Missing Persons

At the beginning of Carousel of Progress, mom is doing the wash and there is a little girl there with her turning the crank. In the rest of the show, this girl is absent. ??? Was she in the show at one point, did she run away from home or was this just a mistake on Disney's part?

I have seen the show several times, but I only noticed it last week.

I think I once read that the theory on this is that she was a neighborhood child who was paid to help with tasks like laundry. The CoP family is obviously upper-middle class and has the ability to afford all the great new luxury items from GE that make their lives easier with each scene. According to what I read it was common at the time for a family like that to hire help, and common for less well-to-do families to have young girls do that kind of work for a little extra for the family, like how the boys might have a paper route. Again, that was just a theory proposed by the article and I can't swear to the accuracy of any of it, but it seems plausible.

Some of my Irish-American ancestors worked jobs like that, as indentured servants/hired girls from the age of about 7, around that same time period.

She shows up later as a teenager, right? ....Then...probably "Biff" wisks her away to some posh big city, like Milwaukee or Pittsburgh, and they start a Carousel of Progress on their own. There's a great, big beautiful tomorrow.....

Hmm maybe she got a new job as one of the 999 ghosts at Haunted Mansion. The mansion is probably nicer than that farmhouse.

She did run away from home, and then resurfaced in the 80's as lead singer of a rock group with the same name as the title of this thread.
