Well, last year was our familys 1st trip to WDW in Orlando. We LOVED it and had a magical time. I didn't think anything could top it, until..................June 13th on arrival to our Disneyland vacation in California. We just returned on the 20th and BOY, do I miss it already :( I really prefer as does my family, Disneyland over WDW. We have special memories from WDW and all, it being our 1st Disney family trip but.........there was just something VERY "MAGICAL" about Disneyland and California:wizard: We stayed at the Grand Californian and adored it. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. Our room was on the 3rd floor and out on our balcony you could see the monorail go right by and you could also watch fireworks from our balcony too. You could see parts of Downtown Disney as well. The pools were great. Our room was comfy. The staff superb. All of our character and other meals were awesome, even the ones in the parks. The private entrance to California Adventure was great! I loved the fact that everything was compact and you walked from your room into Downtown Disney and then looked to your left for Disneyland and to the right for California Adventure. You just can't beat that. I LOVED the castle. Loved the pink! We are already looking forward to a return trip in 2010. We took one day and drove the coast to San Diego. California is just BEAUTIFUL:cloud9: The Pacific Ocean was mesmerizing:cloud9: What can I say other than it was just MAGICAL. We were there when Kobe Bryant rode on the float with Mickey down Mainstreet and were right on the curb watching him go by. I think something about truly walking where Walt himself walked was just a dream come true. Just wanted to talk about our trip and how much we miss it :( Anyone else having the blues after returning from their trip? I've already talked of the things we missed and will have to catch in 2010.:rolleyes1

We call that the DL blues or DL withdrawls. We probably wont return to DL for 3 or 4 years. To me, thats tough when we used to go every year since I was born. Then not making it for a couple of years-thats hard for me!

We got back on the 20th also, and I am ready to go back! We were actually on our way to ride Splash Mountain when we saw Kobe coming down the street. Dh and I are not Laker fans, so we kind of rolled our eyes and walked the other way. All of these people were rushing toward him (even a CM!) and we were running in the other direction! :lmao:

Even though it was more crowded than what we're used to, we still had a great time. Then again, I've never NOT had a great time!!

It is hard to be on the DIS - and yet strangely cathartic - when you are suffering the Disney withdrawals. On the one hand, you can relive your trip in every way possible by sharing photos on different threads and doing Trip Reports and just posting that you miss it and want to go back, and everyone will appreciate it. You can also live vicariously through others who are just about to leave for their DLR trips and enjoy their photos when they return, just as if you had been on the trips with them!:lmao: At the same time, it can be very sad and difficult to be on the DIS - especially if you know you cannot get back to DLR for a long time, or if you have to cancel a plan or something. But since you have something in 2010 on the horizon, you can start all over again in discussing your plans and finding out ways to make the trip even better than this last one - if that's possible!

FairyDust2008, what you describe of your trip sounds like it was really the full, overall fantastic DLR experience, where the hotel played a part in the magic as well (that is exactly why I love to stay onsite - to take advantage of the perks and stay in the magic the entire trip, from beginning to end). Whenever I hear of people getting back from DLR and not enjoying it or grumbling because "WDW is so much better than DLR," I get sad because your kind of trip is the experience that everyone is supposed to have!

So my only question for you is.....WHEN we will see an official Trip Report from you? When will we see some great character meal pictures in the character meal thread? My next DLR trip is going to be a one-day quickie, so I want to live vicariously through your experience until I can get back there for a few days!!

(Oh, and yes, driving the coast to San Diego is gorgeous! You should try driving the coast up to Monterey or Big Sur sometime - breathtaking! And make sure to visit Catalina Island - my other favorite part of SoCal besides DLR! It is enchanting!)

I will be posting as soon as I can get them uploaded which will probably be this weekend. We are still unpacking and recovering/going through withdrawl from our Disneyland visit. We LOVED it sooooooooooooooooooo much and our family definitely preferred DISNEYLAND over WDW and that is why we have chosen it for our return trip in 2010:lovestruc:lovestruc

Welcome back!! I'm glad you liked DL so much and hope you can come back soon!!! :)
