I work shift work and I started my shift at 7:30pm tonight (it's the first of a set of 3 so it's our first day back). I have a friend at work who is always dependable and is on my shift, but did not show up for work tonight. A friend of his car pools with him and went to his house to pick him up but no one was home. The supervisor has tried his house and cell phone and could not get a hold of him. I called his cell phone and it's off. It is completely out of character for him to not show up to work. We think his family (wife and kids) may be at the beach this weekend so they might not know if something happened to him.

I tried searching online but can't find anything useful- I'm not using the right search words I guess.

Does anyone know if a hospital would tell me if he had been seen or admitted if I called and asked? I figured this might be against hippa laws. Or if I called a jail, would they be able to tell if he had been arrested?

I do feel sort of silly calling since I feel like a worried mother right now. Anyone have any advice? :guilty:

I can't answer your questions but please keep us updated
I will be praying your friend is ok

I would certaily try the jail or the local Police Department, they can then try the hosiptal on your behalf, as you say it is so out of character. Hoping for good news soon.

Well am I the only one that is thinking he may have skipped over to the beach and will use the old-oh my phone was dead thing?

Try not to panic and assume the best. When was the last you saw him?

It think he went to the beach with his family and forgot to call out "sick".

The hospitals will probably tell you if he is still there, but if he was and is no longer there, they probably will only be able to say "we have no one here by that name."

This happened once with someone - no, actually twice with people I worked with.

With the first one, the guy had forgotten about a ticket and ended up getting arrested for not taking care of it.

The second time the lady was a diabetic and was just cruising around South Texas unaware of her actions. The police found her in a Whataburger parking lot.

Hope everything turns out OK.

Does your work have any other emergency phone numbers for him? I know we have other numbers besides cell and home - someone to notify in case of emergency? Might be worth a call...

This happened once to my boss. He did not show up to work. Somebody got in contact with his brother. The brother went to his home and he was sleeping in his bed with his alarm clock going off for the past 12 hours. He had had a few small heart attacks and could not rise. The brother called 911 and he was treated at the hospital. He was ok.

I´m sorry you have to worry. Have you tried contacting the police? I don´t know, but maybe they could enter the house and see if he´s there?

Maybe he got his shift time wrong....I am hoping all is well. Keep us posted.

Probably won't help you at this point, but I believe you can call the police & ask them to do a "wellness check". They will go to the home, ring bell, look in windows to see if anything "wrong" like break-in or someone lying on the floor. I'm not sure what else they will do. If his car is there, I'm not sure if they can enter the house to see if he's injured or ill. But they most likely have ways of finding family if they need to.

I would be worried too. I would hope someone would be concerned if I did not show at work. You sound very caring. Keep us updated.

While it could be he simply forgot, if this is really out of character for him I would call the police. The only times (twice in my life) I've encountered this situation, the person has needed help.

Hopefully he'll call or turn up soon!

Did you say if his car is parked at his house? Any updates? Please let us know.

The OP hasn't been back since 3:45 this morning...I wonder what ended up happening?:guilty:
