Missing DIS'ers AND 'previously' or 'periodically' missing DIS'ers...

This thread is not the typical, 'Missing DIS'er, I wonder where so-and-so is' thread that we see every so often here on the DIS/CB, but rather more a question (hopefully we'll get a few replies/answers) directed to those who might consider themselves to have been a 'previously' missing DIS'er, or, one who periodically 'goes missing'.

The question is....'What brought (or repeatedly brings) you back to the DIS?' A person leaves, then returns. Often, 'the leaving' is in either disgust, aggravation, disappointment, a huff or whatever. But many return. I have in the past. Maybe we can help others return to the 'family' here on the DIS. :happy1:

Any takers on that heavy thought, LOL??? :teeth:

Dan :grouphug:

I think that when you're planning a trip, you tend to be here a lot. I know that after my last trip,i was only on the CB and really not posting on other boards.

When I am away I am missing fromthe DIS, but other than that, I am pretty much here. There are times when I go missing from a board for a while, if the "tone" of the posts is annoying or disheartening...all the boards seem to go through a few days' stretch where that happens.

Other than that though, you people vcan't seem to get rid of me!!!;)

I was previously missing but not by choice. I was computerless for several months and suffered severe withdrawals! Other than that I sometimes go missing do to things such as medical treatments or other personal things. The reason I always come back is simple - the warm welcome I always get from my DIS friends and how as soon as I come back (especially since I was gone about 8 months last time).

Me? I came to the DIS via the travel info side of the website. I was in shock and awe of what I had been missing out on all these years.

We were planning our 13th trip by the time I found the DIS. I started out on the parks, restaurant and resort boards. Had a lot of fun getting and giving advice, and sometimes laughing at what others had to say.

I started noticing the funny "tags" some people had. I was directed to come over the Community board to ask for one. (Something that is now very discouraged.)<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_13_6.gif' border=0></a>

I love the CB!<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/11/11_1_206.gif' border=0></a> I never miss a day, unless I'm out of town, which isn't often.

So, if I'm gone, I'll be right back! You won't be putting my name on any MIA list.:teeth:

I have only disappeared twice.....once, when a change in servers on the DIS end of things made it impossible for me to be able to post (I had webtv at the time). I would be able to read but not reply. You know how nuts that can drive a person!!??

Second time, I did the unthinkable and got banned. I debated to awhile about coming back. The place was a bit hostile at the time. :( A dear friend convinced me to come back and try it again.:p I'm so happy that I did!! Things are back to normal and I like hanging out with my "friends"!! :bounce:

Not sure the answer to your question Dan.
But I know the reason my husband mmexpress no longer reads the boards... he is to fickle LOL. He found the DIS after our 1st trip and he would ask a few questions and check in once in a while to see if there was anything new befor going back, but since we have been going to Disney for awhile now he just doesn't bother anymore. Also I don't think he was ever on the CB, but now that I'm a member I tell him everything anyway. LOL :teeth:

This is a good question Dan. I remember some of the people that were kind of unique, and quirky. I liked them. I'm not talking about the people that think an argument about "toilet etiquette" is interesting.;)

What ever happenned to RAN, Moof, etc....?:D

Some of the arguments get really repetitive and boring. Some of the people that claim not be involved are the biggest participants.

I'll admit that I like a good, controversial subject. I like to argue, it keeps me coming back here.:D

I actually registered over a year or so back, lurked reading the information, but was uncomfortable with some of the banter I was reading.

I then started planning another trip, and came back to lurk again and the tone had changed and I was able to feel a part of the action so to speak more easily. I now love chatting and providing planning assistance since I think I have soaked every piece of information I can from the boards about WDW.

I probably will not leave again after my trip as I love the outside WDW talk. I like the way I can personalize my on-line persona as opposed to other boards. I like that people have an opportunity to get to know me beyond planning a WDW trip.

I'm about to be MIA with a move coming up. I'm dreading them packing up my computer TOMORROW. :earseek: I will have my laptop at my side! And if necessary, I will be stopping at libraries on my drive to my destination!

I try to check in each day and read a few posts, maybe reply or start a thread. I lead very busy days and most of the time when I get home I've got so much paperwork I don't have a lot of time to DIS. I do try to spend some time with the family each night!
We usaully eat dinner together then meet up again to watch American Idol, or Survivor. It seems like the only time I have a lot of time to DIS is when I'm recovering from something or another.
I've been checking in since Feb/or March of '98:D

I go missing from time to time. Not because of anything or anyone on the boards (I never notice the meanness, I guess I'm oblivious) - it's just because I need a computer break. I'll get involved in a good book or just "other things". Eventually, I get the itch to get back to the DIS and I come back. (Kind of like WDW, you all know that feeling;) ).

I have stopped posting on the DIS a few times. The longest was when the demands of my job were eating all my free time, leaving no time for DISing. A couple of other times I left briefly because of some decisions made in the administration of the board that I disagreed with. In those cases, I eventually decided that I was taking things way too seriously and started posting again.

On one occasion I started looking around for another board to call home. I found someplaces I liked alright, but none of the offered the combination of people and topics that I find here.

I went AWOL from the DIS due to a computer crash, but now i'm back up on my feet and running (for now at least)

I'm sure I'll get flamed for this one, and the mods can delete my post if they need to....

But I always wonder how EROS is. Yes he ruffled a lot of feathers on these boards, and I know you Dan were not fond of him at all. But when you needed information on topics he knew about, he was very kind and very helpful to you. Maybe I was one of the few he "touched" via PM, but when I needed information on a topic, he came through for me and I'll always be thankful for that.

So even if you're a lurker out there EROS...just wanted to say :wave2:

Hi DAN and all my old CB friends.

I dropped out of site a few years ago because of job demands. I used to DIS quite a bit at work but found it way too addicting. There were days that I would spend all day on the DIS and do no work at all!
I switched jobs and all day DISing was no longer an option.

I still pop in from time to time, mostly when we're planning trips. This is still without a doubt the best resource. I lurk on the CB occasionally, to see what everyone is up to. I try not to post too much, only because I so easily become addicted!!!

Hope everyone is doing well! Miss you all!

I just wanted to say, Good luck on your move!:D

I remember you talking about it! I bet your going to love it there!

Take care
:sunny: :D

I stopped posting but still lurked alot. I still posted on the W.I.S.H. boards. I really stopped on the CB because I didn't like a lot of the garbage that was going on. I don't like contoversy. I came back because I saw a thread on American Idol and John (towncrier) breaking his ankle...that is what brought me back to the CB. I'll stick around for a bit to test the waters...but I definately won't post as much as I use to.

Hi Dan. Neat question.

When I go "missing," I'm actually not. Usually I'm still lurking but it's only on the cruise board (note countdown clock! Almost double digits!!!)

When I do stop posting for a time, it's probably because there's a bunch of garbage going on and I don't trust myself to be very "Christian like." I take some time, breathe, pray and hope that I can behave.

Usually someone needing a hug or something will bring me back. Or sometimes I have an answer on the cruise board.

And sometimes I come back because I just can't keep my mouth shut! :teeth:

LOL! Yup, that always brings me out of the woodwork too. :p
