried that I wont be able to make up the work or something.

Oh, by the way, I love the icons in your signature, especially the DisneyLand sign one.

there probably jealous.. lol just kidding.. i depends on when you are going.. dont go before finals or after.. oh and thanks.. it took me forever to find these icons..

Hah, they probably are.

Well my Mid-Terms arn't until January, and I'm going the first week of December, so I dont think I need to worry about that.

I guess I could always do some of the homework in the 13 hour car ride. Hahahahew.

I've missed 12 days of school to years running. sure. That was in grade six and seven, but my brother missed the same amount as me. That was when he was in grade ten and eleven.
He didn't struggle at all the first time, in fact he got a good bit done before hand and caught up quickly when he came back. The second time he struggled a bit, but he got all of his history done before he left, which took off a big load.
You're going in December, so the homework load should be lighter as it's still kind of first part of the year, and it's kind of runing into the Christmas season. Teachers will be busy doing other things, instead of correcting homework.

Biggest tip I can give you is to ask your teachers for some work to do before you leave (like the week before) and get as much done when you have time. When you get back, just buckle down and get it done as quickly as possible. This past year I had a story I needed to write and then turn into book form for the day I got back. IT was due long before then, but what the heck. I was supposed to work on it in the plane, and when I had time, but I didn't. I came back, and the teacher was 'dissapointed' gave me a week to do it, and I had so much other work I did the entire thing in three hours the night before it was due. I just worked so hard on it, I had to write, correct, and turn it into a illustrated storybook. And guess what? I got an A.
Don't stress over it, Disney is supposed to be fun, take away from stress and homework. For me, it was a twice in a lifetime oppurtunity, and for some people that's how it is. School however, happens every day for about 200 days a year, for roughly 13 years.

Okay, so I'll just get any work I can from my teachers, and finish as much of it as I can before I leave.
In my school we have a rule where you have as many days as you were absent to make up the work (That might be the rule everywhere, I dont know.) so I'll have 5 days afterwards to finish it all, too.
I'm not in any AP or GT classes, so there isn't that much work, and it isn't that hard.

Its nice to know I'm not the only one who misses school for a week for a vacation.

Woo, I feel better.

Thanks :]

Wow, your a brave person to miss a whole week of school! When I miss even 1 day, it feels like I've been gone forever. Good luck making it all up! Oh, adn you also have to take mid-terms in January? YUCK!

Hahaha, do you get straight As?
You seem like someone who would get staight As.
Not that thats a bad thing.
Its a very good thing.

I, on the other hand, jump, no, leap at oppourtunities to miss school.
Don't get me wrong, I don't skip or anything.
But I do fake sick about 5 times a year.
...Thats not like skipping, right? Skipping sounds so.. bad. :|

It was sort of lame this year though because I was really sick, but I can't miss any days (Since I'll be going on vacation).

I really dont think it will be that much make up work though.
A week sounds like a lot, but I barely get anyhomework.
Usually only about 1 hour a night, max.

Next week I'm missed Tuesday through Friday to go to Disney. I'm feeling weird about it, and I'm sure I'll feel just as weird when I get back, but I'm asking for my work, and I'm sure I'll get it all done. I'm most worried about band, since there's no work in there to make up, but I know the routine fairly well, so I think I'll be good.

I'm sure you'll get it all done too :]
I hope you'll forget about your weird-feeling while in Disney, but after one ride in Small World it pretty hard to remember anything. (Kidding. Thats actually one of my favorite rides.)
I hope you have super fun.
You have to tell me all about your trip when you get back. I've never been in October. :]

I've been to go WDW for a week and missing school ever since 5th grade. It's really easy, and it's not that bad.

I'd get your parent(s) to write a note to your teachers or principal explaining your absence. And like others have said, go to your teachers a few days before you leave to let them know you'll be out and to see if you can get any of the work you'll miss. It's a downer to do school work on vacation, but it's so much easier than making it all up when you get back.

Also, maybe get a friend or two that are in your classes to write down some things you missed. My teachers sometimes add some extra work that they didn't give me, so I still have to make some stuff up, nothing too bad though. And make sure after your vacation, you go back to the teachers and give them the work ASAP and schedule time to make up tests and quizzes that you missed. This will show the teachers that you are responsible and that if in the future you'll be out for a week, they don't have to worry about you being a slacker and all.

Have fun!!!

I'm missing school this October for a trip. My friend Kathleen (she's going with us) and I are planning on getting our work, and working on it on a specific one or two nights while our mothers party away at The Food And Wine Festival in Epcot. Lucky me, I get to carry on about 3 lbs worth of textbooks!!!!

Woow, you miss a week every year?
You must be a pro at make-up work, hah.
What time of year do you usually go?
